The power cord of your LG LW8023ERSM air conditioner has a three-prong (grounding) plug. Use this with a standard three-slot (grounding) wall power outlet to minimize the risk of electric shock. You should have the wall receptacle and circuit checked by a qualified electrician to ensure it is properly grounded. DO NOT CUT OR REMOVE THE THIRD (GROUND) PRONG FROM THE POWER PLUG.

The use of an adapter plug is strongly discouraged due to potential safety hazards. If you must use an adapter for a temporary connection, use a UL-listed adapter available from most local hardware stores. The large slot in the adapter must align with the large slot in the receptacle for proper polarity. Attaching the adapter ground terminal to the wall receptacle cover screw only grounds the appliance if the cover screw is metal, not insulated, and the wall receptacle is grounded through the house wiring. Have a qualified electrician check the circuit to ensure proper grounding.

When disconnecting the power cord from the adapter, use one hand on the plug and one on the adapter. Do not use the appliance with a broken adapter plug. For frequent disconnections, replace the wall outlet with a three-slot (grounding) outlet instead of using an adapter.

The LG LW8023ERSM contains a flammable refrigerant (R32) and requires special safety precautions.

The LG LW8023ERSM should be installed in accordance with the National Electrical Code. The power cord includes a current interrupter device with TEST and RESET buttons. This device should be tested periodically by first pressing the TEST button and then the RESET button. If the TEST button does not trip or the RESET button does not stay engaged, discontinue use and contact a qualified service technician.

WARNING:

• Do not use an extension cord with this window air conditioner.

• Do not use surge protectors or multi-outlet adapters.

• Never push the TEST button during operation, as this can damage the plug.

• Do not remove, modify, or immerse the plug.

1. To prevent vibration and noise, make sure the unit is installed securely and firmly.

2. Install the unit out of direct sunlight.

3. Ensure there are no obstacles, such as a fence or wall, within 20 inches from the back of the cabinet to allow for heat radiation from the condenser.

4. Install the unit slightly tilted so the back is about 1/4″ lower than the front. This allows condensed water to flow outside.

5. Install the unit with the bottom between 30 to 60 inches above the floor level.

The LG LW8023ERSM is designed for installation in standard double-hung windows with actual opening widths from 22 inches to 36 inches. The top and bottom window sashes must open enough to allow a clear vertical opening of 13 inches from the bottom of the upper sash to the inside sill.

If your window has a storm window frame that prevents the air conditioner from tilting properly, attach a 1″ x 2″ piece of wood to the inner sill. The top of this wood shim must be at least 3/4″ higher than the top of the storm window frame. Attach the wood securely with nails or screws. If needed, attach another 1″ x 2″ wood strip against the back of the inner sill to raise the L bracket.

1. Align the holes between the upper guide and the top of the cabinet, then install it with 3 type A screws.

2. Insert the top and bottom rails of the curtain panels into the upper and lower panel guides. Fasten the curtain panels to the unit with 8 type A screws. Fasten screws behind the curtain panel.

3. Cut the window sash seals to the proper length. Peel off the backing and attach the adhesive-backed foam to the underside of the window sash and the bottom of the window frame.

4. Open the window and draw a center line on the center of the inner sill. Then, mark lines 8 inches to the left and right of the center line.

5. Install the L bracket behind the inner window sill as shown, using the 2 provided type A screws. The bracket helps hold the unit securely in place, so ensure the bracket edge is flush against the back of the inner sill.

CAUTION: During the following steps, hold the unit firmly until the window sash is lowered to the top channel behind the side panel frames to prevent personal injury or property damage if the unit falls.

1. Center the air conditioner in the window. Place it so the front edge of the bottom guide is against the back edge of the sill. Bring the window down so the front edge of the upper guide is in front of the window. Ensure the air conditioner is level or tilting slightly to the outside.

2. Extend the guide panels to fill the window opening and use 4 type B screws to secure them to the window.

3. Cut the non-adhesive foam strip to the proper length and insert it between the upper window sash and the lower window sash to create a seal.

4. To prevent broken glass or damage to vinyl or similarly constructed windows, attach the L bracket to the window frame with a type A screw.

5. Remove the screw from the bottom right of the cabinet. Attach the support bracket using the screw you just removed. Secure the support bracket to the inner window sill using a type B screw.

1. Power: Press to turn the air conditioner ON or OFF.

2. Fan Speed: Press to set the Fan Speed to Low (F1), Medium (F2), or High (F3).

3. Delay ON/OFF Timer:

• Delay ON: When the unit is off, set it to automatically turn on from 1 to 24 hours later at its previous settings.

