Note: The LENOVO SMART TAB M8 TB-8505XS supports LTE Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 19, 38, 40, but in some countries LTE is not supported. To know if your device works with LTE networks in your country, contact your carrier.

The Lenovo Help app provides support for getting direct access to Lenovo’s web assistance and forums, frequent Q&A, system upgrades, hardware function tests, warranty status checks, service requests, and repair status. Some features require a data network connection and may not be available in all countries.

You have two ways to get the app:

1. Search for and download the app from Google Play.

2. Scan the QR code in the “Basics” section of the user guide with a Lenovo Android device.

You can customize your home screen at any time.

Add a widget to a home screen:

Press and hold anywhere on the home screen except the icons. Tap the icon for “Home settings”, press and hold it to enter. Tap the widgets icon, press and hold the widget you want to add, then drag it to where you want to place it, and release.

Change the wallpaper:

Go to Settings > Display > Wallpaper and choose your preferred wallpaper. Alternatively, press and hold anywhere on the home screen, tap the wallpapers icon, and then choose your preferred wallpaper.

Move an app to another screen:

Press and hold an app that you want to move, drag it to where you want to place it, then release.

Uninstall an app:

1. Press and hold the app that you want to uninstall.

2. Drag it to the uninstall icon, and then release and tap OK.

Note: Some system apps cannot be uninstalled.

Swipe up from the bottom of your screen to see recent apps. Then you can do the following:

• Swipe left or right to switch to the app you want to open.

• Swipe an app window up to close it.

• Swipe up from the bottom and click “clear all” in the middle to stop running all applications.

You can perform the following actions:

• To see notifications, swipe down from the top of the screen.

• To close the Notifications panel, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

• To dismiss a notification, swipe left or right across the notification.

• To dismiss all notifications, tap CLEAR ALL at the bottom of the Notifications panel.

• To open the Quick Settings panel, swipe down from the top of the screen twice.

• To close the Quick Settings panel, swipe up from the bottom of the screen.

To force the device to turn off, press and hold the Power button for about 8 seconds until it shuts down. To reboot, press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds.

There are three user types:

• Owner: An owner has full control over all user permissions and manages all user accounts.

• Guest: There is only one Guest account. A Guest has restricted access to the device.

• New User: There can be multiple user accounts, including accounts for standard users and child users. A standard user can manage child user accounts. In child user accounts, there are many child-friendly apps available including videos, games, music and more.

Creating new user accounts:

Tap Settings > Users & accounts > Multiple users > ADD USER to create user accounts.

• Tap ADD USER > User icon > CONTINUE to create a standard user account.

• Tap ADD USER > Child user icon > CONTINUE to create a child user. Note: Before you add a child user account, you need to set up a screen lock to protect your apps and personal data.

Switching between user accounts:

On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen, and then tap the users icon to switch between different user accounts.

Deleting a user account:

Tap Settings > Users & accounts > Multiple users, tap the settings icon located beside the account you would like to delete, then tap DELETE USER > DELETE.

Adding a face-recognition profile:

Go to Settings > Security & location > Face-recognition, and follow the instructions on the screen. Note that a lock screen pattern, PIN, or password is required to use face-recognition-related functions.

Deleting facial data:

1. Go to Settings > Security & location > Face-recognition > Delete facial data.

2. Confirm your screen lock pattern or enter your PIN or password.

3. Tap OK.

Other users can also set their own face data based on the above operations.

To open the Camera app, go to Camera.

Taking photos and videos:

• Tap the shutter icon to take a photo.

• Tap the record icon to record a video.

• Tap the switch camera icon to switch between the front and the rear camera.

Taking screenshots:

Press and hold the Power and the Volume down buttons at the same time to take a screenshot.

Viewing pictures, videos, and screenshots:

Photos, videos, and screenshots are stored in your device’s internal storage. You can view them by using the following methods:

• Tap the thumbnail when using the Camera app.

• Go to Photos.

• Go to Files.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > WLAN. Turn on the WLAN switch and tap a WLAN hotspot in the list to connect to the Internet. When you are connecting to a secure hotspot, you need to enter your login name and password to connect.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Data usage. Note: You need a valid SIM card with a data service. If you don’t have a SIM card, contact your carrier.

Ask the network’s administrator for the settings necessary to configure a VPN for your network.

1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > VPN.

2. Tap the plus icon to edit the VPN profile, including the server name, type, and server address, and then tap SAVE.

3. Tap the VPN server name, enter the username and password, and then tap CONNECT to connect to the VPN network.

4. Tap the settings icon to edit or FORGET VPN.

Note: You need to set a lock screen pattern, PIN or password before using a VPN. Go to Settings > Security & location > Screen lock to select a screen lock option and set up the screen lock.

