Step 1. Initiate Configuration or Exit

On the “Installer Menu Wizard” screen, use the Up/Down arrow keys to highlight “Express Script” to proceed or “Exit” to close the wizard. Press OK.

Step 2. Configure Pro:Centric Settings

On the next screen, you can configure the connection to a Pro:Centric server.

• For RF Configuration: Select “RF” as the Media Type. Key in the Data Channel number (1-135) used by the server.

• For IP Configuration: Select “IP” as the Media Type. Key in the server’s IP Address and Port number.

• Select the Pro:Centric Application Mode (GEM, FLASH, or Configuration Only). After completing the fields, select “Next” and press OK to continue, or “Done” to save and exit.

Step 3. Select the Tuning Band

Step 5. Select the Speaker Configuration

Step 10. Completion

The Ez Download utility allows you to download multiple files (TLX, TLL, software updates, splash screen) from a USB memory device to your TV.

Before You Begin:

• Ensure the USB device is formatted with FAT.

• Software and splash image files must be in a folder named “LG_DTV” in the root directory.

• TLX and TLL files should be in the root directory.

Procedure:

1. Turn ON the TV. If the Express Script wizard appears, exit it.

2. If using the TV Zoning feature, assign the appropriate TV Zone # to the TV before proceeding.

3. Insert the USB memory device into the TV’s USB port.

4. To access the TV Manager, press MENU. Use the arrow keys to highlight the Option menu icon (or Lock menu icon if not in Pass-through Mode). Then, press the number “7” key seven times.

5. In the TV Manager menu, select Ez Download and press OK.

6. The Ez Download window will list available files. Use the Up/Down arrows to highlight a file and press OK to select or de-select it. You can only select one of each file type for downloading.

7. For each highlighted file, select the appropriate options on the right side of the screen. For TLX files with a Channel Map, you can select Logical or Physical tuning.

8. When you are ready, use the arrow keys to select Apply and press OK.

9. A progress window will appear. Do NOT remove the USB device until the download is complete.

10. Once complete, remove the USB device and verify the configuration on the TV.

The Installer Menu allows you to set up, change, or view operational settings on your LG 42LY560M.

Accessing the Installer Menu:

1. Turn ON the TV and exit the Express Script wizard if it appears.

f. After adjusting all items, press OK once to save, and OK again to exit the menu.

3. Set up TV Features. Press MENU to access the TV setup menus. Configure Channel, Picture, Audio, and other options as desired for the end user.

4. (For TLL Cloning Only) Run Auto Tuning. Access the Channel Menu, select Auto Tuning, and follow the on-screen instructions. Then use Channel Edit and Channel Label to customize the lineup.

5. (For TLL Cloning Only) Transfer Setup to PTC. Tune to the source channel whose settings you want to clone. Access the Installer Menu and press 2-5-5 + MENU to transfer the setup to the PTC.

6. (For TLL Cloning Only / Optional) Add Custom Labels. Access the Installer Menu and press 2-5-4 + MENU to add/edit channel icons and custom text labels in the PTC Channel Map.

7. Verify the TV Setup. Ensure all TV features, channel lineup, and labels are correct.

8. Set up Channel Banks. If desired, set up channel banks. Note that this must be done before locking the channel lineup.

9. (Recommended) Lock the Channel Lineup. Access the Installer Menu and set item 028 CH. OVERIDE to 0, then press OK to lock the lineup and restrict user access. Press OK again to exit.

The Master TV Setup is now ready to be saved to a USB memory device for cloning.

You can change channel icons and add/edit custom text labels using the 2-5-4 + MENU Mode, provided that channels have been transferred to the TV’s PTC (Protocol Translator Card).

1. Use the Installer Remote to access the TV Installer Menu.

2. Press 2-5-4 + MENU on the Installer Remote to access the Channel Label Editing Menu.

3. Follow the procedures below to edit icons and labels:

Changing a Channel’s Icon:

• Use Channel Up/Down to select the desired channel.

• Use the Left/Right arrow keys to select the thin letter “I” on the Channel-Time display.

• Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the desired icon. If you know the icon number, you can enter it directly and press OK.

Adding/Editing Channel Labels:

• Use Channel Up/Down to select the desired channel.

• Press the Left or Right arrow repeatedly until the numbers 1 to 7 appear. This number shows the character position you can change.

• Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the desired character.

• Proceed to the next character position or the next channel.

Adding/Editing Source Labels (for Aux inputs):

• Press CH. BANK to select the desired Aux input source (AV1, RGB, HDMI1, etc.).

• Follow the same steps as for channel labels to edit the text.

4. To exit the menu when you are done, press MENU.

Channel Banks allow you to create tiered channel programming. Note that channel banks are not supported on TVs in FTG Mode, and Installer Menu item 028 CH. OVERIDE must be set to 1 to allow access for setup.

