The HK AUDIO POLAR 10 MK2 system comes in two cartons. The contents include:

Follow these steps to set up your HK AUDIO POLAR 10 MK2:

1. Place the subwoofer on a level, stable surface.

2. Plug the spacer into the subwoofer’s plug-in base using the integrated signal-carrying connector.

3. Attach the mid/high unit to the spacer using the same connector system. This provides both a mechanical and electrical connection, so no speaker cables are needed.

4. Ensure all three elements (subwoofer, spacer, mid/high unit) are firmly connected to each other.

5. Plug the power cord into the mains socket on the rear of the subwoofer.

Good to know: You can set the system up without the spacer if you wish to place it on a high stage, table, or similar elevated surface.

Important: Do not transport or move the POLAR system when it is assembled, as this could cause damage to the system, property, or result in personal injury.

The performance of the HK AUDIO POLAR 10 MK2 may be affected by strong electromagnetic fields or electrostatic discharges. If this occurs, you can restore its functionality by switching it off and on again. If this does not resolve the issue, you will need to move the device away from the source of the interference.

To run two HK AUDIO POLAR 10 MK2 systems in stereo, route the mixing console’s left channel to the system on the left and its right channel to the system on the right. Ensure that the DSP settings for Mode, EQ, Delay, and other parameters are identical for both systems.

The HK AUDIO POLAR 10 MK2’s Delay function allows it to be used as a delay line in a distributed sound system. To do this, measure the distance in meters between the main speaker and the POLAR system. Enter this number into the “Delay” setting in the DSP menu. The system will automatically calculate the correct delay time and render the signal with the proper delay to sync up with the main PA.

The mixer panel provides control over four channels and master settings:

Channel 1 and Channel 2 (Line/Mic):

• Input (3): A balanced XLR/jack combo input socket for microphones or line-level instruments like keyboards. A balanced signal is preferable to reduce interference.

• Line/Mic Switch (4): Adjusts the input sensitivity. Set to “Line” for devices like mixing consoles or keyboards. Set to “Mic” for a dynamic microphone.

• Volume (5): Adjusts the signal level for the channel. Turn left to mute, right for maximum volume.

Channel 3 (Instrument):

• Input (6): An unbalanced 1/4″ (6.35 mm) jack for high-impedance (Hi-Z) instruments like electric guitars, acoustic guitars, or electric pianos.

• Volume (7): Adjusts the signal level for the channel.

Channel 4 (Aux + Bluetooth):

• Input (8): Unbalanced 2x RCA jacks for connecting high-level stereo sources like CD/MP3 players, smartphones, or DJ mixers.

• Volume (9): Adjusts the signal level for both the Aux and Bluetooth inputs simultaneously.

Master Controls:

• Sub (10): A rotary control to adjust the bass level of the system. Turn left to mute the subwoofer, turn right for maximum volume. The 0 dB position provides a balanced volume ratio between the column and the subwoofer.

• Mix Out (11): A balanced XLR output that provides a summed signal (a mix of all input channels). This can be used to send the signal to a Front of House mixer, an additional monitor speaker, or a recording device.

• Master (13): Adjusts the system’s overall volume from -60 to +10 dB. Push this knob to enter and edit DSP settings.

In normal operating mode, the LCD display shows the individual input channels’ levels and the Master volume.

Level Indicators: The four level indicators show the input channels’ levels. The “Overload” section at the top of an indicator lights up if the incoming signal is too high and saturating the input. If the Overload indicator lights up, turn down the channel’s input gain or the connected device’s output level.

DSP Mode: When you press the Master knob, the display switches to DSP mode and shows the parameters of the currently selected DSP menu.

To dial in the proper signal levels and minimize noise, follow this procedure:

1. Turn up the input channel’s volume until the Overload indicator lights up at the loudest signal peak.

2. Back the channel volume off just enough so the Overload indicator no longer lights up.

3. Use the Master knob to set the overall system volume to the desired level.

To lock the display and prevent changes to the DSP settings, press and hold the Master knob. The word “Locked” will appear on the display. To unlock it, press and hold the Master knob again.

The USB-C port is used to maintain the charge of mobile devices such as mobile phones or tablets. It can also charge small wireless systems with plug-on transmitters. Note that no media can be played via the USB-C port, and it is not a service socket.

1. Press the Master knob once to enter the DSP menu. “BT ON/OFF” will be displayed.

2. Press the Master knob again to select this option.

3. Turn the Master knob to select “ON” and press the knob to start the Bluetooth setup. The Bluetooth icon on the display will flash slowly for 120 seconds, indicating it is discoverable.

4. On your smartphone or tablet, go to the Bluetooth menu and select “HK Audio POLAR 10/12 MK2” to pair the devices.

5. The Bluetooth icon will light up continuously on the POLAR MK2 display once the devices are successfully paired.

The display indicates the Bluetooth status as follows:

• No Bluetooth icon: Bluetooth is turned off.

• Icon flashes slowly: The system is in pairing mode. You have 120 seconds to pair a device.

• Icon lights up continuously: Bluetooth is successfully connected to a device.

• Icon flashes quickly: Bluetooth pairing has failed or the connection has been dropped (e.g., the device is out of range).

1. First, establish a regular Bluetooth connection to one HK AUDIO POLAR 10 MK2 system as described previously.

2. On this connected system, go to the DSP menu, select “BT ON/OFF”, turn the Master knob to select “TWS”, and press to confirm. The Bluetooth icon and the word “TWS” will flash on the display.

