What are some general power tool safety warnings?

It is important to read and save all safety warnings and instructions. The term “power tool” refers to mains-operated (corded) or battery-operated (cordless) tools. Keep the work area clean and well lit. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Power tool plugs must match the outlet, and adapter plugs should not be used with earthed (grounded) power tools. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Do not abuse the cord, and keep it away from heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protected supply. Stay alert, and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. Use personal protective equipment, including eye protection. Prevent unintentional starting by ensuring the switch is in the off-position before connecting to a power source. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. Do not overreach; keep proper footing and balance. Dress properly, and keep hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. If devices are provided for dust extraction, ensure they are connected and properly used. Do not force the power tool; use the correct tool for the application. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments or changing accessories. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children. Maintain power tools, and check for misalignment or binding of moving parts. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Use the power tool, accessories, and tool bits in accordance with the instructions. Have power tools serviced by a qualified repair person using identical replacement parts. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease. Make sure extension cords are in good condition and heavy enough to carry the current the product will draw.

What are the Circular Saw Safety Warnings related to cutting procedures?

Keep hands away from the cutting area and the blade, with the second hand on the auxiliary handle or motor housing. Do not reach underneath the workpiece. Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Never hold the piece being cut in your hands or across your leg; secure it to a stable platform. Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. When ripping, always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. Always use blades with the correct size and shape of arbour holes. Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolts.

What are the causes of kickback and how can it be avoided?

Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, bound, or misaligned saw blade. It can cause the saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator. Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw and position arms to resist kickback forces. Position the body to either side of the blade, not in line with it. When the blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut, release the trigger and hold the saw motionless until the blade stops. When restarting a saw in the workpiece, center the saw blade in the kerf and check that saw teeth are not engaged into the material. Support large panels to minimize the risk of blade pinching and kickback. Do not use dull or damaged blades. Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making a cut. Use extra caution when sawing into existing walls or other blind areas. Always hold the tool firmly with both hands and never place your hand or fingers behind the saw. Never force the saw; push it forward at a speed that allows the blade to cut without slowing.

What should you check regarding the lower guard function?

Check the lower guard for proper closing before each use. Do not operate the saw if the lower guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position. If the saw is accidentally dropped, the lower guard may be bent. Check the operation of the lower guard spring. The lower guard should be retracted manually only for special cuts. Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing the saw down. Check that the retracting handle does not touch the tool housing.

What are some additional safety warnings?

The tool is intended to cut wood products only. Use extra caution when cutting damp wood, pressure-treated lumber, or wood containing knots. Do not attempt to remove cut material when the blade is moving. Avoid cutting nails; inspect for and remove all nails from lumber before cutting. Place the wider portion of the saw base on the part of the workpiece that is solidly supported. Be sure the lower guard has closed and the blade has come to a complete stop before setting the tool down. Never attempt to saw with the circular saw held upside down in a vise. Some materials contain toxic chemicals; take caution to prevent dust inhalation and skin contact. Do not stop the blades by lateral pressure. Do not use any abrasive wheels. Only use the saw blade with the diameter marked on the tool or specified in the manual. Keep the blade sharp and clean. Wear a dust mask and hearing protection when using the tool. Do not let comfort or familiarity with the product replace strict adherence to safety rules.

What are the symbols used for the tool?

V – volts. A – amperes. ~ – alternating or direct current. …/min – no load speed. – Class II Construction. r/min – revolutions or reciprocation per minute.

How do you adjust the depth of cut?

Loosen the lever on the depth guide and move the base up or down. At the desired depth of cut, secure the base by tightening the lever. For cleaner, safer cuts, set the cut depth so that no more than one blade tooth projects below the workpiece.

How do you adjust the bevel?

Loosen the clamping screw on the bevel scale plate on the front of the base. Set for the desired angle (0° – 45°) by tilting accordingly, then tighten the clamping screw securely.

How do you use the sighting feature?

For straight cuts, align the A position on the front of the base with your cutting line. For 45° bevel cuts, align the B position with it.

How does the switch action work?

To start the tool, pull the switch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop. Always check that the switch trigger actuates properly and returns to the “OFF” position when released before plugging in the tool.

What is the function of the electric brake (Model 5007FA only)?

The tool is equipped with an electric blade brake. If the tool consistently fails to quickly stop the blade after the switch trigger is released, have the tool serviced at a Makita service center. The blade brake system is not a substitute for the lower guard.

How does the lamp function?

The lamp lights up when the tool is plugged in and stays on until it is unplugged. Use a dry cloth to wipe dirt off the lens, and be careful not to scratch the lens.

How do you remove or install the saw blade?

Be sure the tool is switched off and unplugged. Ensure the blade is installed with teeth pointing up at the front of the tool. Use only the Makita wrench to install or remove the blade. To remove the blade, press the shaft lock so that the blade cannot revolve and use the wrench to loosen the hex bolt counterclockwise. Then remove the hex bolt, outer flange, and blade. To install the blade, follow the removal procedure in reverse and tighten the hex bolt clockwise securely. When changing the blade, clean the upper and lower blade guards of accumulated sawdust.

How do you operate the circular saw?

Move the tool forward in a straight line gently. Forcing or twisting the tool will result in overheating the motor and dangerous kickback. Hold the tool firmly, using both the front grip and rear handle. Set the base on the workpiece without the blade making any contact. Turn the tool on and wait until the blade attains full speed. Then, move the tool forward over the workpiece surface, keeping it flat and advancing smoothly until sawing is complete. If the cut fails to follow the intended line, do not force the tool back to the cut line. Release the switch, wait for the blade to stop, withdraw the tool, realign the tool, and start the cut again.

How do you use the rip fence?

Slide the rip fence up snugly against the side of the workpiece and secure it in position with the screw on the front of the base.

How do you maintain the circular saw?

Always ensure the tool is switched off and unplugged before performing any inspection or maintenance. Clean out the upper and lower guards to ensure there is no accumulated sawdust that may impede the operation of the lower guarding system. The most effective way to clean the guards is with compressed air. Be sure to use the proper eye and breathing protection when cleaning with compressed air. Do not use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol, or the like.

How do you adjust for accuracy of a 90° cut?

Adjust the adjusting screw with a hex wrench while squaring the blade with the base using a triangular rule or try square.

How do you replace carbon brushes?

Remove and check carbon brushes regularly. Replace when they wear down to the limit mark. Keep carbon brushes clean and free to slip in the holders. Both carbon brushes should be replaced at the same time. Use only identical carbon brushes. Use a screwdriver to remove the brush holder caps. Take out the worn carbon brushes, insert the new ones, and secure the brush holder caps. For model 5007FA only, after replacing the brushes, plug in the tool and break in the brushes by running the tool with no load for about 10 minutes. Then, check the tool while running and the electric brake operation when releasing the switch trigger.

What are some optional accessories for the circular saw?

Steel & Carbide-tipped saw blades. Combination general-purpose blades for fast and smooth rip, crosscuts, and miters. Blades designed for fast cutting of pressure-treated and wet lumber. Blades for fine crosscuts for sand-free cuts cleanly against the grain. A rip fence (guide rule). A Wrench 13.
