To ensure the long life of your NEC NP-V332X projector and to prevent fire and shock, please read the following safety instructions carefully:

Installation:

• Do not place the projector on an unstable cart, stand, or table.

• Do not place the projector near water, in direct sunlight, near heaters, or in a dusty, smoky, or steamy environment.

• For ceiling installation, it must be installed by qualified technicians. The ceiling must be strong enough to support the projector, and the installation must be in accordance with local building codes.

• Do not use any object other than the lens cover to cover the lens while the projector is on, as this can cause a fire hazard.

• Do not place objects easily affected by heat in front of the projector lens.

Fire and Shock Precautions:

• Ensure there is sufficient ventilation. Allow at least 4 inches (10cm) of space between the projector and a wall.

• Do not touch the exhaust vent as it can become very hot.

• Prevent foreign objects like paper clips from falling into the projector.

• Do not place any objects on top of the projector.

• The projector is designed for a 100-240V AC 50/60 Hz power supply.

• Do not look into the lens while the projector is on to avoid serious eye damage.

• Keep items like magnifying glasses out of the light path of the projector.

• Handle the power cord carefully. Do not use a damaged or frayed power cord.

Positioning:

• The tilt angle of the projector should not exceed 5 degrees. The projector should only be installed in a desktop or ceiling mount position to avoid decreasing lamp life.

• Handle the remote control carefully.

• If the remote control gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.

• Avoid excessive heat and humidity.

• Do not short, heat, or take apart batteries.

• Do not throw batteries into fire.

• If you will not be using the remote control for a long time, remove the batteries.

• Ensure that you have the batteries’ polarity (+/–) aligned correctly.

• Do not use new and old batteries together, or use different types of batteries together.

• Dispose of used batteries according to your local regulations.

Lamp Replacement:

• Use the specified lamp for safety and performance.

• Be sure to replace the lamp when the message [THE LAMP LIFE EXCEEDED] appears. Continuing to use the lamp beyond its usable life may cause the bulb to shatter.

A Lamp Characteristic:

The projector has a discharge lamp whose brightness gradually decreases with age. Repeatedly turning the lamp on and off can also decrease its brightness. The actual lamp life may vary depending on the individual lamp, environmental conditions, and usage.

CAUTION:

• DO NOT TOUCH THE LAMP immediately after it has been used. It will be extremely hot. Turn the projector off, disconnect the power cord, and allow at least one hour for the lamp to cool before handling.

• When removing the lamp from a ceiling-mounted projector, ensure no one is under the projector, as glass fragments could fall if the lamp has burned out.

• Before viewing, be sure to read health care precautions that may be found in the user’s manual included with your LCD shutter eyeglasses or your 3D compatible content.

• Do not use LCD shutter eyeglasses for viewing any material other than 3D images.

• Allow a distance of 2 m/7 feet or greater between the screen and a user.

• Avoid viewing 3D images for a prolonged period. Take a break of 15 minutes or longer after every hour of viewing.

• If you or any member of your family has a history of light-sensitive seizures, consult a doctor before viewing 3D images.

• While viewing 3D images, if you experience symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, headache, eyestrain, blurry vision, convulsions, or numbness, stop viewing immediately. If symptoms persist, consult a doctor.

• Set [FAN MODE] to [HIGH ALTITUDE] when using the projector at altitudes approximately 2500 feet/760 meters or higher.

• Using the projector at these altitudes without setting High Altitude mode can cause the projector to overheat and shut down.

• Using the projector at altitudes less than 2500 feet/760 meters with High Altitude mode enabled can cause the lamp to overcool, resulting in a flickering image. In this case, switch [FAN MODE] to [AUTO].

• Using the projector at high altitudes can shorten the life of optical components such as the lamp.

• The projector will detect the life of the lamp. Be sure to change the lamp when it shows warning messages.

• Reset the “CLEAR LAMP HOURS” function from the on-screen display after replacing the lamp module.

• When switching the projector off, please ensure the cooling cycle has been completed before disconnecting power.

• Turn on the projector first and then the signal sources.

• When the lamp reaches the end of its life, it may burn out with a loud popping sound. The projector will not turn back on until the lamp module is replaced.

Do:

• Turn off the product before cleaning.

• Use a soft cloth moistened with mild detergent to clean the display housing.

• Disconnect the power plug if the product is not being used for a long period of time.

• If the lens is soiled, use a commercially available cleaning cloth for lens.

