The engine exhaust from the CRAFTSMAN CMXGWAS020734 contains carbon monoxide, a poisonous gas that can kill you in minutes. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Some chemicals or detergents can also be harmful if inhaled or ingested.

• Operate this product ONLY outside, far away from windows, doors, and vents to reduce the risk of carbon monoxide gas from accumulating and potentially being drawn towards occupied spaces.

• Install battery-operated carbon monoxide alarms or plug-in carbon monoxide alarms with battery back-up according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Smoke alarms cannot detect carbon monoxide gas.

• DO NOT run this product inside homes, garages, basements, crawlspaces, sheds, or other partially-enclosed spaces even if using fans or opening doors and windows for ventilation. Carbon monoxide can quickly build up in these spaces and can linger for hours, even after this product has shut off.

• ALWAYS place this product downwind and point the engine exhaust away from occupied spaces.

• If you start to feel sick, dizzy, or weak while using this product, get to fresh air RIGHT AWAY. See a doctor. You may have carbon monoxide poisoning.

• Use a respirator or mask whenever there is a chance that vapors may be inhaled when using chemicals.

• Read all instructions with the mask so you are certain it will provide the necessary protection against inhaling harmful vapors when using chemicals.

Fuel and its vapors are extremely flammable and explosive. Follow these safety rules to prevent burns, fire, or explosion.

WHEN ADDING OR DRAINING FUEL

• Turn pressure washer engine OFF and let it cool at least 2 minutes before removing the fuel cap. Loosen the cap slowly to relieve pressure in the tank.

• Fill or drain the fuel tank outdoors.

• DO NOT overfill the tank. Allow space for fuel expansion.

• If fuel spills, wait until it evaporates before starting the engine.

• Keep fuel away from sparks, open flames, pilot lights, heat, and other ignition sources.

• Check fuel lines, tank, cap, and fittings frequently for cracks or leaks. Replace if necessary.

• DO NOT light a cigarette or smoke.

WHEN STARTING EQUIPMENT

• Ensure the spark plug, muffler, fuel cap, and air cleaner are in place.

• DO NOT crank the engine with the spark plug removed.

WHEN OPERATING EQUIPMENT

• DO NOT operate this product inside any building, carport, porch, mobile equipment, marine applications, or enclosure.

• DO NOT tip the engine or equipment at an angle which causes fuel to spill.

• DO NOT spray flammable liquids.

WHEN TRANSPORTING, MOVING OR REPAIRING EQUIPMENT

• Transport/move/repair with the fuel tank EMPTY or with the fuel shutoff valve OFF (O).

• DO NOT tip the engine or equipment at an angle which causes fuel to spill.

• Disconnect the spark plug wire.

WHEN STORING FUEL OR EQUIPMENT IN THE FUEL TANK

• Store away from furnaces, stoves, water heaters, clothes dryers, or other appliances that have a pilot light or other ignition source because they could ignite fuel vapors.

Starter cord kickback (rapid retraction) will pull your hand and arm toward the engine faster than you can let go, which could cause serious injury. To avoid this:

• NEVER pull the starter cord without first relieving spray gun pressure.

• When starting the engine, pull the cord slowly until resistance is felt and then pull rapidly to avoid kickback.

• After each starting attempt, where the engine fails to run, always point the spray gun in a safe direction, press the red button and squeeze the spray gun trigger to release high pressure.

• Firmly grasp the spray gun with both hands when using high pressure spray to avoid injury when the spray gun kicks back.

The high-pressure stream of water can cut through skin and underlying tissues, resulting in serious injury and possible amputation. The spray gun also traps high water pressure even when the engine is off.

• If cut by fluid, call a physician immediately. DO NOT treat it as a simple cut.

• DO NOT allow CHILDREN to operate the pressure washer.

• NEVER repair the high pressure hose. Replace it.

• NEVER repair leaking connections with sealant of any kind. Replace the o-ring or seal.

• NEVER connect the high pressure hose to the nozzle extension.

• Keep the high pressure hose connected to the pump and spray gun while the system is pressurized.

• ALWAYS point the spray gun in a safe direction, press the red button and squeeze the spray gun trigger to release high pressure every time you stop the engine.

• NEVER aim the spray gun at people, animals, or plants.

• DO NOT secure the spray gun in the open position.

• DO NOT leave the spray gun unattended while the machine is running.

• NEVER use a spray gun which does not have a trigger lock or trigger guard in place and in working order.

• Always be certain the spray gun, nozzles, and accessories are correctly attached.

