The GARMIN NUVI 1410 includes the following features:

Device Components:

Power button: Press to turn the GARMIN NUVI 1410 on and off.

Speaker: Provides audio prompts and sounds.

Mini-USB connector: Port for power and data connection.

microSD™ card slot: For adding maps or other data.

Microphone: For hands-free calling.

Main Menu Icons:

1. GPS satellite strength: Indicates the current strength of the GPS signal.

2. Bluetooth technology status: Shows if a Bluetooth device is connected.

3. Usage mode: Touch to select a usage mode (e.g., Automobile, Pedestrian).

4. Current time: Touch to change time settings.

5. Battery status: Shows the current battery level.

6. Where To?: Touch to find a destination.

7. View Map: Touch to view the map.

8. Phone: Touch to make a call when connected to a compatible mobile phone.

9. Volume: Touch to adjust the volume.

10. Tools: Touch to use tools such as settings and Help.

Follow these steps to mount your GARMIN NUVI 1410:

1. Remove the clear plastic from the suction cup. Place the suction cup on the windshield.

2. Flip the lever back toward the windshield to secure the suction cup.

3. Snap the cradle onto the suction cup arm.

4. Plug the vehicle power cable into the back of your GARMIN NUVI 1410.

5. Plug the other end of the vehicle power cable into a power outlet in your vehicle. Your unit should turn on automatically if it is plugged in and the vehicle is running. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Fit the bottom of your GARMIN NUVI 1410 into the cradle.

7. Tilt your GARMIN NUVI 1410 back until it snaps into place.

WARNING: This product contains a lithium-ion battery. To prevent damage, remove the unit from the vehicle when exiting or store it out of direct sunlight.

1. Go outdoors to an open area, away from tall buildings and trees.

2. Turn on your GARMIN NUVI 1410.

Acquiring satellite signals can take a few minutes. The green bars on the main menu indicate satellite strength. When at least one of the bars is green, your GARMIN NUVI 1410 has acquired satellite signals.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1410 offers several usage modes (Automobile, Pedestrian, Bicycle). Routing is calculated differently based on your usage mode.

1. From the Main menu, touch the usage mode icon on the upper-left corner.

2. Select a mode, and touch OK.

3. Touch Yes, and follow the on-screen instructions to configure your settings.

Press and quickly release the Power button to view additional options:

• Touch the brightness icons to adjust the screen brightness.

• Touch Lock Screen to prevent accidental screen touches.

• Touch Power Off to turn off your GARMIN NUVI 1410.

You can also turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1410 by holding the power button for approximately three seconds.

If your GARMIN NUVI 1410 stops functioning, reset it by pressing and holding the Power button.

1. From the main menu, touch Where To?.

2. Select a category (e.g., Address, Points of Interest).

3. Select a subcategory if necessary.

4. Select a destination from the list.

5. Touch Go! to begin navigation.

Adding a Stop:

1. While navigating a route, touch the screen, then touch Where To?.

2. Search for the extra stop.

3. Touch Go!.

4. Touch Add as Via Point to add this stop before your final destination.

Changing Destinations:

1. While navigating a route, touch the screen, then touch Where To?.

2. Search for the extra stop.

3. Touch Go!.

4. Touch Set as New Destination to make this your final destination.

Taking a Detour:

1. While navigating a route, touch the detour icon.

If the route you are currently taking is the only reasonable option, the GARMIN NUVI 1410 might not calculate a detour.

Stopping the Route:

1. With a route active, touch Menu.

2. Touch Stop.

1. Touch Where To? > Address.

2. Change the state, country, or province, if necessary.

3. Touch Search All. If you know the city, touch Spell City, enter the city/postal code, and touch Done. Select it from the list.

4. Enter the number of the address, and touch Done.

5. Enter the street name, and touch Done.

6. Select the correct street in the list, if necessary.

7. Touch the address, if necessary.

Setting a Home Location:

1. Touch Where To? > Go Home.

2. Select an option:

• Enter your address.

• Use your current location.

• Choose from a list of recently found locations.

Going Home:

To navigate home after you have set your home location, touch Where To? > Go Home.

After you have selected a location to navigate to, the Go! page opens with these options:

1. Information Box: Touch to view more information for the location.

2. Zoom: Touch + and – to zoom in and out.

3. Call: Touch to call this location when connected to a phone.

4. Save: Touch to save this location to your Favorites.

5. Go!: Touch to create a turn-by-turn route to this location.

6. Back Arrow: Touch to return to the previous page. Touch and hold to return to the Main menu.

Saving a Place You Find:

1. From the Go! page, touch Save.

2. Touch OK. The place is saved in Favorites.

Saving Your Current Location:

From the Map page, touch the vehicle icon, then touch Save Location.

Editing Saved Places (Favorites):

1. Touch Where To? > Favorites.

2. Select the category and the location you want to edit.

3. Touch Edit.

4. Touch an item to edit:

• Change Name: enter a new name, and touch Done.

• Attach Photo: select a picture to assign to the location.