You can use a personal hotspot to share an Internet connection with a computer or other device.

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & Tethering and do the following:

• Tap WLAN hotspot to configure the hotspot.

• You can also use Bluetooth tethering.

Note: Tell your friends the Network name and password, and then they can connect to your mobile network.

To open the browser app, go to Chrome.

• Type a web address: You don’t need to type the full web address of an “http://” website to access it. Simply type the address (e.g., “www.lenovo.com”) into the address bar and tap the Go arrow.

• Search for keywords: Type keywords into the address bar to search for webpages. You can set a search engine in the three-dot menu > Settings > Search engine.

• Add a new webpage: Tap the three-dot menu > New tab to add a new webpage tab. To visit a website without leaving traces, tap the three-dot menu > New incognito tab.

• Close a webpage: Tap X to close a webpage tab.

• Refresh a webpage: Tap the circular arrow icon to refresh a webpage. Tap the left arrow to return to the previous page and the right arrow to go forward to a recent page.

• Save images: Press and hold an image, then tap Download image.

• Bookmark webpages: Tap the star icon to add a webpage to Bookmarks. Tap the three-dot menu > Bookmarks to view bookmarks.

Set up Google Assistant:

To open the Google Assistant, touch and hold the Home button, tap “Sign In”, and follow the on-screen prompts to set it up. Say “OK Google” and “Hey Google” when prompted to teach the Google Assistant to recognize your voice and complete the setup process.

Use Google Assistant’s Ambient Mode:

Ensure your device is connected to the Internet and you are signed in with a Google account. When your device’s screen is off or locked, put the tablet into the cradle. A notification will pop up. Tap this notification to set up Ambient Mode. Ambient Mode can turn your tablet into a digital photo frame, control music and smart home devices, and give you access to important updates.

You can also enable Google Assistant’s Ambient Mode by going to Google App > More > Settings > Google Assistant > Assistant > Tablet to enable Ambient Mode.

To access the Gmail app, go to Gmail. You can sign into Gmail if you have a Gmail account. If not, you will need to create one. You can also sign in with email accounts provided by other companies. After setting up your account, you can use the Gmail app to send and receive emails.

First, go to Settings > Security & location > Location and enable location access for Google apps.

• Finding a location: Open Maps and type the address that you want to find, then press Search here. You can also tap the microphone icon to speak the address you want to search for.

• Current location: Tap the target icon to see your current location.

• Planning a route: Tap the GO icon and type in “Your location” and “Choose destination”, or just choose the starting point as “Your location”. Choose the travel mode: by car, by bus, by bike or on foot.

Connect your device and computer using a USB cable. Slide down from the top of the screen and you will see “Charging this device via USB” in the notifications bar. Tap this notification to view other options.

You can select one of the following computer connection modes:

• File transfer: Select this mode if you want to transfer media files such as photos, videos, and ringtones between your tablet and computer.

• PTP: Select this mode if you only want to transfer only photos and videos between your tablet and computer.

• No data transfer: Select this mode if you only want to charge the machine.

• MIDI: Select this mode if you want MIDI-enabled apps on your device to work with MIDI software on the computer.

• USB tethering: Choose this mode if you want to provide the network to other devices via a data cable.

1. Go to Settings > System > Languages & input > Languages > Add a language.

2. Select the language that you want to add.

3. Press and hold the two horizontal lines icon next to the added language to drag it to the first line.

Setting screen lock:

Go to Settings > Security & location > Screen lock, and select a screen lock mode.

Setting sound:

Go to Settings > Sound. Here you can set the ringtone, default notification sound, default alarm sound, and so on. You can also set the ringing volume.

Battery protection mode protects the battery from being overly charged, which can expose the battery to high temperatures and high voltage that may cause it to age faster. When the tablet is plugged in, battery protection mode will keep the power level between 40% and 60%.

To enable it, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Protection mode to turn on the battery protection mode.

A factory reset will erase all data from your tablet’s internal storage. Please back up important data on the device before resetting your tablet.

Go to Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data (factory reset), then tap RESET TABLET to reset to the manufacturer’s default settings.

Please free up some memory and try to install the app again.

Please press and hold the On/Off button for more than 10 seconds until the device turns off. Then switch it on again in the normal way.

Please charge the battery for half an hour and then press and hold the On/Off button for more than 10 seconds until the device turns off. Then switch it on again in the normal way.

Restart the wireless router or go to Settings and restart WLAN.