1. Place the handle (A) onto the handle supports connected to the main unit. Make sure the holes in the handle align with the holes on the handle supports.

2. Insert carriage bolts (B) through the holes from the inside of the unit and attach a plastic knob (C) from the outside. Tighten by hand.

3. Place the accessory tray (D) over the holes (E) on the handle. Push the tree clips (F) into the holes until they sit flat against the accessory tray.

4. Attach the rope guide (G) through the handle with the plastic knob (H). Tighten by hand. Route the engine recoil rope through the guide.

5. Squeeze the hose hook wireform (J) together and insert it into the grooves at the bottom of the accessory tray.

1. Place the pressure washer on a flat, level surface.

2. Clean the area around the oil fill and remove the yellow oil fill cap/dipstick.

3. Hold the neck of the supplied oil pouch and remove the cap.

4. Slowly pour the contents of the oil pouch into the oil fill opening. Check the oil level frequently, filling to the FULL mark (top hole) on the dipstick. Pause to permit the oil to settle and wipe the dipstick clean each time the level is checked. DO NOT overfill.

5. Replace the oil fill cap/dipstick and fully tighten.

Fuel for the CRAFTSMAN CMXGWAS020734 must meet these requirements:

• Clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline.

• A minimum of 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON). For high altitude use, a minimum 85 octane / 85 AKI (89 RON) gasoline is acceptable at altitudes over 5,000 ft (1524 m).

• Gasoline with up to 10% ethanol (gasohol) is acceptable.

NOTICE: Do not use unapproved gasoline such as E15 and E85. Do not mix oil in gasoline or modify the engine to run on alternate fuels. To protect the fuel system from gum formation, mix in a fuel stabilizer when adding fuel.

1. Uncoil the high pressure hose and attach one end to the base of the spray gun. Tighten by hand.

2. Attach the other end of the high pressure hose to the high pressure outlet on the pump. Tighten by hand.

3. Run water through your garden hose for 30 seconds to clean out any debris. Use ONLY cold water (less than 100°F (38°C)).

4. Before connecting the garden hose to the water inlet, inspect the inlet screen (A). Clean the screen if it contains debris or have it replaced if damaged. DO NOT run the pressure washer if the inlet screen is damaged.

5. Connect the garden hose (not to exceed 50 ft. (15 m) in length) to the water inlet. Tighten by hand.

6. Turn ON the water, press the red button (B) on the gun, and squeeze the trigger to purge the pump system of air and impurities.

NOTICE: Do not run the pump without the water supply connected and turned on, as damage to equipment will void the warranty. There must be at least 10 ft (3 m) of unrestricted garden hose between the pressure washer inlet and any device like a vacuum breaker or check valve.

Review the unit’s assembly to ensure you have performed all of the following:

1. Be sure to read Operator Safety and Operation before using the pressure washer.

2. Make sure the handle is in place and secure.

3. Check that oil has been added to the proper level in the engine crankcase.

4. Add proper fuel to the fuel tank.

5. Check for properly tightened hose connections.

6. Check to make sure there are no kinks, cuts, or damage to the high pressure hose.

7. Provide a proper water supply at an adequate flow.

A – Spray Gun: Controls the application of water onto the cleaning surface with a trigger device. Includes a trigger lock.

B – Recoil Starter: Used for starting the engine manually.

C – High Pressure Hose: Connect one end to the water pump and the other end to the spray gun.

D – Oil Fill/Dipstick: Check and fill with oil here.

E – Engine Identification: Provides model, type, and code of the engine.

F – Identification Label: Provides the model and serial number of the pressure washer.

G – Pump: Develops high pressure.

H – Automatic Cool Down System: Cycles water through the pump when water reaches above 125°F (51°C) to prevent internal pump damage.

J – High Pressure Outlet: Connection for the high pressure hose.

K – Water Inlet: Connection for the garden hose.

L – Detergent Tank: Use to hold up to one-half gallon (1.9 L) of pressure washer detergent.

M – Air Filter: Protects the engine by filtering dust and debris out of the intake air.

N – Engine Rocker Switch: Push this switch to the ON (I) position before using the recoil starter. Push switch to the OFF (O) position for shutting off the engine.

P – Warning/Operating Instructions Tag: Identifies hazards and the proper procedure to start/stop the pressure washer.

R – Fuel Tank: Fill the tank with regular unleaded fuel. Always leave room for fuel expansion.

S – Nozzle Extension with Quick Connect: Allows you to switch between four different spray tips.