Accessing the Channel Preview/Banks Setup Menu:

1. Press CH. BANK on the Installer Remote repeatedly until the desired channel bank (1, 2, 3, or 4) is selected.

2. After selecting the bank, press CH. PREVIEW on the Installer Remote to display the Channel Preview/Banks Setup Menu.

Changing Channel Status:

In the Setup Menu, use the Channel Up/Down arrows to navigate to a channel and the Left/Right arrows to select the channel status within the current bank.

• NORMAL-ADDED: Channel will appear in the currently selected channel bank.

• NORMAL-DELETED: Channel will not appear in the currently selected channel bank.

• BLANK-ADDED: Channel will appear in all banks with audio but no picture.

• BLANK-DELETED: Channel will not appear in the current bank, and will be BLANK-ADDED in all other banks.

Creating an Inactive TV Display:

To create an “Inactive TV” message on Channel Bank 4, you can either:

• Select NORMAL-DELETED for each channel in Channel Bank 4.

• Or, press CH. BANK until Bank 4 is selected, press CH. PREVIEW to open the menu, then press the SAP key to automatically delete all channels in that bank.

Cloning with a TLX file copies Installer Menu settings, IP Environment Menu settings, and all TV sources’ clonable setup menu settings. Ensure both Master and Target TVs are identical models and in Pass-through Mode.

Learn Setup from Master TV (Saving settings to USB)

1. Ensure the Master TV is fully set up and in Pass-through Mode.

2. Insert a FAT-formatted USB device into the Master TV.

3. Press MENU, navigate to the Option menu icon, and press “7” seven times to open the TV Manager.

4. Key in 9-8-7-6 on the remote to access the “Learn From TV” options.

5. Select Learn From TV (TLX) and press OK.

6. In the next window, you can change the last five digits of the filename. Press OK to start the learning process. Do not remove the USB device until it is complete.

7. When done, exit the menu and remove the USB device.

Teach Master TV Setup to Target TV (Loading settings from USB)

1. Turn ON the Target TV. Ensure it is in Pass-through Mode. If the Express Script wizard appears, exit it.

2. Access the Target TV’s Installer Menu, set item 117 FACT DEFAULT to 1, and press OK to restore factory defaults. Press OK again to exit the menu.

3. If using TV Zoning, assign the correct Zone # to the Target TV now.

4. Insert the USB device with the TLX file into the Target TV’s USB port.

5. Press MENU, navigate to the Option menu icon, and press “7” seven times to open the TV Manager.

6. Select Teach To TV (TLX) and press OK.

7. In the next window, select the Master TV Setup file you want to install.

8. Press OK to begin the teaching process. Do not remove the USB device until it is complete.

9. When done, remove the USB device and verify the settings on the Target TV.

Cloning with a TLL file copies the commercial controller (PTC) memory, which includes the channel lineup, Installer Menu settings, and one TV source’s setup menu settings. Ensure both Master and Target TVs are identical models and in Pass-through Mode.

Learn Setup from Master TV (Saving settings to USB)

1. Ensure the Master TV is fully set up, including transferring the channel map to the PTC (using the 2-5-5 + MENU command).

2. Insert a FAT-formatted USB device into the Master TV.

3. Tune the Target TV to an analog or digital channel or Aux input that matches the source used on the Master TV during the PTC transfer step (2-5-5 + MENU).

4. Insert the USB device with the TLL file into the Target TV’s USB port.

5. Press MENU, navigate to the Option menu icon, and press “7” seven times to open the TV Manager.

6. Select Teach To TV (TLL) and press OK.

7. In the next window, select the Master TV Setup file you want to install.

8. Press OK to begin the teaching process. Do not remove the USB device until it is complete.

9. When done, remove the USB device and verify the settings on the Target TV.

To configure a TV for FTG (Free-To-Guest) Mode, you need to transfer an FTG Configuration file (.tlx) from a USB memory device to the TV. This file can be created using the FTG File Manager software or Learned from a pre-configured Master TV.

Before You Begin:

• Ensure the USB device is formatted with FAT.

• If using the TV Zoning feature, make sure to assign the appropriate TV Zone # in the Target TV before starting.

Teaching the FTG Configuration:

1. Turn ON the Target TV. If the Express Script wizard appears, exit it.

2. If the TV is in Pass-through Mode and your .tlx file has a Zone assignment, set the same Zone designation in the Target TV.

3. Insert the USB memory device containing the FTG Configuration file into the TV’s USB port.

4. Press MENU on the Installer Remote. Navigate to the Option menu icon (in Pass-through Mode) or the Lock menu icon (in FTG Mode). Press the number “7” key seven times to open the TV Manager.

