What are the prerequisites for configuring an ETC NETGEAR WAX610 that has been reset to factory defaults?
To configure the ETC NETGEAR WAX610, you must connect it to a computer with a network interface card (NIC) that can switch between IP addresses in the following ranges:
• One IP address in the range 192.168.0.X, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
• Another IP address in the range 10.101.X.X, with a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0
You also need a configuration TAR archive (tarball) file. The configuration file has the standard ETC configuration that is required for your WAP model with a compatible IP address.
What should I do if my ETC NETGEAR WAX610 system contains multiple WAPs?
Every device in a system must have a unique IP address. If your system contains multiple WAPs, separate configuration files for each WAP will be required.
What are the ETC-modified configuration settings for the ETC NETGEAR WAX610?
The following settings are modified from the NETGEAR factory defaults in a standard ETC WAP configuration:
| Configuration Property | Modified Property Value |
|---|---|
| Username | admin |
| Password | Etc4116! |
| Management IP address | 10.101.1.21 – 10.101.1.50 |
| Management subnet mask | 255.255.0.0 |
| Spanning Tree Protocol | Disabled |
| IGMP Snooping | Disabled |
| DHCP Client | Disabled |
| QoS Settings | Disabled |
How do I configure my ETC NETGEAR WAX610 for an ETC lighting network?
Note: Access points that were preconfigured by ETC have a small IP address label on the unit. If your WAP does not have an IP address label or if you need to use a different IP address, label the WAP with the IP address of the configuration file you plan to use.
1. Connect your computer to any numbered port on a network switch with a network cable, then connect the WAP to a Power Over Ethernet (PoE) port on that switch with another network cable. The WAP takes a few minutes to fully boot.
2. If necessary, label the WAP with the IP address in the configuration file while you wait for it to boot.
3. Open an internet browser and navigate to the IP address of the WAP.
• If there is no DHCP server on the network, the default WAP IP address is 192.168.0.100. Change your computer NIC to IP address scheme 192.168.0.X.
• If there is a DHCP server on the network, you will need to discover what IP address was served. Change your computer NIC to an IP address in that scheme.
4. Open an internet browser and navigate to the IP address of the WAP.
5. From the login page, enter Username: admin and Password: password, then select Login.
6. Day Zero Easy Setup occurs the first time you log in. Select Management Mode of [Web-browser (Local)] and new setup options appear.
7. The options provided are sufficient to load a configuration file and may be overwritten, but you should perform the following modifications before you continue:
• Enter and confirm Etc4116! as the new password.
• For SSID, enter ETCLighting.
• For Passphrase, enter etc4116!
8. Select Apply to save your settings and return to the login page.
9. Log in with the new username (admin) and password (Etc4116!).
10. Once you are logged in, select the Management tab, then navigate to Maintenance > Upgrade > Backup and Restore on the side menu.
11. Select the Restore Settings tab, then select Browse File. Navigate to and select the configuration TAR file that you received from ETC Technical Services, then select Restore.
12. A password prompt will appear for restoring the configuration. The password to restore ETC standard configuration is Restore4. Enter this and select Continue.
13. A “Restore complete. Rebooting AP…” message should appear and the WAP reboots with the new configuration settings.
14. Close the browser.
How can I test the configuration of my ETC NETGEAR WAX610?
Perform the following steps to test your configured WAP:
1. Set the computer NIC to IP address scheme 10.101.X.X.
2. Open an internet browser and navigate to the WAP IP address as identified on the label.
3. Connect another wireless device via WiFi to verify the WPA passphrase.
• Wireless Network: ETCLighting
• Password: etc4116!
• IP Address: A unique static address in the subnet scheme 10.101.X.X
• Network Prefix: 16 OR Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
– Network Prefix of 16 and Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0 indicate the same thing, but only one or the other is requested depending on the device you are using.
4. Verify that the new wireless device can see other devices on the wired network. Use PING or HTTP through the WAP.