T – Accessory Tray: Provides convenient storage for standard and optional accessories, such as brushes, turbo wands, etc.

U – Spray Tips: Detergent, 0°, 15°, and 40° for various high-pressure cleaning applications.

1. Place the pressure washer near an outside water source capable of supplying water at a flow rate greater than 3.5 gallons (13.25 L) per minute and no less than 20 PSI (1.3 BAR).

2. Check that the high pressure hose is tightly connected to the spray gun and pump.

3. Make sure the unit is in a level position.

4. Connect the garden hose to the water inlet on the pressure washer pump.

5. Turn ON the water, point the gun in a safe direction, press the red button, and squeeze the trigger to purge the pump system of air and impurities.

6. Attach the nozzle extension to the spray gun. Tighten by hand.

7. Choose the spray tip you want to use, pull back on the collar of the nozzle extension, insert the spray tip, and release the collar. Tug on the spray tip to make sure it is securely in place.

8. Push the engine rocker switch (A) to the ON (I) position.

9. Position yourself as recommended, grasp the starter grip handle, and pull slowly until you feel some resistance. Then pull rapidly to start the engine. This unit has a ReadyStart® engine, so no priming or choking is required.

10. Return the starter grip handle slowly. DO NOT let the rope “snap back” against the starter.

1. Release the spray gun trigger and let the engine idle for two minutes.

2. Push the engine rocker switch to the OFF (O) position.

3. ALWAYS point the gun in a safe direction and press the red button and squeeze the spray gun trigger to release retained high water pressure.

The quick-connect on the nozzle extension allows you to switch between four different spray tips. To change spray tips:

1. Pull back the collar on the quick-connect and pull the current spray tip off. Store spray tips in the holes provided on the accessory tray.

2. Select the desired spray tip and insert it into the quick-connect collar. Release the collar and tug on the tip to ensure it’s secure.

Spray Tip Guide:

• Black (Low Pressure): Use to apply detergent.

• 40° White (2400 PSI, 2.5 GPM): For delicate rinsing and gentle cleaning of cars, trucks, boats, RV’s, patio furniture, lawn equipment, etc.

• 15° Yellow (2800 PSI, 2.4 GPM): For general rinsing, ideal for most all-purpose cleaning such as home siding, brick patios, wood decks, driveways, and sidewalks.

• 0° Red (3000 PSI, 2.1 GPM): For maximum rinsing of stubborn or hard-to-reach surfaces, such as second-story surfaces, paint removal, oil stains, rust removal, etc.

1. Review the use of spray tips.

2. Prepare the detergent solution as required by the job.

3. Pour detergent into the cleaning tank. The tank holds 0.5 gallons (1.9 liters).

4. Make sure the black detergent spray tip is installed. Detergent cannot be applied with the high-pressure spray tips (White, Yellow, or Red).

5. Make sure the garden hose is connected to the water inlet and the high pressure hose is connected to the spray gun and pump. Turn on the water.

6. Start the engine following the instructions in “How to Start Your Pressure Washer.”

7. Apply detergent to a dry surface, starting at the lower portion of the area to be washed and working upward, using long, even, overlapping strokes.

8. Allow the detergent to “soak in” for 3-5 minutes before washing and rinsing. Reapply as needed to prevent the surface from drying. DO NOT allow detergent to dry on, as it can cause streaking.

1. Remove the black detergent spray tip from the nozzle extension.

2. Select and install the desired high-pressure spray tip (White, Yellow, or Red).

3. Keep the spray gun a safe distance from the area you plan to spray.

4. Apply a high-pressure spray to a small area, then check the surface for damage. If no damage is found, it is okay to continue cleaning.

5. Start at the top of the area to be rinsed, working down with the same overlapping strokes as you used for washing and applying detergent.

¹ Clean if clogged. Replace if perforated or torn.

² Service more often under dirty or dusty conditions.

1. Check engine oil level.

2. Clean debris.

3. Check the water inlet screen for damage.

4. Check the high pressure hose for leaks.

5. Check the detergent tube for damage.

6. Check the spray gun and nozzle extension assembly for leaks.

7. Rinse out the garden hose to flush out debris.

A pulsing sensation while squeezing the spray gun trigger may be caused by a clogged spray tip. To clean it:

1. Shut OFF the engine and turn off the water supply.

2. ALWAYS point the spray gun in a safe direction, press the red button, and squeeze the spray gun trigger to release retained high water pressure.