5. Select Teach To TV (TLX) and press OK.

6. In the Teach To TV (TLX) window, use the arrow keys to select the FTG Configuration file you want to install.

7. At the right side of the window, select the desired Channel Tuning / Channel Banner Display option. Press the green button for Logical tuning or the yellow button for Physical tuning.

8. Press OK to start the teaching process. Do not remove the USB device until it is complete.

9. After the “Teaching Completed” message appears, remove the USB device. The Target TV CPU is now in FTG Mode. Verify the configuration.

You can upgrade the TV (CPU) or PTC software using the TV Manager menu.

Before You Begin:

• Software upgrade files must be stored in a folder named “LG_DTV” in the root directory of the USB memory device.

• Ensure the USB device is formatted with FAT.

Upgrade Procedure:

1. Turn ON the TV, and then insert the USB memory device into the TV’s USB port.

2. Press MENU on the Installer Remote to display the TV setup menus or Function Menu.

3. Use the arrow navigation keys to select/highlight the Option menu icon (or Lock menu icon) and press the number “7” key seven times to display the TV Manager.

4. With the TV Manager menu on display, use the Up/Down arrow keys to select either Upgrade TV Software or Upgrade PTC Software, and then press OK.

5. In the next window, use the Up/Down arrow keys to highlight the update file to download. Then, press OK.

6. The TV will show update progress in a new window. Do NOT remove the USB device until the upgrade is complete. The TV will briefly display an “Updating complete” window and then restart automatically.

You can download a custom splash screen (the image that appears when the TV is turned on) using a USB memory device.

Image File Guidelines:

• The image must be a baseline (not progressive) JPEG.

• The image size should be no larger than 1 MB.

• The maximum resolution for the 42LY560M model is 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD).

• Avoid special characters (?, -, etc.) in the file name.

Download Procedure:

1. Store the splash screen image file in a folder named “LG_DTV” in the root directory of a FAT-formatted USB device.

2. Turn ON the TV and insert the USB device into the TV’s USB port.

3. Press MENU on the Installer Remote. Navigate to the Option menu icon (or Lock icon) and press “7” seven times to display the TV Manager.

4. In the TV Manager menu, use the arrow keys to select Logo Image Download, and then press OK.

5. In the Logo Image Download window, select the image file to download and press OK.

6. The TV will show download progress. Do NOT remove the USB device until the process is complete. The TV will display an “Updating complete” window and then restart automatically, after which the new splash screen will be visible.

There are different methods to restore factory defaults depending on the TV’s current mode.

If the TV is in Pass-through Mode:

• You can set Installer Menu item 117 FACT DEFAULT to 1. This restores the Installer Menu factory defaults and clears the channel lineup, including any assigned channel icons and custom text labels.

If the TV is in FTG Mode:

Restoring factory defaults will also reset the TV to Pass-through Mode.

• Factory “IN-STOP”: A predefined value for Installer Menu item 117 FACT DEFAULT can initiate a factory “IN-STOP” process that restores all factory defaults and reactivates the Express Script Installer Menu Wizard. Contact technical support for the required value.

• Using a “Zero Mapped Channels” file: You can create an FTG Configuration (.tlx) file with no channel data. “Teaching” this file to the TV will restore it to Pass-through Mode.

– This can be done locally by transferring the file from a USB memory device.

– If your system uses a Pro:Centric server, you can load the file on the server for remote management.

The TV Zoning feature allows you to create localized configurations for TVs in different areas (“Zones”). This is primarily used in FTG Mode but can also be used for cloning with a TLX file. To use this feature, you must set the Zone number in the TV itself.

Set the TV Zone # in the TV (must be in Pass-through Mode):

1. Turn ON the TV.

2. Press MENU on the Installer Remote, use the arrow navigation keys to highlight the OPTION menu icon, and press OK.

3. Use the Up/Down arrows to select Zone, and then press OK.

4. In the Zone pop-up window, use the Left/Right arrow keys to select the desired TV Zone # (1-8) for this TV. Then, press OK.

5. Press MENU to return to TV viewing.

Once the Zone is set, the TV will only accept configuration profiles (from an FTG or TLX file) that match its assigned Zone number. It will also omit any channels that have been restricted for its Zone in the FTG Channel Map.

Rear Panel

• UPDATE/RESET/SERVICE ONLY: Ports for software updates and service.

• MPI: For connecting an external MPI control device (e.g., VOD/PPV STB) when the TV is in Pass-through Mode.

• LAN: For network connection (e.g., for Pro:Centric data).

2. Use the arrow keys on the pillow speaker to highlight the desired menu option (e.g., Photo List), and then press Enter.

3. Within a media directory:

• Use the arrow keys to navigate between folders or files, and press Enter to open or play a selection.

• If there are multiple pages of content, use Channel Up/Down to move between pages.

• Additional options are listed at the bottom of the display, corresponding to number buttons on the pillow speaker (e.g., to change directories, mark files, etc.).

