What are the key safety instructions for installing the FURUNO NAVPILOT-720?

Please follow these safety instructions before you install the FURUNO NAVPILOT-720:

WARNINGS:

• Turn off the power at the switchboard before beginning the installation. Fire or electrical shock can result if the power is left on.

• Use the proper power cable. Use JIS type DPY-2.5 or the equivalent. Other types can cause fire.

• Confirm that no one is near the rudder when bleeding air from oil cylinder. The rudder may move unexpectedly, possibly causing bodily injury.

• When connecting a geomagnetism detection type heading sensor, correct magnetic field deviation. If an autopilot is used without the compensation, unexpected course change may occur.

• Set [REMOTE CONTROLLER 1/2] on the [SYSTEM SETUP] menu properly according to the remote controller connected. If not done properly, malfunction may occur. Especially, take care when setting the NFU-type remote controller.

• Install a control unit (or emergency stop button) at each helm station, to allow you to disable the autopilot in an emergency. If the autopilot cannot be disabled, accidents may result. To disable the autopilot by operating the emergency stop button, set [IN PORT1] or [IN PORT2] to [GO STBY] on the [UNIVERSAL PORT] menu.

CAUTIONS:

• Confirm that the power supply voltage is compatible with the voltage rating of the equipment. Connection to the wrong power supply can cause fire or damage the equipment.

• Observe the compass safe distances to prevent interference to a magnetic compass.

• Separate the reversible pump at least one meter from communications equipment, communications antenna and communications cabling to prevent interference.

What should I consider when installing the Processor Unit FAP-7002 for my FURUNO NAVPILOT-720?

When selecting a mounting location for the Processor Unit, consider the following points:

• Install the unit away from direct sunlight and water splash.

• Select a location where temperature and humidity are moderate and stable.

• Consider the length of the cable connected between the Processor Unit and other units.

• Install the unit where you can easily remove the cover and access controls and connectors.

• For a bulkhead installation, ensure the mounting location is strong enough to support the unit under normal pitching and rolling.

• To prevent interference, separate the processor unit and its cables at least one meter from communications equipment, antennas, and cables.

• Make sure there are no objects near the vent.

• Leave enough space around the unit for maintenance and servicing.

• Observe the compass safe distances to prevent interference to a magnetic compass.

Installation methods:

Tabletop: Fasten with four self-tapping screws.

Bulkhead: Screw in two self-tapping screws for the upper side, leaving about 5 mm exposed. Hang the unit on these screws and tighten them. Then, screw in two self-tapping screws for the lower side and tighten.

How do I install and adjust the Rudder Reference Unit FAP-6112 on my FURUNO NAVPILOT-720?

Note: This unit is not required for Fantum Feedback™ or EVC system equipped boats.

Installation:

• Leave sufficient space around all moving parts.

• Fasten the unit to the rudder as shown in the manual diagrams, ensuring the following conditions are met:

– 350 mm (13.8”) < Y2 < 540 mm (21.3”)

– X1 = X2

– Y1 = Y2

• Use four supplied self-tapping screws to fasten the rudder reference unit.

Adjustment:

1. Center the rudder.

2. With the rudder centered, check if the notch on the RRU shaft is aligned with the arrow mark. If it is, no further adjustment is needed.

3. If not aligned, loosen the screw on the arm of the RRU, then align the notch with the arrow mark.

4. Tighten the screw.

How do I wire the Processor Unit on my FURUNO NAVPILOT-720?

To wire the Processor Unit, you must first access the internal components.

How to fasten cables to the cable clamps:

How do I use the PARAMETER SETUP menu to adjust the steering performance of my FURUNO NAVPILOT-720?

The [PARAMETER SETUP] menu allows you to adjust how the NAVpilot steers the boat based on sea conditions.

Setting the Sea State:

1. Rotate the knob to select [SEA STATE] and push the knob.

2. Select the option that best matches the current sea state:

[FULL-AUTO]: (Recommended for normal operation) Auto adjustment and self-learning are on.

[SEMI-AUTO]: Auto adjustment is on, but self-learning is off.

[MANUAL-CALM]: Self-learning is off, using parameters for calm seas.

[MANUAL-MODERATE]: Self-learning is off, using parameters for normal sea states.

[MANUAL-ROUGH]: Self-learning is off, using parameters for rough seas.

Manually Setting Steering Parameters:

If you select one of the MANUAL sea states, you can fine-tune the steering parameters.

1. Select [MANUAL PARAMETERS] and push the knob.

2. You can adjust three parameters:

[WEATHER]: (Range 0° to 10°) Sets the deadband for course deviations. A higher number makes the pilot less sensitive to small course changes, which is useful in rough seas to prevent excessive rudder movement.

[RUDDER GAIN]: (Range 1-20) Sets the amount of rudder angle applied for every degree of course deviation. A higher gain results in more aggressive rudder movements.

[COUNT RUDDER]: (Range 0-20) Sets the amount of counter-rudder applied to prevent overshooting a new course. Increase this setting if the boat zigzags when changing course.

3. To change a value, select the parameter, push the knob, rotate to the new value, and push the knob again.

How do I restore my FURUNO NAVPILOT-720 to its default settings?