3. Remove the spray tip from the end of the nozzle extension.

4. Use a small paper clip to free any foreign material clogging or restricting the spray tip (A).

5. Remove the nozzle extension from the spray gun.

6. Using a garden hose, remove additional debris by back flushing water through the nozzle extension for 30 to 60 seconds.

7. Reinstall the spray tip into the nozzle extension.

8. Reconnect the nozzle extension to the spray gun and test the pressure washer.

Checking Oil Level:

1. Make sure the pressure washer is on a level surface.

2. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth. Replace and tighten the dipstick. Remove and check the oil level.

3. Verify the oil is at the FULL mark (top hole) on the dipstick. Replace and tighten the dipstick.

Adding Engine Oil:

1. Make sure the pressure washer is on a level surface.

2. Check the oil level as described above.

3. If needed, slowly pour oil into the oil fill opening to the FULL mark (top hole) on the dipstick. DO NOT overfill.

4. Replace and tighten the dipstick.

Use high-quality detergent oils classified for service SF, SG, SH, SJ or higher. DO NOT use special additives. The recommended oil viscosity depends on the outdoor temperature:

• SAE 30: For temperatures 40°F (4°C) and above.

• 10W-30: For temperatures between 0°F to 100°F (-18°C to 38°C).

• Synthetic 5W-30: For all temperatures from -20°F to 120°F (-30°C to 40°C).

Note: Below 40°F (4°C), using SAE 30 will result in hard starting. Above 80°F (27°C), using 10W-30 may cause increased oil consumption.

Service the air cleaner more often if operating in dirty or dusty conditions.

1. Pull the latch (A) and open the cover (B).

2. Carefully remove the air cleaner to prevent debris from falling into the carburetor.

3. Wash the foam air cleaner (C) in liquid detergent and water. Squeeze it dry in a clean cloth.

4. SATURATE the foam air cleaner in engine oil and squeeze it in a clean cloth to remove excess oil.

5. Reinstall the clean or new foam air cleaner in the base (D).

6. Close the cover and resecure the latch.

Water should not remain in the unit for long periods. Follow these procedures after every use:

1. Shut OFF the engine, turn off the water supply, point the gun in a safe direction, press the red button, and squeeze the trigger to relieve trapped pressure, and let the engine cool.

2. Disconnect the hose from the spray gun and the high pressure outlet on the pump. Drain water from the hose, gun, and nozzle extension. Use a rag to wipe off the hose.

3. Place the spray gun, nozzle extension, and spray tips in the accessory tray. Hang the high pressure hose on the hook of the accessory tray.

4. Empty the pump of all pumped liquids by pulling the recoil handle about six times. This should remove most of the liquid in the pump.

5. Store the unit in a clean, dry area.

6. If storing for more than 30 days, see the Long Term Storage instructions.

You must protect your unit from freezing temperatures to prevent permanent pump damage. Freeze damage is not covered under warranty.

1. Empty the detergent tank by placing a container under the barbed fitting, removing the detergent tube, and tipping the washer forward to empty the contents. Reconnect the hose.

2. Flush the detergent tank by adding 1 pint (0.5 liter) of clean fresh water, running the pressure washer with the black spray tip until the tank is empty.

3. Follow the “After Each Use” procedures.

4. Use pump saver (Model 6039) to treat the pump. This minimizes freeze damage and lubricates pistons and seals.

5. If pump saver is not available, connect a 3 ft. (1 m) section of garden hose to the water inlet adapter. Pour RV-antifreeze (without alcohol) into the hose. Pull the recoil handle twice. Disconnect the hose.

6. Store the unit in a clean, dry area.

Protect Fuel System:

Fuel can become stale when stored over 30 days. To keep fuel fresh, use a fuel stabilizer. There is no need to drain gasoline from the engine if a fuel stabilizer is added according to instructions. Run the engine for 2 minutes to circulate the stabilizer throughout the fuel system before storage. If gasoline has not been treated, it must be drained into an approved container. Run the engine until it stops from lack of fuel.

Protecting the Pump:

To protect the pump from mineral deposits or freezing, use Pump Saver (Model 6039) to treat the pump. Make sure the pressure washer is turned off and disconnected from the water supply. Read and follow all instructions on the Pump Saver container.

Other Storage Tips:

1. DO NOT store fuel from one season to another unless it has been treated.

2. Replace the fuel container if it starts to rust.

3. Cover the unit with a suitable protective cover that does not retain moisture. DO NOT place a storage cover over a hot pressure washer. Let the equipment cool sufficiently before covering.

4. Store the unit in a clean and dry area.
