ERMENRICH PING SM90 (01) PDF DOCUMENT

The ERMENRICH PING SM90 kit includes a stud detector, Type-C USB-cable, carry bag, user manual, and warranty.

The ERMENRICH PING SM90 uses a rechargeable lithium battery. To charge the device, connect the included power cable to the device and to a DC adapter (not included) via a USB plug. Then, connect it to an AC power supply.

Press and hold the Power/Back button (4) for 1 second to turn the ERMENRICH PING SM90 on or off.

The laser meter function is set by default. To switch to the stud detector function, press the SURVEY button (8). To switch to the laser meter function and digital level function, press the DIST button (2). You can scroll the menu to the digital level function by pressing the Left/- button (3) or the Right/+ button (9).

1. Press the SURVEY button (8) to enter the menu. Here you can select the history record, units of measurement, acoustic alert, sensitivity setting, and metal detection calibration.

2. Use the Left/- button (3) and the Right/+ button (9) to scroll through the menu.

3. Press the MEAS button (7) to confirm your selection.

4. Press the Power/Back button (4) to return to the previous screen.

First, direct the laser beam at the target and take a measurement. To add the next measurement, press and hold the Right/+ button (9) and then take the next measurement. To subtract a measurement, press and hold the Left/- button (3).

The default reference point is the bottom end of the device. To change the measurement point from the bottom to the top of the device, press and hold the DIST button (2).

Press the MEAS button (7) to record the current measurement. To view recorded values, press the SURVEY button to enter the menu and select “Memory”. To clear the record, press the Left/- button (3) and the Right/+ button (9) at the same time. The ERMENRICH PING SM90 can store up to 50 history slots and automatically overwrites old records when new records are made.

The laser meter function is set by default. Press the Left/- button (3) or the Right/+ button (9) to select one of the following options:

Continuous measurement: Aim the laser beam at the target. The device will continuously take measurements. The MAX, MIN, and the last measured values will be displayed. Press the Power/Back button (4) to exit.

Single distance measurement: Aim the laser beam at the target and press the MEAS button (7). The value will be displayed.

Area measurement: Aim the laser beam at the target and press the MEAS button (7) to measure two sides. The area will be calculated automatically.

Volume measurement: Aim the laser at the target and press the MEAS button (7) to measure the length, width, and height. The volume will be calculated automatically.

Calculations with 2 additional measurements (Pythagorean theorem): Aim the laser at the target. Press the MEAS button (7) to measure the horizontal line length and hypotenuse length. The vertical line length will be calculated automatically.

Calculations with 3 additional measurements (Pythagorean theorem), method 1: Aim the laser at the target. Press the MEAS button (7) to measure the horizontal line length and the lengths of two hypotenuses. The line between them will be displayed, and its length calculated automatically.

Calculations with 3 additional measurements (Pythagorean theorem), method 2: Aim the laser at the target. Press the MEAS button (7) to measure the horizontal line length and the lengths of two hypotenuses. The line between them will be displayed on the screen.

Triangle area measurement: Aim the laser at the target. Press the MEAS button (7) to measure the lengths of the three lines. The area will be calculated automatically.

Trapezoid side measurement: Aim the laser at the target. Press the MEAS button (7) to measure the lengths of two vertical lines and one horizontal line. The fourth line length will be calculated automatically.

Horizontal line measurement: Aim the laser at the target. Press the MEAS button (7) to measure the hypotenuse length. The angle, horizontal line length, and vertical line length will be calculated automatically.

Vertical line measurement: Aim the laser at the target. Press the MEAS button (7) to measure the lengths of two lines. The device will calculate the angle between these lines and the vertical line length between their ends.

Countdown: Use the Left/- button (3) or the Right/+ button (9) to adjust the countdown time. Press the MEAS button (7) to measure the length. A measured length value will be displayed when the time is over.

Digital level function: Press the DIST button (2). Press the Left/- button (3) or the Right/+ button (9) to scroll to the Digital level mode. The inclination angle value will be displayed on the screen.

