If you smell gas, follow these safety steps immediately:

Step 1. DO NOT try to light any appliance.

Step 2. DO NOT touch any electrical switch or use any phone in your building.

Step 3. Leave the building immediately.

Step 4. Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor’s phone. Follow the gas supplier’s instructions.

Step 5. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire department.

The BTU specifications for the MONESSEN AVFL48PIF models (0-2000 FT) are as follows:

Maintain a clear space of at least 3 feet in front of the MONESSEN AVFL48PIF appliance. Do not place combustible objects in front of the appliance as high temperatures may start a fire. Avoid placing candles, electronics, and other heat-sensitive objects on the mantel or hearth as heat may damage these objects.

Before operating the appliance for the first time, a qualified service technician must:

1. Verify all shipping materials have been removed from inside and/or underneath the firebox.

2. Review proper placement of crushed glass media.

3. Ensure that there are no gas leaks.

4. Ensure that the air deflection glass is seated in the proper position.

The MONESSEN AVFL48PIF is equipped with an intermittent pilot ignition (IPI) device which automatically lights the burner. Follow these steps:

Step 1. Smell all around the appliance area for gas, including near the floor.

Step 2. Wait five minutes to clear out any gas. If you smell gas, stop and follow the emergency safety procedures. If you do not smell gas, proceed to the next step.

Step 3. To light the burner, turn the wall switch to ON, press the ON or FLAME button on the remote control, or set the thermostat to the desired temperature.

Step 4. If the appliance does not light after three tries, call your service technician or gas supplier.

Note: DO NOT try to light the burner by hand.

To shut down the appliance:

1. If equipped with a wall switch, turn the ON/OFF switch to OFF.

2. If using a remote or wall control, press the OFF button.

3. If using a thermostat, set the temperature to the lowest setting.

4. A service technician should turn off the electric power to the control when performing service.

During the first use of the MONESSEN AVFL48PIF:

1. The appliance should run three to four hours continuously on high.

2. Turn the appliance off and allow it to completely cool.

3. This process cures the materials used to manufacture the appliance. Open windows for air circulation during this break-in period as some smoke and odors may occur and smoke detectors may activate.

The MONESSEN AVFL48PIF includes a battery backup system located in the control cavity. To operate using battery power:

Step 1. Access the control cavity. Ensure the unit is off and cool. Lift the barrier screen, remove any logs/stones, crushed glass, and the deflection glass panel.

Step 2. Remove the two screws securing the burner assembly, lift it, and use the provided engine supports to prop it up.

Step 3. Locate the battery tray and insert four AA cell batteries, ensuring correct polarity.

Step 4. Turn the appliance on using the wall switch or remote. To preserve battery life, do not use the HI/LO flame or THERMOSTAT options.

Step 5. To return to AC power, toggle the switch to OFF and remove the batteries from the battery tray.

The IFT2-ECM has a three-position switch (ON/OFF/REMOTE):

OFF Position: The appliance will not respond to any commands from remotes or mobile apps. Use this position during installation, service, fuel conversion, and to reset the module.

ON Position: The appliance will ignite and run continuously at the HIGH flame setting. The ECM will not respond to external controls. A safety feature will automatically shut down the fireplace after 9 hours of continuous operation in this position.

REMOTE Position: This position allows the appliance to be operated via remote controls or mobile apps. The fireplace will also automatically shut down after 9 hours of continuous operation if no command is received.

Note: When changing switch positions, pause in each position for 1-2 seconds.

If the remote or wall switch malfunctions and the MONESSEN AVFL48PIF will not turn off:

1. Unplug the appliance from the electrical source. If you cannot unplug it, locate and turn off the house circuit breaker for the appliance.

2. Turn the reset switch located in the front face to the OFF position.

Maintenance should be performed according to the following schedule:

To clean or access the LED strips on the MONESSEN AVFL48PIF:

Step 1. Turn off the gas supply and disconnect the main power to the appliance.

Step 2. Remove the glass deflection shield and place it on a clean flat surface.

Step 3. Remove all crushed glass media from the hearth surface.

Step 4. Remove the screen to access the LED strips inside the LED channels.

Step 5. Use a damp cloth to carefully wipe the strips. If replacement is needed, peel the old strips and place new self-adhesive strips into the clean channels.

If the remote control is not transmitting, check the following:

1. Verify the batteries are functional and installed correctly.

2. Check if the remote is in Child Lock mode; if so, disengage it.

3. Ensure buttons are being pressed firmly for one to two seconds.

It is normal for the appliance to release an odor for the first several hours of operation. This is caused by the burning off of manufacturing oils or adhesives used during installation. Odors can also be caused by dust, pet dander, or room sprays collecting on the burner when not in use. A thorough cleaning by a technician before each season is recommended to minimize this.

The IFT2-ECM uses specific LED patterns to indicate issues:

If the LED lights fail to turn on, follow these corrective actions:

1. Verify that the GFCI breaker is operating and AC power is connected to the appliance.

2. Ensure the 6V IPI control module power supply and the LED power supply are securely plugged into the junction box.

3. Check for loose or corroded connections in the wiring.

4. Check for 12VDC from the power supply. If 12VDC is present but the lights are off, the LED strip may be bad.