• To exit the Media Menu from within a directory, press 0 on the pillow speaker. To redisplay the menu, you must physically remove and reinsert the USB device.

• To exit the media playback or directory view entirely, press 0 or Return on the pillow speaker.

If you cannot direct enter a channel number, the cause depends on the TV’s operating mode:

• If the TV is in Pass-through Mode: This is likely because the channel lineup is locked (Installer Menu item 028 CH. OVERIDE is set to 0, or Channel Access was denied in the Express Script). In this case, only channels active in the lineup can be selected. To allow direct entry to all channels, set Installer Menu item 028 CH. OVERIDE to 1.

• If the TV is in FTG Mode: Channel access is restricted to channels included in the FTG Channel Map. If a channel is not in the map, it cannot be tuned. If necessary, you must use the FTG File Manager software to make changes to the FTG Channel Map.

This is typically because the Auto Tuning (Channel Search) was not run. Auto Tuning must be run in order for the channel lineup to be populated. If you used the Express Script wizard, you must select “Execute Auto Search” in the Auto Search screen to run the scan. If the wizard has already been completed, you may need to perform an “IN-STOP” to restore factory defaults on the TV to reactivate the Express Script.

If there is no picture:

• Possible Cause: TV is turned OFF. Solution: Turn the TV ON or check for a power failure.

• Possible Cause: Antenna/cable not connected. Solution: Connect the antenna/cable signal to the TV.

• Possible Cause: Connections incorrect. Solution: Check all connections on the TV.

• Possible Cause: MPI not connected. Solution: If applicable, connect the MPI cable to the MPI device.

• Possible Cause: Encrypted program. Solution: Try another channel.

If there is a normal picture but poor or no sound:

• Possible Cause: Wrong tuning band. Solution: Adjust Installer Menu settings.

• Possible Cause: Broadcast problem. Solution: Try a different channel.

• Possible Cause: Audio muted. Solution: Press MUTE or use the Volume Up key to increase the sound level.

• Possible Cause: Pillow/TV speaker not configured properly. Solution: Check that Installer Menu items 020 FEATURE LEVEL and 027 HOSPITAL MODE are set as required. If applicable, select TV Speaker in the Audio Menu.

If your installer remote is not working, try the following solutions:

• Remote not in TV Mode: Depending on the remote used, you may need to press a MODE key to put the remote into TV Mode.

• Not aimed at IR sensor: Point the remote directly at the TV’s IR receiver.

• Too far from IR sensor: Move the remote closer to the TV’s IR receiver or darken the room.

• IR path obstructed: Remove any obstructions between the remote and the TV.

• Weak batteries: Replace the batteries.

• Wrong battery polarity: Check that the “+” and “-” symbols match in the battery compartment.

• Too much light in the room: Dim the room light.

• Remote IR codes do not match TV setting: Ensure the Installer Remote is compatible. Check the settings in both the TV and on the remote. The IR codes sent by the remote must match the setting(s) in the TV.

Follow these steps to determine if the TV is in Commercial Mode:

1. Press POWER on the Installer Remote.

2. Did the TV turn ON? If yes, proceed to step 3. If no, check if the TV is connected to AC power. If it is connected and still won’t turn on, the TV may be faulty.

3. Leave the TV on and press MENU on the Installer Remote.

4. Does the “Function Menu” appear on the display? If yes, the TV is in Commercial Mode.

5. If the Function Menu did not appear, press MENU repeatedly as if to access the Installer Menu. Does the on-screen menu display stop toggling on and off? If yes, the TV is in Commercial Mode.

6. If the menu display continues to toggle or never appeared, the TV is not in Commercial Mode. Call Technical Support for assistance.

Here are common issues and solutions for Channel Banks setup:

Symptom: Cannot change channel status in the menu.

Possible Cause: Channel Access was denied in Express Script and/or Installer Menu item 028 CH. OVERIDE is set to 0.

Solution: Set CH. OVERIDE to 1 to allow access for channel status change.

Symptom: Channel Preview/Banks Setup Menu does not appear.

Possible Cause: Express Script wizard or the 2-5-5 + MENU command (Custom Master TV Setup) was not completed.

Solution: The menu will not be available until the TV setup is transferred to the PTC. Also, ensure Installer Menu item 028 CH. OVERIDE is set to 1.

Symptom: “Inactive TV” message appears and then TV turns OFF.

Possible Cause: The TV is set up to display the “Inactive TV” message because all channels are “NORMAL-DELETED” in Channel Bank 4.

Solution: Select another channel bank (1, 2, or 3) to return the TV to normal operation.

Symptom: When BANK on Installer Remote is pressed, TV shows Input List Menu.

Possible Cause: Installer Menu item 027 HOSPITAL MODE is set to 0.

Solution: Set item 027 to the appropriate setting for channel banks to appear with BANK key presses.
