What is the intended use of the Metabo TS 216 and TS 216 Floor table saws?
This table circular saw is intended for ripping and crosscutting grown timber, faced boards, chipboard, and wood-core plywood sheets, and similar materials.
Metals can only be cut with the following restrictions:
– With a suitable saw blade only.
– Only non-ferrous metals (no hard metal or hardened metal, no magnesium).
Do not cut round stock without suitable jigs or fixtures. The rotating saw blade could turn the workpiece. When sawing thin stock laid on its edge, a suitable guide must be used for firm support.
The tool must not be used for:
– Seaming and grooving.
– Slitting (a groove that ends in the workpiece).
– Plunge cuts.
Any other use is considered not as specified and is not allowed. Modification of the machine or use of parts not approved by the manufacturer can cause unforeseeable damage.
How do I install the table saw without the machine stand?
Ensure firm footing and keep your balance at all times.
1. Lift the tool with two people out of the packaging.
2. Place the saw down on a stable table or workbench.
3. Bolt the saw firmly onto the table or workbench.
4. To even out irregularities in the floor using the adjustable foot (21): Undo the screw, adjust the foot, then tighten the screw up firmly.
How do I install the table saw with the machine stand?
1. Lift the tool with two people out of the packaging.
2. Place the tool on the ground.
3. Lift the tool by its handles and set it up on its edge.
4. Pull out the handles (30), turn them, and engage them.
5. Fold out the two lower table legs. To do this, press the red swivel lever (31) downwards (with your foot or hand) and swing down the table legs.
6. Tilt the tool slightly to the rear and press down both table legs. The red swivel levers (31) must engage.
7. Fold out the upper two table legs. To do this, push the red swivel lever (32) to the right and swing the table legs downwards. The red swivel levers must engage.
8. Hold the saw around the center of the upper frame. Pull the saw up and set it down. Hold the adjustable base in position with your foot to prevent the saw from slipping during installation.
9. Compensate for floor irregularities with the adjustable base (33).
How do I assemble and adjust the splitting wedge?
The splitting wedge (5) has been correctly set at the factory. Readjustment is only required if it has become maladjusted during transit.
1. Raise the saw blade fully.
2. Insert the open-end wrench (29) into the opening of the table insert (4), lift the latter and remove it.
3. Release the locking lever (34) by turning it anti-clockwise.
4. Pull the splitting wedge (5) out of the lower transport position upwards as far as it will go.
5. Check the splitting wedge:
– The distance between the saw blade’s outer edge and the splitting wedge needs to be 3 to 8 mm.
– The splitting wedge must be in alignment with the saw blade.
6. Tighten the locking lever (34) by turning it clockwise.
To set lateral alignment (if required):
The splitting wedge (5) and saw blade must be in true alignment.
7. Release the three Allen screws (35).
8. Align the splitting wedge (5) flush with the saw blade.
9. Tighten the three Allen screws (35).
10. Insert the table insert (4) and press down firmly.
How do I install the blade guard?
1. Raise the saw blade fully.
2. Install the blade guard (7) at the splitting wedge (5).
3. Firmly tighten the blade guard with the lock lever (36).
How do I adjust the height of the table insert?
The table insert (4) is set correctly when its surface is 0 mm to 0.7 mm below the table surface.
Adjust the 4 screws in the corners of the table insert (4) to adjust the height.
What are the power supply requirements for this table saw?
Operate this machine in dry surroundings only and on a power source meeting the following requirements:
– Outlets properly installed, earthed or grounded, and tested.
– Mains voltage and system frequency must conform to the voltage and frequency shown on the machine’s rating label.
– Fuse protection by a residual current circuit breaker (RCCB) of 30 mA sensitivity.
Additionally, position the power supply cable so it does not interfere with work and is not damaged. Use only rubber-jacketed extension cables with sufficient lead cross-section, and for outdoor work, use only cables approved for outdoors.
How do I set the depth of cut?
Set the depth of cut only with the saw blade at a standstill. The saw blade’s cutting depth needs to be adapted to the workpiece’s height: the blade guard shall rest with its front edge on the workpiece.
Adjust the cutting depth by turning the handwheel (17) as required.
Note: To balance eventual play in the adjustment, always move the saw blade from below into the desired position.
How do I set the saw blade tilt for bevel cuts?