• Change Map Symbol: touch a new symbol to mark this location on the map.

• Change Phone Number: enter a phone number, and touch Done.

• Change Categories: select another category for the location.

• Delete: touch Yes to remove this item from the Favorites list.

1. Touch Tools > Routes > New.

2. Touch Add New Start Point.

3. Find a location as your starting point, and touch Select.

4. Touch Add New End Point.

5. Find a location as your ending point, and touch Select.

6. Touch the + button to add another location (via point) to your route. Touch – to remove a location.

7. Touch Next to calculate your route and view it on the map.

8. Touch Save to save the route and exit.

You can save up to 10 routes. To start navigation for a saved route, touch Where to? > Routes, select the route, and touch Go!.

The map page on your GARMIN NUVI 1410 displays your route with a magenta line. It provides voice prompts and on-screen directions.

1. Next Turn Indicator: Touch to view the next turn in detail.

2. Turn List: Touch the text bar at the top of the map to view the full turn list.

3. Zoom Controls: Touch to zoom in and out.

4. Back Arrow: Touch to return to the Main menu.

5. Data Field: Touch to display a different data field (e.g., Arrival Time, Distance to Destination).

6. Vehicle Icon: Touch to view the Where Am I? page.

7. Speed Field: Touch to view the trip computer. This field also displays the current speed limit on major roadways.

The GARMIN NUVI 1410 also includes Lane Assist, which shows you which lane to be in for your next maneuver.

To pair and connect, your phone and the GARMIN NUVI 1410 must be turned on and within 33 ft. (10 m) of each other.

1. From the Main menu, touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth > Add.

2. Enable the Bluetooth component on your phone, and enable Find Me/Discoverable/Visible mode. These settings might be in a Bluetooth, a Connections, or a Hands-free menu on your phone.

3. Touch OK on the GARMIN NUVI 1410.

4. Select your phone from the list, and touch OK.

5. Enter the nüvi Bluetooth PIN (1234) in your phone.

Receiving a Call:

When you get a call, the Incoming Call window opens. Touch Answer to answer the call. Touch Ignore to ignore the call.

Making a Call:

From the Main menu, touch Phone to access the Phone menu. You can make calls by:

• Phone Book: Touch Phone > Phone Book, then select a contact and touch Call.

• Call History: Touch Phone > Call History, select an entry, and touch Dial.

• Points of Interest: Touch Phone > Points of Interest, search for a POI, and touch Call or the phone number.

• Dial: Touch Phone > Dial, enter the number, and touch Dial.

In a Call Options:

During a call, touch the screen to access options:

• End Call: Hangs up the call.

• Call Options > Touch Tones: Displays a keypad for automated systems.

• Call Options > Transfer Audio To Phone: Switches the audio to your phone for privacy.

• Call Options > Mute Microphone: Mutes your microphone.

Connecting to a Computer:

1. Insert a memory card (optional). Press it in until it clicks.

2. Connect the mini-USB connector to the back of the GARMIN NUVI 1410.

3. Connect the larger end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1410 and memory card appear as removable drives in My Computer (Windows) or as mounted volumes (Mac).

Transferring Files:

1. Browse your computer for the file you want to copy.

2. Highlight the file, and click Edit > Copy.

3. Open the “Garmin” or memory card drive/volume.

4. Click Edit > Paste. The file appears in the list of files on the device.

5. When you are finished, safely eject the device from your computer and unplug it.

The ecoRoute feature calculates your vehicle’s fuel economy, carbon footprint, and the fuel price of navigating to a destination. To access it, touch Tools > ecoRoute.

Set Up Vehicle Profile:

Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Vehicle Profile to enter:

• Fuel Type: Select a fuel type.

• City Fuel Efficiency: Enter the average city fuel efficiency for your vehicle.

• Hwy Fuel Efficiency: Enter the average highway fuel efficiency for your vehicle.

Calibrate Fuel Economy:

For more accurate reports, calibrate the fuel economy when you fill up your fuel tank.

1. Calculate your miles per gallon or liters per 100 kilometers.

2. Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Fuel Report > Calibrate.

3. Enter the result from step 1 and touch OK.

Adjust Fuel Price:

Touch Tools > ecoRoute > Fuel Price and enter the current price.

To receive traffic information, the FM TMC traffic receiver must be connected to the GARMIN NUVI 1410 and an external power source, and be within range of an FM station transmitting traffic data. A traffic icon will appear on the map page.

Traffic Icon Color Meanings:

Manually Avoiding Traffic:

1. On the Map page, touch the traffic icon.

2. Touch Traffic On Route.

3. Touch the arrows to view other traffic delays on your route, if necessary.

4. Touch Avoid to avoid the traffic delay.

Viewing the Traffic Map:

1. On the Map page, touch the traffic icon.

2. Touch Show Traffic Map to view traffic incidents on a map.

To return to the normal map, touch the traffic icon and then Show Normal Map.

Touch Tools > Settings > System to change the following:

• GPS Simulator: Turn on to simulate navigation and save battery power when indoors.