The metal detection mode is used for detecting hidden ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Press the SURVEY button (8) to switch to this function; it is set by default in stud detector mode.

Calibration:

1. Press the SURVEY button (8) to enter the menu and select Metal calibration.

2. Place the device flat against the target surface, ensuring no metal objects are nearby.

3. Press the MEAS button (7) to start automatic calibration. Calibration is complete when the white part of the display becomes dark.

4. Remove the device and press the Power/Back button (4) to exit calibration mode.

Usage:

1. After calibration, place the device flat on the surface to be tested. A red line on the screen indicates it’s ready to scan.

2. Slowly move the detector across the surface.

3. When a metal object is detected, the screen will display the appropriate icon (non-ferrous or ferrous metal), the distance to the target, and signal strength. The device will beep; the signal gets stronger as you get closer to the object.

4. When the signal is strongest, the center mark (18) lights up. Move the device to pinpoint the object’s location based on signal intensity.

Erratic scanning results may be caused by humidity, moisture within the wall cavity or drywall, or recently applied paint or wallpaper that is not fully dried.

This mode scans for wooden and/or metal studs. Calibration must be performed each time a new mode is selected.

Automatic Calibration:

1. Press the SURVEY button (8), then use the Left/- or Right/+ buttons to select stud detection mode.

2. Place the device flat against the target surface.

3. Calibration is automatic. It is complete when the white part of the display turns dark and the yellow line disappears.

4. Remove the device from the surface and press the Power/Back button (4) to exit.

Manual Calibration: If the device doesn’t find objects after automatic calibration, calibrate it manually.

1. Enter the menu and select stud detection mode.

2. Press the MEAS button (7) to start calibration.

3. Place the device flat on the target surface.

4. When the display darkens, press the MEAS button (7) to force calibration.

5. Slowly move the detector. When the signal is strongest, the center mark (18) lights up. Calibration is complete when the white part of the display darkens and the yellow line disappears.

6. Remove the device and press the Power/Back button (4) to exit.

Usage:

1. After calibration, place the device flat on the surface.

2. Slowly move the detector across the surface. A blue line is displayed during the search.

3. If a stud is detected, the screen shows the stud icon, distance, and signal strength. The device will beep, with the signal getting stronger as it nears the object.

This mode is exclusively for detecting live wires.

Calibration:

1. Press the SURVEY button (8) and press the Right/+ button (9) twice to select AC detection mode.

2. Place the device flat against the target surface.

3. Press the MEAS button (7) to start automatic calibration. It is complete when the white part of the display darkens.

4. Remove the device and press the Power/Back button (4) to exit.

Usage:

1. After calibration, place the device flat on the surface.

2. Slowly move the detector across the surface.

3. When a live wire is detected, the screen will display the live wire icon, distance, and signal strength. The device will beep. To locate the wire with greater accuracy, you can reduce the device’s sensitivity multiple times to narrow the search area.

Do not touch the sensing area of the device during measurement to avoid mistakes, as the human body has conducting properties. Do not rely exclusively on the detector to locate items behind scanned surfaces. Always assume there may be live cabling inside a wall and use caution when nailing, cutting, or drilling. Calibrate the device regularly.

This is a class II laser product. DO NOT stare into the beam with unprotected eyes or through an optical device, and do not direct it towards other people. Do not remove any safety labels or aim the device at the sun. Do not attempt to disassemble the device. For repairs, contact a specialized service center. Protect the device from impact and mechanical force. Do not use it in explosive environments. Store it in a dry, cool place. Use only compliant accessories and spare parts. Never operate a damaged device. If a part is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.

Always purchase the correct size and grade of battery for the intended use. Always replace the entire set of batteries at once, avoiding mixing old and new ones, or different types. Clean battery and device contacts before installation. Ensure correct polarity (+ and -) when installing. Remove batteries if the equipment will not be used for an extended period. Remove used batteries promptly. Never short-circuit, heat, or disassemble batteries. Switch off the device after use. Keep batteries away from children to avoid risks of ingestion, suffocation, or poisoning. Dispose of used batteries according to your country’s laws.