Set the saw blade tilt only with the saw blade at a standstill. The blade bevel angle can be adjusted between -1.5° and 46.5°.
1. Release the clamping lever (19).
2. Set the desired saw blade inclination by turning the hand wheel (18).
3. Lock the set inclination by tightening the clamping lever (19) (turn clockwise).
Setting for undercutting:
The blade tilt setting has end stops at 0° and 45°. For special bevel cuts (undercutting), the bevel angle can be increased by 1.5° in both directions.
– Withdraw the bevel angle limitation stop (20) and place it over the right-hand cam plate to make the bevel angle of the saw blade adjustable between –1.5° and 45°.
– Withdraw the bevel angle limitation stop (20) and place it over the left-hand cam plate to make the bevel angle of the saw blade adjustable between 0° and 46.5°.
How do I operate the ON/OFF switch?
– To switch on, press the upper switch (15) for 1-2 seconds.
– To switch off, press the lower switch (16).
How do I adjust and use the ripping fence?
The ripping fence (11) is mounted on the guide extrusion at the front of the saw table.
1. Position the ripping fence to the right of the saw blade. The marking in the magnifying glass shows the set distance on the scale.
2. Release the clamping lever (12) of the ripping fence and shift it until the marking in the magnifying glass indicates the desired distance to the saw blade. Press the clamping lever (12) downwards to lock it.
The fence extrusion (37) can be removed and shifted by loosening the two knurled nuts (38). Use the small edge for cutting thin stock or when the blade is tilted. Use the wide edge for cutting high workpieces.
Adjusting the pointer on the ripping fence:
1. Align the ripping fence with the saw blade.
2. Loosen the ripping fence pointer fixing screw.
3. Bring the pointer on the ripping fence and “0” on the scale into alignment.
4. Retighten the ripping fence pointer fixing screw.
How do I set the mitre fence?
The mitre fence (3) is inserted into the table slot from the table’s front edge. For mitre cuts, the mitre fence can turn up to 60° in both directions. For 45° and 90° mitre cuts, appropriate stops are provided.
To set a mitre angle, loosen the locking handle (8) by turning it counter-clockwise. When cutting with the mitre fence, the handle must be firmly tightened.
The auxiliary fence extrusion can be taken off and reversed after loosening the knurled nut (39).
How do I use the table side and length extensions?
Adjusting table side extension:
The table width extension (9) extends the supporting surface for larger workpieces. The clamping lever (10) has to be released to adjust it. Use the rear clamping lever for the left extension and the front clamping lever for the right extension. The handle must be firmly tightened when cutting.
Adjusting table length extension:
The table length extension (2) extends the supporting surface for longer workpieces.
1. To pull out the table length extension, both knurled screws (40) must be released.
2. Withdraw the table length extension and set it to the desired distance.
3. Retighten both knurled screws.
What is the correct procedure for making straight cuts and mitre cuts?
Always use a push stick if the distance between the saw blade and the ripping fence is less than 120 mm.
Straight cut:
1. Set the blade tilt and lock it in position.
2. Set the depth of cut. The blade guard must rest with its front edge on the workpiece.
3. With the saw blade inclined, fix the parallel guide to the left of the saw blade and set it.
4. Start the saw.
5. Push the workpiece in a steady motion towards the rear and cut in a single pass.
6. Switch the machine off if no further cutting is to be done immediately afterwards.
Mitre cuts:
1. The mitre fence (3) is inserted into the table slot from the table’s front edge.
2. Set the desired angle after loosening the mitre fence’s clamping handle (8) and then retighten it.
3. Adjust the lateral distance between the auxiliary fence and saw blade by releasing the knurled nut (39), moving the fence, and then tightening the nut.
4. Hold the workpiece firmly against the mitre fence.
5. Cut the workpiece by pushing the mitre fence forward.
6. Switch the machine off if no further cutting is to be done immediately afterwards.
How should I prepare the table saw for transport?
Before every transport:
– Switch the machine off.
– Wait for the saw blade to come to a standstill.
– Disconnect from the power supply.
– Remove add-on parts (blade guard, dust extraction) and store the blade guard at the saw table.
– Bring the splitting wedge into the transport position. Slide the splitting wedge (5) downwards until it stops.
– Lower the saw blade fully.
– Set the saw blade inclination angle to 0° and lock it with the clamping lever.