• Keyboard: Touch QWERTY for a standard layout or ABCDE for an alphabetical layout.

• Units: Change units of measure to Kilometers or Miles.

• About: Display the software version and unit ID number.

• Restore: Restore the system settings to factory defaults.

Touch Tools > Settings > Navigation to change the following:

• Route Preference: Select a preference for calculating your route.

– Faster Time: Calculates routes that are faster to drive but may be longer in distance.

– Shorter Distance: Calculates routes that are shorter in distance but may take more time.

– Off Road: Calculates point-to-point routes without roads.

– Less Fuel: Calculates routes that could use less fuel.

• Avoidances: Select the road types you want to avoid on your routes.

• Restore: Restore the original navigation settings.

Touch Tools > Settings > Map to change the following:

• Map Detail: Adjust the amount of detail shown on the map. More detail can cause the map to redraw slower.

• Map View: Select a map perspective.

– Track Up: Displays the map in two dimensions (2D) with your direction of travel at the top.

– North Up: Displays the map in 2D with North at the top.

– 3D: Displays the map in three dimensions (3D) in Track Up.

• Vehicle: Touch Change to change the icon used to display your position on the map.

• Trip Log: Show or hide the log of your travels.

• Map Info: View the maps loaded on your GARMIN NUVI 1410. Touch a map to enable or disable it.

• Restore: Restore the original map settings.

Garmin Lock is a theft-deterrent system. When enabled, you must enter a PIN or drive to a pre-set security location each time you turn on the GARMIN NUVI 1410.

1. Touch Tools > Settings > Security.

2. Touch the button below Garmin Lock.

3. Enter a 4-digit PIN and drive to a security location (a place you return to often, like home).

If the GARMIN NUVI 1410 has satellite signals and you are at the security location, you do not need to enter the PIN.

NOTE: If you forget your PIN and your security location, you must send your GARMIN NUVI 1410 to Garmin to get it unlocked. You must also send a valid product registration or proof of purchase.

• Cleaning the Unit: Clean the outer casing (not the touchscreen) using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution, and then wipe it dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents.

• Cleaning the Touchscreen: Clean the touchscreen with a soft, clean, lint-free cloth. Use water, isopropyl alcohol, or eyeglass cleaner, if needed. Apply the liquid to the cloth, and then gently wipe the touchscreen.

• Protecting Your nüvi: Do not store the GARMIN NUVI 1410 where prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can occur. Do not expose the unit to water. Never use a hard or sharp object to operate the touchscreen.

1. Turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1410.

2. Hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning on the GARMIN NUVI 1410.

3. Release the Power button when the Garmin screen appears.

4. Continue to hold the upper-left corner of the touch screen for 30 seconds until a white screen with “Press dot” appears. Follow the on-screen instructions.

IMPORTANT: This deletes all user-entered information.

1. Hold your finger on the lower-right corner of the GARMIN NUVI 1410 screen while turning on the device.

2. Keep your finger pressed until the pop-up window appears.

3. Touch Yes to clear all user data. All original settings are restored, and any items you have saved are erased.

If your unit will not charge in your vehicle, you might need to replace the fuse located at the tip of the vehicle adapter.

1. Unscrew the black, round end piece, and remove it. You may need to use a coin to remove the end piece.

2. Remove the fuse (glass and silver cylinder), and replace it with the appropriate fuse type, which can be found on the side of the vehicle adapter.

3. Ensure that the silver tip is placed in the black end piece. Screw on the black end piece.

Take your GARMIN NUVI 1410 out of parking garages and away from tall buildings and trees. Remain stationary for several minutes.

Clean the suction cup and windshield with rubbing alcohol. Dry with a clean, dry cloth. Mount the suction cup as described in the mounting instructions.

Check the fuse in the vehicle power cable. Ensure the vehicle is turned on and is supplying power to the power outlet. Your GARMIN NUVI 1410 can only charge between 32°F and 113°F (between 0°C and 45°C). If the nüvi is placed in direct sunlight or in a hot environment, it cannot charge.

To maximize the time between charges, turn down the backlight. Touch Tools > Settings > Display > Brightness.

Allow the unit to fully discharge, and then fully charge it without interrupting the charge cycle.

Calibrate the touchscreen. Turn the device off. Press and hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning the device on. Continue holding the corner for about 30 seconds until the calibration screen appears and follow the instructions.

1. Unplug the USB cable from your computer.

2. Turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1410.

3. Plug the USB cable into a USB port on your computer and into your GARMIN NUVI 1410. The device should automatically turn on and go into USB mass storage mode. Ensure your GARMIN NUVI 1410 is connected to a USB port and not a USB hub.

If you have several network drives mapped on your computer, Windows can have trouble assigning drive letters to your GARMIN NUVI 1410 drives. See your operating system Help file to learn how to map or assign drive letters.

Ensure your GARMIN NUVI 1410 has Bluetooth. Touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth. Verify that the Bluetooth field is set to Enabled. Ensure your phone is turned on and is less than 33 feet (about 10 meters) away from your GARMIN NUVI 1410.
