To mount your GARMIN NUVI 1260 on your windshield:

1. Remove the clear plastic from the suction cup and place the suction cup on the windshield.

2. Flip the lever back toward the windshield.

3. Snap the cradle onto the suction cup arm.

4. Plug the vehicle power cable into the back of your GARMIN NUVI 1260.

5. Plug the other end of the vehicle power cable into a power outlet in your vehicle. The unit should turn on automatically if it is plugged in and the vehicle is running. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6. Fit the bottom of your GARMIN NUVI 1260 into the cradle.

7. Tilt your GARMIN NUVI 1260 back until it snaps into place.

WARNING: This product contains a lithium-ion battery. To prevent damage, remove the unit from the vehicle when exiting or store it out of direct sunlight.

1. Go outdoors to an open area, away from tall buildings and trees.

2. Turn on your GARMIN NUVI 1260.

Acquiring satellite signals can take a few minutes. The bars on the screen indicate satellite strength. When at least one of the bars is green, your GARMIN NUVI 1260 has acquired satellite signals.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1260 offers several usage modes (Pedestrian, Bicycle, Automobile) for different navigation methods. To change your usage mode:

1. From the Main menu, touch the usage mode icon on the upper-left corner.

2. Select a mode, and touch OK.

3. Touch Yes, and follow the on-screen instructions to configure your settings.

Press and quickly release the Power button to view additional options:

• Touch the brightness icons to adjust the screen brightness.

• Touch Lock Screen to prevent accidental screen touches.

• Touch Power Off to turn off your GARMIN NUVI 1260.

You can also turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1260 by holding the power button for approximately three seconds.

If your GARMIN NUVI 1260 stops functioning, reset your device by pressing and holding the Power button.

From the Main menu, touch Volume. Touch the plus and minus icons to adjust the volume. Touch the box next to Mute to mute all audio.

1. Touch Where To?.

2. Select a category, such as Address, Points of Interest, or Recently Found.

3. Select a subcategory if applicable.

4. Select a destination from the list.

5. Touch Go! to start navigation.

1. While navigating a route, touch the menu icon and then touch Where To?.

2. Search for the extra stop.

3. Touch Go!.

4. Touch Add as Via Point to add this stop before your final destination.

1. While navigating a route, touch the menu icon and then touch Where To?.

2. Search for the new destination.

3. Touch Go!.

4. Touch Set as New Destination to make this your final destination.

1. While navigating a route, touch the menu icon.

2. Touch the detour icon.

If the route you are currently taking is the only reasonable option, the GARMIN NUVI 1260 might not calculate a detour.

1. With a route active, touch Menu.

2. Touch Stop.

1. Touch Where To? > Address.

2. Change the state, country, or province, if necessary.

3. Touch Search All. If you know the city, touch Spell City, enter the city/postal code, and touch Done.

4. Enter the number of the address, and touch Done.

5. Enter the street name, and touch Done.

6. Select the correct street in the list, if necessary.

7. Touch the address, if necessary, to begin navigation.

To set your home location for the place you return to most often:

1. Touch Where To? > Go Home.

2. Select an option:

• Enter your address.

• Use your current location.

• Choose from a list of recently found locations.

To navigate home after setting it, touch Where To? > Go Home.

To pair and connect, your phone and the GARMIN NUVI 1260 must be turned on and be within 33 ft. (10 m) of each other.

To pair using the GARMIN NUVI 1260 settings:

1. From the Main menu, touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth > Add.

2. Enable the Bluetooth component on your phone, and enable Find Me/Discoverable/Visible mode.

3. Touch OK on the GARMIN NUVI 1260.

4. Select your phone, and touch OK.

5. Enter the nüvi Bluetooth PIN (1234) in your phone.

When you get a call, the Incoming Call window opens. Touch Answer to answer the call. Touch Ignore to ignore the call and stop your phone from ringing. The internal microphone is in the front of the GARMIN NUVI 1260; speak normally.

During a call, the In Call icon appears. Touch it and then touch Call Options for the following:

• Touch Tones: Displays a keypad page for automated systems, such as voice mail.

• Transfer Audio To Phone: This is helpful if you want to turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1260 but remain on the call, or if you need privacy. To switch back, touch Transfer Audio To Device.

• Mute Microphone.

1. Insert a memory card (optional). Press it in until it clicks.

2. Connect the mini-USB connector to the back of the GARMIN NUVI 1260.

3. Connect the larger end of the cable to an available USB port on your computer.

Your GARMIN NUVI 1260 and memory card will appear as removable drives in My Computer (Windows) or as mounted volumes (Mac).