3. On the second HK AUDIO POLAR 10 MK2 system, go to the DSP menu, select “BT ON/OFF”, select “TWS”, and press to confirm.

4. The two systems will now connect to each other. This process can take approximately 15 seconds. A successful connection is indicated by “TWS” lighting up continuously on the displays of both systems. Ensure the channel inputs and Master levels are the same on both units.

If the Bluetooth icon flashes quickly: Check if your Bluetooth device is within range, if Bluetooth is enabled on it, and if “POLAR” is selected in its list of devices. If the POLAR system does not appear in the list, try the pairing process again.

Automatic Reconnection: When you switch the POLAR system on, it will automatically search for the most recently connected device for 120 seconds. If it fails to connect, you can restart the search by switching the POLAR system off and on again, or by manually starting the search via the “BT ON/OFF” menu.

Switching Devices: You cannot switch to another device while one is already paired. You must use the “BT ON/OFF” function to disconnect the current device before connecting a new one.

Audio Stutters or Drops: Audio streaming via Bluetooth requires a constant data stream. For best results, ensure there is a direct line-of-sight between your Bluetooth device and the POLAR system. Walls or protective covers can impede the signal.

Press the Master knob to enter the DSP menu. Turn the knob to navigate through options and press it to select or confirm an entry. The system will automatically exit the menu after eight seconds of inactivity.

System EQ:

A three-band EQ to tune the overall sound. The EQ settings only affect the speaker output, not the Mix Out.

• Hi EQ: Boosts or cuts high frequencies (+/-12 dB at 12 kHz).

• Mid EQ: Boosts or cuts midrange frequencies (+/-12 dB).

• Mid Freq: Sets the center frequency for the Mid EQ (70 Hz – 12 kHz).

• Low EQ: Boosts or cuts low frequencies (+/-12 dB at 70 Hz).

Mode:

Three preprogrammed modes to suit the application.

• Music: The default setting, suitable for live applications and most music playback.

• Voice: Optimized for the human voice, ideal for speaking engagements.

• DJ: The best choice for playing electronic music.

Delay:

Delays the audio playback. Set the delay distance from 0 (off) to 100 meters in 0.25-meter increments.

PH Power (Phantom Power):

Activates phantom voltage on Channel 1 and Channel 2 for condenser microphones. “Ph.ON” appears on the display when active.

The system has five memory slots (U1 to U5) for storing your personal DSP settings (mode, EQ, delay, display settings, etc.).

Load Preset:

1. In the DSP menu, select “Load Preset”.

2. Turn the Master knob to select the preset you wish to load (U1-U5).

3. Press the knob to load the selected preset.

Store Preset:

1. In the DSP menu, select “Store Preset”.

2. Turn the Master knob to select the desired memory slot (U1-U5) and press to confirm.

3. A text editor box will appear. Press the knob to select the first character space, then turn to select a letter/character. Press again to move to the next space. When done, press the knob twice to exit the text box.

4. Turn the knob to navigate to “Save” and press to store the preset.

Erase Preset:

1. In the DSP menu, select “Erase Preset”.

2. Select the preset you wish to delete.

3. A confirmation prompt “Confirm Erase: Yes/No” will appear.

4. Turn the knob to select “Yes” and press to confirm. This irrevocably deletes the preset.

In the DSP menu, navigate to the Display settings:

• LCD Dim: Select “On” if you want the display to dim eight seconds after the last operation. Select “Off” (default) to keep the display constantly bright.

• Brightness: Adjusts the display’s brightness from 0 to 10 (default: 5).

• Contrast: Adjusts the display’s contrast from 0 to 10 (default: 5).

1. In the DSP menu, select “Factory Reset”.

2. Press the Master knob. A security prompt “Confirm Reset: Yes/No” will appear.

3. Turn the knob to select “Yes” and press to confirm.

This will irrevocably reset all DSP functions to their factory defaults, set the mode to “Music”, sever any Bluetooth connection, and erase all five user presets.

The following accessories are available:

• POLAR MK2 Subwoofer Cover: A padded cover to protect the subwoofer during transport. This is included with the product.

• POLAR MK2 Column Carry Bag: A practical bag to protect the mid/high unit and spacer during transport. This is included with the product.

• POLAR MK2 Wheel Board: A wheel board to help transport your POLAR MK2 system.

• SONAR 115 Sub D: An additional powered subwoofer to add more power to the low end.

You can add one or two SONAR 115 Sub D units to your setup.

For a stereo setup with two POLAR 10 MK2 systems and two SONAR 115 Sub D subwoofers:

1. Connect the left output of your mixer to the input of the first SONAR 115 Sub D.

2. Connect the “Thru” output of that SONAR sub to the input of the left POLAR 10 MK2 system.

3. Connect the right output of your mixer to the input of the second SONAR 115 Sub D.

4. Connect the “Thru” output of that second SONAR sub to the input of the right POLAR 10 MK2 system.

For a stereo setup with two POLAR 10 MK2 systems and one SONAR 115 Sub D subwoofer:

1. Connect the left output of your mixer to the input of the left POLAR 10 MK2 system.

2. Connect the right output of your mixer to the input of the SONAR 115 Sub D.

3. Connect the “Thru” output of the SONAR sub to the input of the right POLAR 10 MK2 system.
