Warning: Be careful when handling the SIM card to avoid damage. Keep all SIM cards out of reach of small children.

Caution: Exercise care when using the removal tool to eject the internal SIM card/Memory card tray.

1. Insert the removal tool into the hole on the SIM card/Memory card tray, and then push until the tray pops out.

2. Place the SIM card on the tray. Make sure that the card’s gold contacts face down into the device and that the card is positioned as shown.

3. Place the optional microSD memory card on the tray with the gold contacts facing down.

4. Slide the SIM card/Memory card tray back into the slot.

Note: To maintain the water-resistant features of your device, ensure the tray is securely inserted before any exposure to liquids.

Note: You should dry the inside of the charging port before inserting a power connector. If the port is not fully dry, your device may charge slowly or overheat. For fastest charging, use the Adaptive Fast Charger that came with your device.

Caution: Use only charging devices and batteries approved by Samsung to avoid voiding your warranty and causing damage.

1. Insert the USB cable into the USB charger/Accessory port.

2. Connect the USB cable to the charging head, and then plug the charging head into a standard outlet.

3. Unplug the charging head from the outlet and remove the USB cable from the device when charging is complete.

To check your battery level, view the battery charge indicator in the top right corner of the display.

If the device heats up while charging:

1. Disconnect the charger from the device and close any running apps.

2. Wait for the device to cool down, and then begin charging again.

If using a wireless charger, do not place foreign materials between the device and the wireless charger.

To turn the device on:

Press and hold the Power key until the device turns on.

To turn the device off:

1. Press and hold the Power key until the Device options menu is displayed.

2. Tap Power off, and confirm if prompted.

By default, the device locks automatically when the screen times out.

To lock the device:

Press the Power key.

To unlock the device:

Press the Power key or double-tap Home, and then drag your finger across the screen. The default screen lock is Swipe. To choose a more secure option, see “Set a Screen Lock”.

If your device stops responding to taps or finger gestures and you are unable to turn it off, you can restart it.

Press and hold the Power key and the Volume down key at the same time for more than seven seconds.

When you turn on your device for the first time, the Set Up Wizard will guide you. To create a new Google Account or set one up at any time:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Accounts.

3. Tap Add account > Google.

Factory Reset Protection (FRP) prevents others from using your device if it is reset to factory settings without your permission. Adding a Google Account automatically activates FRP.

Caution: If FRP is active, you will need your Google Account username and password to access the device after a factory data reset.

To disable Factory Reset Protection:

You must remove all Google Accounts from the device.

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Accounts > Google.

3. If you have more than one Google Account, tap the one you want to remove.

4. Tap More options > Remove account.

You can use Smart Switch™ to transfer contacts, photos, and other content. You can also use the included USB connector.

Note: The USB option must be set to Media device (MTP) on the other device. Ensure your battery is fully charged as this may increase consumption.

1. Select Smart Switch during the initial device setup, or from a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps, then tap Settings > Cloud and accounts > Smart Switch.

2. Follow the prompts and select the content to transfer.

Register a Face:

3. Follow the prompts to set a pattern, PIN, or password, and then register your face.

Manage Face Recognition:

After setup, return to the Face recognition settings to manage options like:

– Remove face data: Delete existing faces.

– Face unlock: Enable or disable face recognition security.

– Face unlock when screen turns on: Unlock your phone with face recognition as soon as the screen turns on.

You must set a pattern, PIN, or password to use fingerprint recognition. You can register up to three fingerprints.

Register a Fingerprint:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Fingerprint scanner.

3. Follow the prompts to register your fingerprint.

Manage Fingerprints:

Return to the Fingerprint scanner menu to manage your registered fingerprints. You can rename a fingerprint, add another one, or delete one by touching and holding it, then tapping Remove.

Warning: Do not stare directly into the infrared iris recognition LED as prolonged use can cause eye strain. Keep your eyes between 25-35 cm (~10-14 inches) away for optimum recognition.

Note: For best results, remove glasses and sunglasses. Do not use the scanner in bright sunlight or low light.

Register Irises:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Iris scanner.

3. Follow the prompts to set a pattern, PIN, or password, and then register your irises.

Manage Iris Verification:

In the Iris scanner menu, you can:

– Remove iris data.

– Choose a preview screen mask.

– Enable iris unlock for the device, Samsung Pass, your Samsung account, and Samsung Pay.

Multi window allows you to use multiple applications at the same time on a split screen.

Enable Multi Window:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Advanced features > Multi window.

3. Choose to enable Use Recents button for split screen view or Pop-up view action.

Use Multi Window:

1. From any screen, touch and hold Recent apps.

2. Tap two apps that support Multi window to open them in split screen view.

Alternatively, tap Recent apps, and if an app supports it, a Multi window icon will appear in its title bar. Tap this icon to launch it in split screen view, then tap another app icon to add it.

Emergency mode conserves battery power by restricting app usage, turning off mobile data when the screen is off, and turning off features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Activate Emergency Mode:

1. Press and hold the Power key.

2. Tap Emergency mode.

Using the Dialer:

From Recents:

To Answer a Call:

On the incoming call screen, drag Answer (green phone icon) to the right.

To Decline a Call:

On the incoming call screen, drag Decline (red phone icon) to the left to reject the call and send it to your voicemail.

To Decline with a Message:

On the incoming call screen, drag Send message upward and select a preset message.

Blocking a caller sends future calls from that number directly to your voicemail, and messages are not received.

1. From a Home screen, tap Phone.

2. Tap Recents.

3. Tap the caller you want to add to the Block list.

4. Tap Details > More options > Block contact. Confirm when prompted.

You can also manage your Block list by going to Phone > More options > Settings > Block numbers.

Wi-Fi Calling allows you to make calls over a Wi-Fi network.

2. Tap Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Wi-Fi Calling.

3. Tap On/Off to enable the feature.

4. Tap an option to customize your preference for calling (Wi-Fi Preferred, Cellular Network Preferred, Never use Cellular Network).

Note: You must be logged into your Samsung account to use Samsung Pay.

Set Up Samsung Pay:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Samsung Pay, then tap Start and follow the prompts to add your cards.

Use Samsung Pay:

1. From any screen, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Simple Pay.

2. Select a card to pay with and authorize the payment by scanning your fingerprint or entering your Samsung Pay PIN.

3. Hold your phone over the store’s card reader.

Secure Folder locks your private content and apps to enhance security. You must be signed in to your Samsung account and have a secure screen lock set for your device.

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Secure Folder.

3. Follow the prompts to secure content on your device.

Wi-Fi:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi.

3. Tap On/Off to turn on Wi-Fi. Your device will automatically scan for available networks.

4. Tap the network you want to connect to and enter the password if required.

Bluetooth:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.

3. Tap On/Off to turn on Bluetooth. The device will scan for nearby devices.

4. Tap the name of the target device to pair with it. If automatic pairing fails, enter the passcode supplied with the target device.

Note: You must have a tethering plan on your service account. Mobile hotspot consumes battery power and uses data service.

Turn on Mobile Hotspot:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Connections > Mobile hotspot and tethering > Mobile hotspot.

3. Tap On/Off to turn Mobile hotspot on or off.

Connect a Device to Your Hotspot:

1. On the other device, activate Wi-Fi.

2. Scan for Wi-Fi hotspots and select your METROPCS SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 G950U’s Mobile hotspot.

3. Enter your Mobile hotspot password on the target device.

You can reset different settings on your device.
