The IDEAL 2245 document shredder is intended for shredding paper. Using other materials may cause damage to the shredder.

The hardened solid steel blade shafts of the IDEAL 2245 are insensitive to small amounts of paper clips and staples. However, this does not apply to models with 0.8 x 12 mm and smaller particle cut. For those models, the paper to be shred must not contain any paper clips or staples.

Depending on the specific device model of the IDEAL 2245, small amounts of CDs, credit and customer cards, as well as discs can also be shred. Suitability depends on the output and cutting geometry of your specific model.

Please strictly follow these safety instructions when using the IDEAL 2245:

• Read the operating manual before starting the machine for the first time.

• Take care of long hair.

• Do not grasp into the cutting mechanism.

• Take care of ties and other loose pieces of clothing.

• Be aware of moving parts.

• This device is not suited for use by children or at locations where children might be present.

• Do not destroy accumulators or batteries.

• Do not use any spray cans with flammable content near the shredder.

• Do not use any flammable cleaning agents.

• Be cautious of parts with sharp corners and edges.

• Remove the plug from the mains before cleaning the machine.

• Do not perform any repairs on the document shredder yourself.

• Ensure free access to the mains plug.

• Do not operate the machine without the safety flap (A).

The IDEAL 2245 features an automatic standby that switches the machine off after 15 minutes of inactivity. The green LED control light will turn off, and there will be no more power consumption. Within these 15 minutes before switching off, the IDEAL 2245 uses 0,650 Wh of energy.

To set up your IDEAL 2245, follow these two steps:

1. Place the machine head onto the shred bin.

2. Plug the power cord into the wall socket.

To operate the IDEAL 2245, follow these steps:

1. Press the rocker switch quickly: The green light will turn on, indicating the machine is ready for operation.

2. Insert paper: The machine will start shredding automatically when paper is inserted.

The machine stops automatically when no more paper is inserted. It will then enter automatic standby and switch off completely after 15 minutes. You can also switch the machine off at any time by pressing the switch (this is not possible when the machine is in reverse motion). When the green LED control light is off, there is no power consumption.

To clear remaining paper in the inlet shaft, press and hold the switch. The machine will start and shred the remaining paper without contacting the light beam. Afterward, it will resume automatic start mode when you insert new paper.

The IDEAL 2245 stops automatically if too much paper is inserted. It will go into automatic reverse, and the “ON/OFF” button will light up red.

1. Remove the paper that caused the jam.

2. Re-feed the paper in smaller quantities.

To manually clear a jam, you can interrupt the shredding procedure:

1. Press the green button. The machine will stop, and the button will turn red.

2. Press the red button for any length of time. The machine will run in reverse, and the button will flash green.

3. Remove the paper.

4. The machine is now ready for operation again.

You should empty the shred bin when it is full. To do so:

1. Unplug the machine from the power outlet.

2. Lift the shredder head off the bin.

3. Empty the bin.

4. Place the shredder head back onto the empty bin.

You should oil the shredding mechanism if you notice the sheet capacity reduces or after the shred bin is emptied. For a straight cut model, use the oiler (A). For a particle cut model, use either the oiler (A) or oil sheets (B).

From time to time, clean the output area of the cutting head. To do this safely:

• Disconnect the machine from the mains.

• Remove paper debris with a brush.

Be aware of the risk of injury from sharp parts.

If your IDEAL 2245 will not start, check the following:

• Is the machine plugged in?

• Is the machine placed correctly on the shred bin?

• Is the “ON/OFF” button pressed? The green LED lamp should light up.

• Have you inserted paper? Make sure to feed the paper into the center of the feed opening to activate the photo cell.

If the IDEAL 2245 continues to run and will not stop, the photo cell (A) may be dirty. To fix this, remove the power plug and clean the photo cell with a small brush.

If the IDEAL 2245 switches off, it may be due to the protection against overload. Please let the machine cool down before using it again.

To ensure trouble-free operation, empty the shred bins in sufficient time (at least daily) so that no interference is caused to the cutting heads. If a paper jam occurs because of an overfilled shred bin and cannot be corrected as described on page 10 of the manual, the shred bin must be emptied.

For the IDEAL 2245, the recommended accessory is environmentally friendly oil (10 x 0.2 litre), order number 9000 611.

For the IDEAL 2245 CC, recommended accessories are oil sheets (18 Sheets), order number 9000 631, or the oil mentioned above.

Please respect local regulations for waste disposal. Hand in the non-working IDEAL 2245 electrical equipment to an appropriate waste disposal center.

The packaging material is recyclable. Dispose of the packaging in an environmentally friendly manner and make it available for the recyclable material collection service. Please think of the environment and dispose of shredded CDs, cards, and other data media separately from shredded paper.
