Every individual requires formal training in the use of fall protection equipment and systems.

It is the user’s responsibility to undergo proper training on the inspection, use, and maintenance of this equipment. It is also the employer’s responsibility to ensure all users are trained.

The user must be aware that forces experienced during a fall arrest and prolonged suspension may cause injury. Consult a physician if there is any question about the user’s ability to use this product. Pregnant women and minors must not use this product.

This product is part of a personal fall arrest or restraint system. The user must follow the manufacturer’s instructions for each component of the system.

Fall arrest systems are life-saving but the user may experience an impact of force. The victim of a fall may also experience adverse effects due to prolonged suspension. If in doubt about your ability to use this product, consult a physician.

The following general requirements must be met when using the DEWALT DXFP532131:

All warnings and instructions shall be provided to Authorized persons/users.

All Authorized persons/users must refer to the regulations governing occupational safety, as well as applicable ANSI standards.

Refer to product labels for information on specific OSHA regulations and ANSI standards met by the product.

Proper precautions should always be taken to remove any obstructions, debris, material, or other recognized hazards from the work area that could cause injuries or interfere with the operation of the system.

All equipment must be inspected before each use according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

All equipment should be inspected by a Competent person on at least an annual basis.

To minimize the potential for accidental disengagement, a Competent person must ensure system compatibility.

Equipment must not be altered in any way. Repairs must be performed only by the manufacturer, or persons or entities authorized in writing by the manufacturer.

Any product exhibiting deformities, unusual wear, or deterioration must be immediately removed from service for inspection by a Qualified person.

Any equipment subject to a fall must be removed from service.

The DEWALT DXFP532131 harness should be inspected prior to each use as per the following guidelines. It is also mandatory that a Competent Person other than the user performs a formal inspection at least once annually.

STEP 1: Locate the impact indicators. This is a section of webbing folded back on itself with a specific stitch pattern. If the harness is subjected to a fall, this stitch opens, releasing a warning sign. If an impact indicator is found to have been released, the harness must be immediately removed from service.

STEP 2: Check the stitches on the harness. They should be intact, with no cuts, severe abrasion, or visual damage.

STEP 3: Check the webbing by holding it with your hands 6 to 8 inches apart and bending it in an inverted U shape. This makes damaged fibers or cuts easier to detect. Repeat this for the entire length of the webbing, checking both sides of each strap. Look for frayed edges, broken fibers, cuts, burns, pulled stitches, and chemical damage.

STEP 4: Check the D-rings for sharp edges, distortion, cracks, breaks, and rough edges. Ensure the D-ring pivots freely and check for any broken stitching on the D-ring attachments.

STEP 5: Inspect the pads for any cracks, excessive wear, and other signs of damage.

STEP 6: Check the buckle attachments for abrasion, rust, or cracks. Check all connections to the webbing for unusual wear, frayed or cut fibers, or broken stitching.

STEP 7: Check the tongue buckles and grommets. The buckle tongues should not be distorted in shape and motion and should overlap the buckle frames and move freely. The roller should turn freely on the frame. Look for distortion or sharp edges. Grommets should not be loose, distorted, or broken. There should not be any additional punched holes in the webbing.

STEP 8: Friction buckles should be inspected for distortion. The center and outer bars of the buckle should be straight. Inspect the corners and attachment points at the center bar.

STEP 9: If your harness has a quick connect buckle at the chest, it should be inspected for distortion, cracks, and breaks. The buckles should engage properly and function smoothly.

Properly donning and fitting your DEWALT DXFP532131 harness is crucial for your safety. Follow these steps:

STEP 1: Lift and hold the harness by the back D-Ring. Ensure the straps are not twisted.

STEP 2: Grab the shoulder straps and put the harness on one arm at a time, like putting on a jacket. Make sure the dorsal D-ring is on your back and all straps hang freely. Both shoulder straps should be sitting flat on your shoulders. The chest strap and buckle will be in front of you.

STEP 3: Reach between your legs, grasp a leg strap, pull it up, and make the connection in front of your harness. Depending on your model, this will be a pass-through, tongue buckle, or quick-connect buckle. Tuck the excess end of the strap under the strap keeper. The connection should be snug, but allow enough space to slide at least three fingers underneath the leg strap.

STEP 4: If your harness has a waist belt, adjust and buckle it for a comfortable, firm fit.

STEP 5: Buckle and adjust the chest strap. It should sit approximately 6 inches below the top of your shoulders. Once positioned properly and snug, tuck any excess webbing into the strap keeper.

STEP 6: Adjust the shoulder straps by pulling on the torso adjustment buckles on each side of the harness. Adjust them equally to center the chest strap.

STEP 7: Perform a final check to ensure a proper fit, as an incorrectly fitted harness can cause serious injury in a fall.

– The chest strap should be snug and positioned approximately 6 inches below shoulder level.

– The leg straps should be snug but still allow you to easily fit several fingers behind the strap.

– The sub-pelvic strap should sit directly under your buttocks without tangles.

Double-check all connections to make sure they are secure.

When using DEWALT snap hooks and carabiners, they should not be connected as follows:

Two or more connectors should never be attached to a single D-ring.