– Wind up the mains cable on the cable reel.
For tools with machine stand:
– Raise the tool on its frame and swing it to the rear. Set the machine up on its edge and fold in the upper legs. The red swivel levers must engage again.
– Swing the machine to the rear and fold in the lower legs. The red swivel levers must engage again.
– Push in the handles and set the machine down.
Push in both table width extensions fully and lock them with the clamping levers. Use the side handles (41) at the table to carry the machine.
How do I change the saw blade?
Directly after cutting, the saw blade can be very hot; let a hot saw blade cool down. Wear gloves when changing blades and observe the direction of rotation when fitting a new blade.
1. Raise the saw blade fully.
2. Remove the blade guard (7).
3. Insert the open-end wrench (29) into the opening of the table insert (4), lift the latter and remove it.
4. Turn the clamping nut (43) of the saw blade using an open-jawed spanner (29) and, at the same time, pull the lever of the saw blade lock (42) upwards until it engages.
5. Hold the lever (42) firmly in position and unscrew the clamping nut (43) clockwise.
6. Remove the clamping nut (43), outer blade flange (44), and saw blade from the saw spindle.
7. Clean the clamping surfaces of the saw blade flanges (44 and 45) and the saw blade.
8. Push the inner saw blade flange (45) onto the motor shaft.
9. Put on a new saw blade, observing the direction of rotation.
10. Slide on the outer blade flange (44).
11. Screw on the clamping nut (43) (left-handed thread). Turn the clamping nut (43) with the open-jawed spanner (29) and, at the same time, pull the lever of the saw blade lock (42) upwards until it engages.
12. Hold the lever (42) firmly in position and tighten the clamping nut hand-tight by turning anti-clockwise.
13. Adjust the splitting wedge according to the saw blade size (46).
14. Insert the table insert (4) and press down firmly.
15. Attach the blade guard (7).
How do I adjust the blade tilt stop?
1. Set the blade tilt stop lever (20) for the angle range to 0° / 45°.
2. Lock the set angle of inclination by tightening the clamping lever (19).
3. Check the angle of inclination: 0° should be at right angles to the saw table, and 45° should be checked with a separate mitre square.
4. If these angles are not achieved exactly, release the cross-head screw (47) at the respective cam disc and adjust the cam plate until the blade bevel angle is exactly 0° or 45° in the end positions.
5. Retighten the cross-head screw at the cam plate.
6. After adjusting the stop limitation, readjust the angle scale at the front side if necessary.
Note: To set the bevel angle limitation from -1.5° to 46.5°, the blade tilt stop lever must be pulled out.
What are the regular maintenance tasks for the table saw?
Saw Cleaning:
Remove chips and saw dust with a vacuum cleaner or brush from:
– Saw blade setting guide elements
– Motor vent slots
– Chip case
– Height adjustment
– Swivel guide
Before switching ON:
Visually check if the distance between the saw blade and splitting wedge is 3 to 8 mm and if the splitting wedge is in line with the saw blade. Also, visually check the power cable and plug for damage.
Every time the machine is switched off:
Check whether the saw blade overrun exceeds 10 seconds; if it is longer, have the motor replaced by a qualified electrician.
Monthly (if used daily):
Remove saw dust and chips with a vacuum or brush; apply a light coat of oil to guide elements such as the threaded rod, guide rods, and swivel segments.
Every 150 hours of operation:
Check all screwed joints and retighten if necessary.
How do I troubleshoot common problems with the table saw?
Motor does not run
The restart protection is active. If the mains plug is inserted with the machine switched on, or if the current supply is restored following an interruption, the machine does not start up. Switch the machine off and back on again. Check for no mains voltage by checking cables, plug, outlet, and mains fuse. If the motor is overheated, remove the cause, let it cool off for a few minutes, then restart.
Speed is not reached
This may be due to overload protection. If there is a MAJOR reduction in load speed, the motor temperature is too high. Allow the machine to run at idle speed until it has cooled down. If there is a SLIGHT reduction in load speed, the machine is overloaded; reduce the load.
Loss of cutting performance
If the saw blade is blunt (possibly with tempering marks on the blade body), replace the saw blade.
Chip ejection blocked
If no dust extraction unit is connected or suction capacity is insufficient, connect a unit or increase suction capacity (air speed ≥ 20 m/sec at chip ejection tube).
