Step 1. Set the maximum cutting depth (see next section).
Step 2. Press the spindle locking button (7) and rotate the front diamond cut-off wheel (18) slowly until the button engages.
Step 3. With the button pressed, unscrew the clamping nut (17) with the supplied 2-hole spanner (anti-clockwise).
Step 4. Arrange the spacer rings (20) and diamond cut-off wheels according to the desired groove width. The clamping flange (19) must always be fitted onto the spindle with the sheath facing out. Ensure the diamond wheels are fitted with the correct direction of rotation, as indicated by arrows (16) on the wheels and the guard (15).
Step 5. Lock the spindle by pressing the spindle locking button (7) and tighten the clamping nut (17) with the two-hole wrench (14) (clockwise direction).
Step 6. Carry out a test run. Set minimum cutting depth. Position yourself away from the plane of the rotating wheel and run the power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute. Stop immediately if significant vibrations occur.
3. Setting Cutting Depth:
Undo the clamping lever (4) and set the desired cutting depth using the scale (3). Retighten the clamping lever (4). If required, the position of the clamping lever can be changed by pulling it out, turning it, and lowering it again.
4. Attaching Dust Extraction:
Caution! Never work without a dust extraction device as dusts can be harmful to health and the motor can quickly choke on stone dust. Use a suitable Metabo HPT vacuum cleaner and anti-static suction hoses. To extract stone dust, put the suction hose onto the extraction nozzle (8).
How do I operate the METABO HPT MFE 40 Wall Chaser?
Switching On and Off:
Always guide the machine with both hands. Switch it on first, then guide the accessory towards the workpiece. Avoid inadvertent starts by always switching the tool off when the plug is removed or if there has been a power cut.
• Torque activation (momentary): Slide the lock (1) in the direction of the arrow and press the trigger switch (2). To switch off, release the trigger switch (2).
• Continuous operation: Slide the lock (1), press the trigger switch (2) and keep it pressed. Then slide the lock (1) once more to lock the trigger switch (2). To switch off, press the trigger switch (2) and release.
Working with the Wall Chaser:
Step 1. Always guide the machine with both hands on the handles (12) and (13).
Step 2. Use the markings (6) on the guard as a cutting indicator. These markings are in the extension of the rear diamond cutting disc.
Step 3. Place the wall chaser (with the motor switched on) with the support wheels (9) on the surface to be cut.
Step 4. Slowly guide the tool down until the set cutting depth has been reached.
Step 5. Push the machine in the cutting direction, as indicated by the arrow (11) on the guard. Always push the machine in the stipulated direction through the material.
Step 6. Once the groove is complete, switch off the tool and hold it steady until the diamond cut-off wheel comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the cutting disc from the cut while the wheel is in motion, as kickback may occur.
Step 7. Remove the machine from the cut and put it down on its side. The remaining strip between the two chases can be removed with the provided chase extraction chisel.
Note: Grooves of greater depth cannot be cut into hard material (e.g., cement) in one movement.
How should I maintain and clean the METABO HPT MFE 40?
Significantly reduced work progress and increased feed force are signs of blunt diamond cut-off wheels. To sharpen blunt diamond cut-off wheels, carry out short cuts into abrasive materials such as sand-lime brick.
Particles can deposit inside the power tool during operation, which impairs cooling. The power tool should be cleaned regularly, often, and thoroughly through all front and rear air vents using a vacuum cleaner. Before cleaning, separate the power tool from the power source and wear protective goggles and a dust mask.
What should I do in case of overload or a machine fault on the METABO HPT MFE 40?
Safety Clutch:
The METABO HPT MFE 40 has an automatic safety coupling built into the gears. This protects the operator from high torque if a diamond cut-off wheel is canted during work. If the safety coupling engages, immediately switch the motor off and do not allow the coupling to drag.
Electronic Overload Indicator:
If the electronic signal indicator (5) is on, the load on the machine is too high. Reduce the feed pressure until the electronic signal indicator goes off.
Troubleshooting (Machine does not start):
If the machine does not start and the electronic signal indicator (5) flashes, the restart protection is active. This occurs if the mains plug is inserted with the machine switched on or if power is restored after an interruption. To resolve this, switch the machine off and back on again.