Never attach a connector that could result in a load on its gate.

Connectors should not be connected in a false engagement. Visually confirm that the connector is fully engaged to the anchor point.

Connectors should not be connected to each other.

Connectors should not be connected directly to the webbing or to the rope lanyard or tie back, unless specifically allowed by the manufacturer.

Connectors should not be connected to any object which does not allow the connector gate to close or lock. Never use anchor shapes that allow roll out to occur.

Large throat opening snap hooks (scaffold or rebar hooks) should not be connected to standard size D-rings or similar objects, as this can result in a load on the gate of the connector.

Do not make connections where the connector locking mechanism can contact a structural member, as it may unlock the connector.

The DEWALT DXFP532131 full body harness is designed for use in personal fall arrest, restraint, work positioning, and rescue systems. Specific applications include:

Personal Fall Arrest: Used with a connecting subsystem (e.g., energy absorbing lanyard). The maximum arresting force should not be more than 1800 lbs. (8 kN). Only the dorsal D-ring (on the back) should be connected to the fall arrest subsystem.

Working Positioning: Used to support the user at a work position. A personal fall arrest system is always used as a backup. Connect the work positioning subsystem to the belt-mounted work positioning D-rings (hip or side D-rings). These D-rings should never be used for fall arrest.

Restraint: Prevents the user from reaching a fall hazard. The harness is used with a restraint lanyard or line.

Controlled Descent: The harness is connected to a descender or evacuation system. For this, harnesses are equipped with a sternal D-ring, frontal D-rings, or connectors below the waist.

Rescue: The harness is part of the rescue system. Harnesses with shoulder D-rings may be used for entry and egress into confined spaces.

Ladder Climbing: Prevents falls when climbing. A harness with a frontal D-ring at the sternal location is used with a vertical cable or rail and a climbing sleeve.

Dorsal Attachment: This is the primary fall arrest attachment. It can also be used for travel restraint or rescue.

Sternal Attachment: Can be used as an alternative fall arrest attachment where the dorsal attachment is inappropriate and there is no chance of falling other than feet first. It’s also used for ladder climbing, rope access, and work positioning.

Frontal Attachment: Where there is no chance to fall in a direction other than feet first, it may be used for ladder climbing and work positioning.

Shoulder Attachment: Always use as a pair. They are for rescue and entry/retrieval. Never use shoulder attachments for fall arrest.

Hip Attachment: Used solely for work positioning and always as a pair. They are NOT for fall arrest. Users are cautioned not to store the unused end of a fall arrest lanyard on the hip attachments to avoid tripping hazards.

The required anchorage strength depends on the application:

Fall Arrest: Anchorages must be independent of any anchorage used to support platforms. They should withstand a minimum load of 5,000 lbs. (23 kN) per user, or be designed as part of a complete Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) with a safety factor of at least two, under the supervision of a qualified person.

Work Positioning: The anchorage must sustain a static load of at least 3,000 lbs. (13.3 kN) or two times the potential impact load, whichever is greater. If more than one system is attached, multiply this strength by the number of systems.

Restraint: The anchorage must sustain a static load of at least 1,000 lbs. (4.5 kN). If more than one system is attached, multiply this strength by the number of systems.

Rescue: The anchorage must sustain a static load of at least 3,000 lbs. (13.3 kN). If more than one system is attached, multiply this strength by the number of systems.

To prevent striking a lower level, you must calculate the Total Fall Clearance required below the worker, measured from the Anchorage Connection. The calculation is:

(A) Free Fall Distance (lanyard length) + (B) Energy Absorber Deceleration Distance + (C) Worker Height (including height to D-ring and harness stretch) + (D) Safety Factor.

Ensure this total distance is clear of obstructions.

Example Calculations:

6 FEET FREE FALL: (A) 6 ft. Free Fall + (B) 3.5 ft. Deceleration Distance + (C) 6 ft. Worker Height (includes 1 ft. harness stretch) + (D) 3 ft. Safety Factor = 18.5 ft. (5.6 m) Total Estimated Fall Distance.

12 FEET FREE FALL: (A) 6 ft. Free Fall + (B) 4.5 ft. Deceleration Distance + (C) 6 ft. Worker Height (includes 1 ft. harness stretch) + (D) 3 ft. Safety Factor = 19.5 ft. (5.9 m) Total Estimated Fall Distance.

WARNING: If the only available anchorage is below the harness attachment, and there is a risk of fall, you must use a lanyard with a properly rated energy absorber and ensure sufficient fall clearance.

Maintenance:

The harness can be cleaned with water and a mild soap solution. If it is excessively dirty or has a build-up of material like paint, it may not function properly and should be removed from service.

Never use bleach or bleach solutions to clean the harness as this may damage the webbing.

Always air dry the harness by hanging it. Do not force dry with heat.

Hardware should be wiped off with a clean, dry cloth.

Additional maintenance and servicing procedures must be completed by an authorized service center only.

Storage:

Store the harness in a cool, dry, and clean environment away from direct sunlight. Avoid areas with chemical vapors. It is extremely important to thoroughly inspect the harness after extended storage.