• Delay OFF: When the unit is on, set it to automatically turn off from 1 to 24 hours later.

• Each press of the Timer button advances the timer by 1 hour.

4. Operation Mode: Press the Mode button to cycle between 4 types of operation:

• Energy Saver: The compressor and fan turn off when the set temperature is reached. The fan turns on approximately every 3 minutes to check the room temperature.

• Cool: Cools and dehumidifies the room. Use the Temp buttons to set the desired temperature and the Fan Speed button for circulation speed.

• Dry: Dehumidifies the room on rainy or damp days. The fan speed is fixed at Low. Fan speed cannot be adjusted in Dry mode.

• Fan: Circulates air without cooling (compressor is off). Use the Fan Speed button to set fan speed to High, Medium, or Low. You cannot adjust the set temperature in this mode.

5. Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi Model Only): Enables connection of the air conditioner to the home Wi-Fi.

6. Clean Filter: The LED lights up after 250 hours of operation as a reminder to clean the filter. After cleaning, press Temp up and down together on the control panel, or press the Temp down button on the remote for 3 seconds to turn off the light.

7. Temperature Control: The thermostat can be set between 60 °F–86 °F (16 °C–30 °C). Press the up or down arrows to change the temperature setting.

8. Demand Response: The LED lights up when the appliance is in DR mode to control energy usage during peak periods.

Using the Light Off Function:

You can set the brightness of the control panel.

• Press the Timer button on the remote control for 3 seconds.

This will turn the control panel lights on or off. If the display is set to OFF, pressing a button on the remote will turn the display on for 5 seconds.

Using the Mute Function:

You can turn the unit’s buzzer sound on or off.

• Press the Mode button on the remote control for 3 seconds.

1. Push out the cover on the back of the remote control with your thumb.

2. With the plus and minus poles facing as marked, insert two new AAA 1.5 V batteries.

3. Reattach the cover.

Note: Two new batteries are supplied with the air conditioner. Do not use a rechargeable battery. Remove the batteries if the remote control will not be used for an extended period.

Adjusting Horizontal Airflow Direction:

The horizontal airflow is adjusted by moving the levers of the vertical louvers to the left or right.

Adjusting Vertical Airflow Direction:

Touch the horizontal louvers to adjust the airflow up or down.

Your LG LW8023ERSM air conditioner is equipped with a slinger fan. The fan’s outer ring picks up the condensed water from the base pan if the water level gets high enough. This water is then picked up by the fan and expelled through the condenser, which makes the air conditioner more efficient.

1. Check the distance between the LG LW8023ERSM and the wireless router (Wi-Fi network). If the distance is too far, the signal strength will be weak, and registration or installation may fail.

2. Turn off the Mobile data or Cellular Data on your smartphone.

3. Connect your smartphone to the wireless router.

Note:

• To verify the connection, check that the Wi-Fi LED on the control panel is lit.

• The appliance supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks only.

• If you have trouble connecting, you may need a Wi-Fi repeater (range extender) to improve the signal strength.

WARNING: Before cleaning or performing maintenance, disconnect the power supply and wait until the fan stops.

Cleaning the Air Filter:

Check the air filter at least twice a month. Trapped particles can block airflow and reduce cooling capacity.

1. Remove the air filter from the front grille by pulling the filter forward and then up slightly.

2. Wash the filter using lukewarm water below 40 °C (104 °F).

3. Gently shake the excess water from the filter and replace it.

Cleaning the Air Conditioner:

• Remove dust from the air inlet and outlet using a vacuum cleaner.

• Wipe the front grille and inlet grille with a cloth dampened in a mild detergent solution.

• Wash the cabinet with mild soap or detergent and lukewarm water, then polish using liquid appliance wax.

Note: To ensure continued peak efficiency, the condenser coils (outside of the unit) should be checked periodically and cleaned if clogged with soot or dirt from outside air.

You may hear the following sounds during normal operation of your LG LW8023ERSM:

1. High Pitched Chatter: Today’s high-efficiency compressors may have a high-pitched chatter during the cooling cycle.

2. Sound of Rushing Air: At the front of the unit, you may hear the sound of rushing air being moved by the fan.

3. Gurgle/Hiss: A gurgling or hissing noise may be heard due to refrigerant passing through the evaporator during normal operation.

4. Vibration: The unit may vibrate and make noise because of poor wall or window construction or incorrect installation.

5. Pinging or Swishing: Droplets of water hitting the condenser during normal operation may cause pinging or swishing sounds.