Do not:

• Use abrasive cleaners, waxes or solvents to clean the unit.

• Use under the following conditions: extremely hot, cold or humid; in areas with excessive dust and dirt; in direct sunlight; outdoors.

• Move the projector by holding the cable cover.

• Apply excessively strong pressure against the lens.

• Keep fingerprints off the lens surface.

• Install and store in powerful magnetic fields or in a corrosive gas environment.

The NEC NP-V332X has the following ports:

The Quick Keys can be accessed on the Control Panel or remote control when no On-Screen Display (OSD) is shown. Their behavior is as follows:

1. Press firmly and slide the battery cover off.

2. Install two new AAA batteries. Ensure that you have the batteries’ polarity (+/–) aligned correctly.

3. Slip the cover back over the batteries until it snaps into place. Do not mix different types of batteries or new and old batteries.

The infrared signal operates by line-of-sight up to a distance of about 22 feet/7 m and within a 60-degree angle of the remote sensor on the projector cabinet.

To view 3D images, you need commercially available LCD shutter eyeglasses that are DLP® Link compatible and support a vertical refresh rate up to 144 Hz.

Follow these steps:

1. Connect the projector to your video equipment.

2. Turn on the projector and display the on-screen menu.

3. Select [3D SETTINGS] from the [SCREEN] tab and then select [ON] for [3D].

4. Set [3D INVERT] and [3D STRUCTURE] as necessary.

5. Play your 3D compatible content and use the projector to display the image.

6. Put on your LCD shutter eyeglasses to view the 3D images.

1. Securely connect the power cord and signal cable. The POWER/STANDBY LED will turn Red or Orange.

2. Turn on the projector by pressing the “POWER” button on the remote control or the power button on the control panel. The POWER/STANDBY LED will turn Green.

3. The startup screen will display in approximately 10 seconds. The first time you use the projector, you will be asked to select the preferred language.

4. Turn on your source (computer, notebook, video player, etc.). The projector will detect your source automatically.

If you connect multiple sources at the same time, press the “SOURCE” button on the control panel or remote control to switch between inputs.

1. Press the “POWER OFF” button on the remote control or the power button on the control panel. A confirmation message “POWER OFF ARE YOU SURE” will appear on the screen.

2. Press the “POWER OFF” button again to confirm.

3. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet and the projector. If you disconnect and reconnect the power cord while viewing an image, wait at least one second before reconnecting.

• “STATUS” LED flashes red: Indicates the projector has overheated and will automatically shut down. The on-screen message will be “WARNING! TEMPERATURE TOO HIGH”. Ensure air vents are not blocked and the environment temperature is below 40°C.

• “LAMP” LED turns red: Indicates the lamp is approaching its end of life. The on-screen message will be “WARNING! LAMP LAMP LIFE IS ABOVE LIMIT TIME. LAMP OFF!” or “LAMP LIFE EXCEEDED.” Change the lamp as soon as possible.

• “STATUS” LED flashes red and “WARNING! FAN LOCKED” message: Indicates a fan has failed. Stop using the projector, disconnect the power cord, and contact your dealer.

The projector is equipped with tilt feet for adjusting the image height.

1. Press and hold the tilt foot release button to raise or lower the front of the projector. Release the button to lock it in place.

2. Rotate the rear feet counter-clockwise to raise the projector or clockwise to lower it.

• To focus the image: Rotate the focus ring until the image is clear.

• To zoom the image: Turn the zoom lever in or out to adjust the image size.

1. To open the OSD, press the MENU button on the Remote Control.

2. When OSD is displayed, use the left/right arrow buttons to select a main menu item (IMAGE, SCREEN, SETTING, OPTIONS). Press the down arrow button to enter the submenu.

3. Use the up/down arrow buttons to select the desired item in the submenu and adjust the settings using the left/right arrow buttons.

4. To enter another submenu, select the item and press ENTER. Press MENU to close the submenu after adjustment.

5. After adjusting settings, press the MENU or EXIT button to go back to the main menu.

6. To exit, press the MENU button again. The OSD will close and the projector will automatically save the new settings. The OSD will also close automatically if no button is pressed for 30 seconds.

PICTURE MODE

In the OSD menu, go to IMAGE > GENERAL > PICTURE MODE. There are several factory presets optimized for various types of images:

• PRESENTATION: For computer or notebook.

• HIGH-BRIGHT: Maximum brightness from PC input.

• VIDEO: Recommended for typical TV program viewing.

