What are the safety instructions for installing the FURUNO NAVPILOT-711C?
Please follow these safety instructions before and during the installation of your FURUNO NAVPILOT-711C.
WARNING
• Turn off the power at the switchboard before beginning the installation. Fire or electrical shock can result if the power is left on.
• Use the proper power cable. Use JIS type DPY-2.5 or the equivalent. Other types can cause fire.
• Confirm that no one is near the rudder when bleeding air from oil cylinder. The rudder may move unexpectedly, possibly causing bodily injury.
• When connecting a geomagnetism detection type heading sensor, correct magnetic field deviation. If an autopilot is used without the compensation, unexpected course change may occur.
• Set [REMOTE CONTROLLER 1/2] on [SYSTEM SETUP] menu properly according to the remote controller connected. If not done properly, malfunction may occur. Especially, take care when setting the NFU-type remote controller.
• Install a control unit (or emergency stop button) at each helm station, to allow you to disable the autopilot in an emergency. If the autopilot cannot be disabled, accidents may result. To disable the autopilot by operating the emergency stop button, set [IN PORT1] or [IN PORT2] to [GO STBY] on the [UNIVERSAL PORT] menu.
CAUTION
• Confirm that the power supply voltage is compatible with the voltage rating of the equipment. Connection to the wrong power supply can cause fire or damage the equipment.

How do I adjust the steering parameters in the PARAMETER SETUP menu of my FURUNO NAVPILOT-711C?
The [PARAMETER SETUP] menu allows you to adjust how the autopilot steers the boat based on sea conditions.
Sea State Adjustment:
1. Select [SEA STATE] from the menu.
2. Choose an option that best matches the current sea state:
• [FULL-AUTO]: Recommended for normal operation. Auto adjustment and self-learning are both on.
• [SEMI-AUTO]: Auto adjustment is on, but self-learning is off. Use this if you want the pilot to steer based on experience but not learn from the current situation.
• [MANUAL-CALM], [MANUAL-MODERATE], [MANUAL-ROUGH]: Self-learning is off. The pilot uses preset parameters for different sea conditions. If you select a manual mode, you can then adjust the manual parameters.
How to Manually Set Steering Parameters (Weather, Rudder Gain, Counter Rudder):
If you selected a [MANUAL] sea state, you can fine-tune the following:
• [WEATHER]: (0° to 10°) Sets the deadband for course corrections. In rough seas, a higher value makes the autopilot less sensitive to small course deviations, preventing excessive rudder movement.
• [RUDDER GAIN]: (1-20) Sets how much rudder angle is applied for each degree of course deviation. A higher value results in more aggressive rudder movement.
• [COUNT RUDDER]: (0-20) This is counter-rudder. It helps prevent the boat from overshooting the new course after a turn. Increase this setting if the boat zigzags before settling on a new course.
