The FORD M-6687-D46 kit is designed to work in 4.6L 2V or 4V applications. The installation instructions primarily address the installation of the windage tray on 2V engines, as the kit serves as a direct replacement for 4V engine applications.

It is strongly recommended that the engine be removed from the vehicle prior to installing this kit. The instructions are written to reflect the engine being out of the vehicle and on an engine stand with the oil pan removed.

Step 1: Remove the three (3) bolts that attach the oil pump screen and cover assembly and remove the assembly from the engine. Save all pieces for re-assembly.

Step 2: Remove the spacer hex from the #4 main cap.

Step 3: Remove center two (2) main bearing cap bolts on #3 main cap and remove one (1) center main bearing cap bolt from #4 main cap. Do not remove the stud.

Step 4: Replace the removed bolts with the bearing cap studs provided (3 places).

Step 5: Torque the studs to 30 ft./lbs. (40 NM) + 90°.

Step 6: Install the windage tray over the studs on #3 and #4 main bearing caps. Ensure the flat end faces the rear of the block.

Step 7: Install hex spacers on the studs and torque to 19 ft./lbs. (25 Nm). Use the three (3) spacers provided on the three (3) new studs that were installed in step 4.

Step 8: Re-install the oil pump and screen assembly. Note: Make sure that the o-ring is properly located between the assembly and the oil pump.

Step 9: Re-install the attaching bolts – M6 (2) to the oil pump, M8 (1) to space. Torque to 8 ft./lbs. (10 Nm) and 19 ft./lbs. (25 Nm) respectively.

Step 10: Rotate the crank and check for interference. While rotating the crank, check to make sure that proper clearance exists to avoid causing engine damage.