• MOVIE: For home theater.

• sRGB: Standardized accurate color.

• BLACKBOARD: Achieves optimum color settings when projecting onto a blackboard (green).

• USER1/USER2: Memorize user’s custom settings.

WALL COLOR

In the OSD menu, go to IMAGE > GENERAL > WALL COLOR. This function compensates for the color deviation when projecting onto a colored wall. You can choose from OFF, RED, GREEN, BLUE, CYAN, MAGENTA, or YELLOW.

You can adjust these settings in the OSD menu under IMAGE > GENERAL.

• BRIGHTNESS: Adjusts the overall lightness and darkness of the image. Use the left arrow to darken and the right arrow to lighten the image.

• CONTRAST: Controls the degree of difference between the lightest and darkest parts of the picture. Use the left arrow to decrease and the right arrow to increase the contrast.

• SHARPNESS: Adjusts the clarity of the image. Use the left arrow to decrease and the right arrow to increase the sharpness.

• SATURATION: (Video sources only) Adjusts the image from black and white to fully saturated color.

• HUE: (Video sources only) Adjusts the color balance of red and green.

Navigate to IMAGE > ADVANCED in the OSD menu to access these settings:

• GAMMA: Allows you to choose a gamma table fine-tuned for the input source. Options include FILM, VIDEO, GRAPHICS, PC, and BLACKBOARD.

• BrilliantColor™: Utilizes a new color-processing algorithm to enable higher brightness and more vibrant colors. The range is from “0” (more natural) to “10” (stronger enhancement).

• COLOR TEMP.: Adjusts the color temperature. Options are LOW, MEDIUM, HIGH. At higher temperatures, the screen looks colder; at lower temperatures, the screen looks warmer.

• DYNAMIC CONTRAST: Turning this on allows the contrast ratio to be adjusted to the proper level automatically.

• COLOR: Provides individual adjustments for RED, GREEN, BLUE, CYAN, MAGENTA, and YELLOW GAIN and BIAS.

• COLOR SPACE: Selects the color matrix type from AUTO, RGB, or YUV.

Navigate to SCREEN > GENERAL in the OSD menu.

ASPECT RATIO

This function lets you choose the desired display format:

• 4:3: For 4:3 input sources.

• 16:9: For 16:9 sources like HDTV and widescreen DVD.

• 16:10: For 16:10 sources like widescreen laptops.

• 15:9: For 15:9 input sources.

• 5:4: For 5:4 input sources.

• NATIVE: Displays the original image without any scaling.

• AUTO: Automatically selects the appropriate display format.

KEYSTONE

This corrects image distortion caused by tilting the projector. You can adjust H KEYSTONE (horizontal) and V KEYSTONE (vertical) to make the image rectangular. If the image looks trapezoidal, this option will correct it.

In the OSD menu, navigate to SCREEN > 3D SETTINGS.

• 3D: Choose “ON” to enable 3D image display (default is OFF).

• 3D INVERT: (Only available when 3D is ON) Choose “ON” to invert the left and right frame contents.

• 3D STRUCTURE: (Only available when 3D is ON) Adjust the 3D format to display 3D content correctly. Options include AUTO, FRAME PACKING, TOP-AND-BOTTOM, SIDE-BY-SIDE, and FRAME SEQUENTIAL.

Go to the OSD menu and select SETTING > GENERAL > ORIENTATION.

• DESKTOP FRONT: The default setting for standard projection from a table in front of the screen.

• DESKTOP REAR: The image will appear reversed for projecting from behind a translucent screen.

• CEILING FRONT: The image will turn upside down for a ceiling-mounted projector in front of the screen.

• CEILING REAR: The image will appear reversed and upside down for a ceiling-mounted projector behind a translucent screen.

1. Navigate to SETTING > ADVANCED > SECURITY in the OSD menu and press ENTER.

2. Set SECURITY to ON.

3. Go to CHANGE PASSWORD. You will be prompted to enter the current password. The default password the first time is UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT.

4. Enter your old password. Then, you will be prompted to enter a new password.

5. Use the direction keys on the remote control to enter your new password, which must be 4 to 10 characters long. Press ENTER.

6. Confirm the new password by entering it again and pressing ENTER.

If the incorrect password is entered 3 times, the projector will automatically shut down.

Navigate to OPTIONS > ADVANCED in the OSD menu.