1. Connect your GARMIN NUVI 1260 to your computer.

2. Browse your computer for the file you want to copy.

3. Highlight the file, and click Edit > Copy.

4. Open the “Garmin” or memory card drive/volume.

5. Click Edit > Paste. The file appears in the list of files in the nüvi memory or on the memory card.

6. When you are finished, safely eject the device from your computer and unplug it.

1. Connect the GARMIN NUVI 1260 to your computer, and open the nüvi or memory card drive/volume.

2. Highlight the file you want to delete.

3. Press the Delete key on the computer keyboard.

CAUTION: If you do not know the purpose of a file, do not delete it. Your GARMIN NUVI 1260 memory contains important system files that should not be deleted.

1. Turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1260.

2. Hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning on the GARMIN NUVI 1260.

3. Release the Power button when the Garmin screen appears.

4. Continue to hold the upper-left corner of the touch screen for 30 seconds until a white screen with “Press dot” appears.

IMPORTANT: This deletes all user-entered information.

1. Hold your finger on the lower-right corner of the GARMIN NUVI 1260 screen while turning on the device.

2. Keep your finger pressed until the pop-up window appears.

3. Touch Yes to clear all user data.

All original settings are restored. Any items that you have saved are erased.

Charge your GARMIN NUVI 1260 for at least 4 hours before using on battery power. You can charge it by using one of the following methods:

• Connect the vehicle power cable.

• Connect the USB cable (included in some packages) to a computer.

• Connect an AC adapter (optional accessory).

To increase the accuracy of the battery gauge, fully discharge the battery and then fully charge it. Do not unplug the GARMIN NUVI 1260 until it is totally charged.

If your unit will not charge in your vehicle, you might need to replace the fuse located at the tip of the vehicle adapter.

CAUTION: When replacing the fuse, do not lose any of the small pieces, and ensure they are put back in the proper place.

1. Unscrew the black, round end piece, and remove it. You may need to use a coin to remove the end piece.

2. Remove the fuse (glass and silver cylinder), and replace it with the appropriate fuse type, which can be found on the side of the vehicle adapter.

3. Ensure that the silver tip is placed in the black end piece. Screw on the black end piece.

• To remove the GARMIN NUVI 1260 from the cradle, press the tab of the cradle while tilting the device forward.

• To remove the cradle from the mount, turn the cradle to the right or left. Apply pressure in that direction until the cradle snaps off the mount.

• To remove the suction cup mount from the windshield, flip the lever toward you. Pull the tab on the suction cup toward you.

Take your GARMIN NUVI 1260 out of parking garages and away from tall buildings and trees. Remain stationary for several minutes.

Clean the suction cup and windshield with rubbing alcohol. Dry with a clean, dry cloth. Mount the suction cup as described in the setup instructions.

Check the fuse in the vehicle power cable. Ensure the vehicle is turned on and is supplying power to the power outlet. Your GARMIN NUVI 1260 can only charge between 32°F and 113°F (between 0°C and 45°C). If the GARMIN NUVI 1260 is placed in direct sunlight or in a hot environment, it cannot charge.

To maximize the time between charges, turn down the backlight. Touch Tools > Settings > Display > Brightness.

Allow the unit to fully discharge, and fully charge it (without interrupting the charge cycle).

Calibrate the touchscreen. Turn the device off. Press and hold the upper-left corner of the screen while turning the device back on. Continue to hold the corner for about 30 seconds until the calibration screen appears.

When your GARMIN NUVI 1260 is in USB mass storage mode, a picture of a nüvi connected to a computer is shown. Also, you should see two new removable disk drives listed in My Computer.

1. Unplug the USB cable from your computer.

2. Turn off the GARMIN NUVI 1260.

3. Plug the USB cable into a USB port on your computer and into your GARMIN NUVI 1260. The device automatically turns on and goes into USB mass storage mode. Ensure your GARMIN NUVI 1260 is connected to a USB port and not a USB hub.

If you have several network drives mapped on your computer, Windows can have trouble assigning drive letters to your GARMIN NUVI 1260 drives. See your operating system Help file to learn how to map or assign drive letters.

First, save the hotel in your Favorites. Then you can search near the hotel for restaurants.

1. Touch Where To? > Near.

2. Select A Favorite Destination.

3. Select a destination (your saved hotel).

4. Touch Points of Interest > Food and Drink.

5. Select a category. Your GARMIN NUVI 1260 searches for locations near the hotel.

6. Select a restaurant.

Ensure you have a GARMIN NUVI 1260 with Bluetooth. Touch Tools > Settings > Bluetooth. Verify that the Bluetooth field is set to Enabled. Ensure your phone is turned on and is less than 33 feet (about 10 meters) away from your GARMIN NUVI 1260.