• AUTO POWER OFF (MIN): This sets a countdown timer that starts when no signal is being sent to the projector. The projector will automatically power off when the countdown has finished. You can set the timer from 0 to 180 minutes. The factory default is 60 minutes.

• OFF TIMER (MIN): This sets a countdown timer that will power off the projector after a set duration, regardless of whether a signal is present. You can set this timer from 0 to 995 minutes.

• STANDBY MODE: Choose between NORMAL and NETWORK STANDBY. Network Standby allows for network control while in standby but uses slightly more power.

• DIRECT POWER ON: When set to ON, the projector will automatically power on when AC power is supplied, without needing to press the power button.

Navigate to OPTIONS > LAMP SETTINGS in the OSD menu.

• LAMP LIFE REMAINING: Shows the remaining lamp life hours.

• LAMP HOURS USED: Displays the total projection time of the current lamp.

• ECO MODE: Choose “ECO” to dim the projector lamp, which lowers power consumption and extends lamp life. Choose “OFF” to return to normal mode.

• LAMP LIFE REMINDER: Turn ON to show a warning message when the lamp is nearing the end of its life.

• CLEAR LAMP HOURS: After replacing the lamp, use this function to reset the lamp hour counter to zero.

• Ensure all cables and power connections are correctly and securely connected.

• Ensure the pins of connectors are not crooked or broken.

• Check if the projection lamp has been securely installed.

• Make sure the projector is switched on.

• Ensure that the “AV-MUTE” feature is not turned on.

• Press “AUTO ADJ.” on the remote control.

• If you are using a PC, check the display resolution settings on your computer. Verify the resolution setting is compatible with the projector.

• For Windows 7: From the “Start” menu, open “Control Panel”. From the drop-down menu select “Display”, then click “Adjust resolution”.

• If you experience difficulty changing resolutions or your monitor freezes, restart all equipment including the projector.

• Adjust the “PHASE” to correct it. Refer to the “SETTING” section in the OSD for more information.

• If you notice a vertical flickering bar, use the “CLOCK” setting to make an adjustment.

• Change the monitor color setting from your computer.

• Check and reconfigure the display mode of your graphic card to make it compatible with the product.

• Adjust the Focus Lever on the projector lens.

• Make sure the projection screen is between the required distance from the projector.

Select “SETTING | GENERAL > ORIENTATION” from the OSD and adjust the projection direction to match your setup (e.g., Desktop Front, Ceiling Front).

When the lamp reaches its end of life, it will burn out and may make a loud popping sound. If this happens, the projector will not turn on until the lamp module has been replaced. To replace the lamp, follow the procedures in the “Replacing the Lamp” section.

POWER LED Indicator

Warning: To avoid burns, allow the projector to cool for at least 60 minutes before you replace the lamp.

1. Switch off the power to the projector by pressing the POWER OFF button.

2. Allow the projector to cool down for at least 60 minutes.

3. Disconnect the power cord.

4. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw on the lamp cover.

5. Slide and remove the cover.

6. Loosen the screw on the lamp module.

7. Lift the handle.

8. Pinch the arrow marked positions on the connector housing and pull the housing upward to remove the connector.

9. Pull out the lamp module.

10. Install the new lamp module by reversing the previous steps. Ensure screws are tightened.

11. After replacing the lamp, turn on the power, and select the [MENU] button -> OPTIONS | LAMP SETTINGS -> CLEAR LAMP HOURS to reset the lamp usage hours.

If the projection lens is dusty or blemished, follow this procedure:

1. Turn off the projector and let it cool down for a while.

2. Unplug the power cord from the outlet.

3. Blow dust off the lens using a camera blower. Then, wipe the lens gently using a cleaning cloth.

CAUTION:

• Always wipe the lens with a cleaning cloth.

• Do not wipe the lens hard, as this may cause serious damage.

• Do not use liquid cleaners or chemicals on the cloth.

• Do not use a spray containing flammable gas to remove dust from the lens, as it may cause a fire.

1. To prevent damage, use the recommended ceiling mount kit for installation.

2. If you buy a ceiling mount from another company, ensure you use the correct size screw. The screw size varies depending on the thickness of the mounting plate.

• Screw type: M4

• Maximum screw length: 8mm

• Minimum screw length: 6mm

Warning:

1. Be sure to keep at least 10 cm of gap between the ceiling and the bottom of the projector.

2. Avoid installing the projector near a heat source.

You can control the NEC NP-V332X using a computer with a serial connection to the PC CONTROL port (D-SUB 9P).
