How do I charge the battery?

Use only the power supplies listed in the technical data. Pay attention to the mains voltage. The voltage of the power source must match the voltage specified on the rating plate of the power adaptor.

Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure full capacity of the battery, completely charge the battery before the first use.

The lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its service life. Interrupting the charging process does not damage the battery.

The Li-ion battery is protected against deep discharge. A protective circuit switches the glue pen off when the battery is drained, meaning the adhesive is no longer being heated.

If the LED indicator (5) flashes red, the battery has less than 30% capacity and should be charged. When the battery is fully charged, the LED indicator is continuously lit red.

To charge the battery, connect the Micro-USB connector (12) of the charging cable (9) to the charging socket (8) and the USB charging connector (11) to the power supply (10). Then plug the mains plug of the power supply into the plug socket.

The LED indicator (5) will flash green during the charging process. When the charging process is complete, the LED indicator will be continuously lit green. Unplug the power supply from the mains.

How do I switch the glue pen on and off?

To switch on the glue pen, press and hold the on/off button (4) until the LED indicator (5) lights up green. The LED indicator (5) will flash while the tool is warming up. When it is continuously lit up, the glue pen is ready to use.

To switch off the glue pen, press and hold the on/off button (4) until the LED indicator (5) goes out.

Note: The glue pen will switch itself off automatically after ten minutes to save energy. When switching on again, check the LED indicator (5): If it briefly lights up red, the battery needs to be charged.

How do I glue items with the pen?

Preparing for gluing:

The bonding locations must be clean, dry and free from grease.

The materials to be glued together and the work surface must not be easily ignited or flammable.

Test whether heat-sensitive materials are suitable beforehand on a sample workpiece.

The ambient temperature and the workpieces to be glued must not be colder than +5 °C and not warmer than +50 °C.

Materials that cool the adhesive down quickly should be warmed first with a hot air gun.

Gluing:

Push the glue stick (6) suited to the material into the glue stick compartment (7).

Switch the glue pen on and allow it to heat up. The LED indicator (5) flashes.

As soon as the LED indicator (5) is continuously lit, the glue pen is ready to use.

Apply moderate pressure to the feed trigger (3).

Apply the adhesive to a single side.

Press the materials you wish to glue together against each other for around 10 to 30 seconds immediately after applying the adhesive. It is still possible to correct the bonding location at this point.

The bond is stable after approx. two minutes of cooling time.

Make sure you do not come into contact with the hot adhesive. Use a silicone mat to press permeable materials together.

What are some application tips for gluing?

Material/workpiece Recommendation
Long workpieces with large surface areas Apply adhesive in dots
Flexible materials (e.g. textiles) Apply adhesive in lines

Do not use flammable solvents to clean the bonding locations. The hot glue could ignite any solvent residue or release hazardous fumes.

Adhesive residue on clothing cannot be removed.

The bonding locations can be painted.

How do I troubleshoot common problems with the glue pen?

Problem Cause Remedy
Glue stick is not being conveyed. Glue stick has been used up Insert a new glue stick
Glue stick diameter is too large or too small Only use recommended original glue sticks
Glue stick is too short Only use recommended original glue sticks / Insert another glue stick
Glue stick is falling out of the glue pen. Glue stick diameter too small Only use recommended original glue sticks
Adhesive continues to flow or drip for a long time after feed is stopped. Melting point of glue stick is too low Only use recommended original glue sticks
Glue pen drips constantly without any pressure being applied to the feed trigger. Melting point of glue stick is too low Only use recommended original glue sticks
Feed is blocked by glue leaking from the rear of the glue stick. Glue stick diameter is too small and/or melting point of glue stick is too low Only use recommended original glue sticks
Adhesive does not flow evenly. Melting point of glue stick is too low Wait until the glue pen has finished warming up
Feed is not even Press the feed trigger slowly and apply even pressure
Bonding surface is only holding fast in one place. Glue has already partly cooled before the components were pressed together Press workpieces together faster
Apply adhesive in glue dots or lines instead of covering the whole surface / Pre-heat the bonding surface with a heat gun
Bond becomes unstuck after it cools. Bonding surface is greasy or too smooth Remove the grease from the bonding surface or roughen it a little
Bonding surface is dusty Clean the bonding surface
Workpiece material is not suitable Hot melt adhesive is not suitable, use special adhesive
Glued tiles in damp rooms become unstuck. Moisture is penetrating the bonding location Hot melt adhesive is not suitable, use a cement-based special adhesive
Glued shoe soles are becoming unstuck. Moisture expands leather and penetrates the bonding location Hot melt adhesive is not suitable, use special adhesive
“Threads” develop as the glue pen is removed from the bonding location after applying adhesive. Feed trigger is still pressed when the application of adhesive is finished Stop the feed just before finishing applying adhesive
Nozzle has not been wiped clean At the end of gluing and before removing the glue pen from the bonding location, wipe the nozzle against the workpiece
Workpiece is melting. Workpiece is made of a material with too low a melting point, e.g. Styrofoam Hot melt adhesive is not suitable, use special adhesive
Fingers are being burned while gluing. Adhesive is puncturing paper when applied Do not hold the workpiece in your hands / Carry out gluing on a heatproof silicone mat
Adhesive is puncturing threads when applied Do not hold the workpiece in your hands / Carry out gluing on a heatproof silicone mat
Metal workpiece is heating up Do not hold the workpiece in your hands / Carry out gluing on a heatproof silicone mat / Clamp the workpiece

How do I maintain and clean the glue pen?

Warning! Switch the glue pen off before commencing maintenance and cleaning work.

Keep the glue pen clean to ensure good, safe operation.

After the adhesive has hardened, you can remove it with a blunt object. Do not use solvents when cleaning. If necessary, the bonding locations can be unstuck again by applying heat.

Do not remove an inserted glue stick out of the back of the glue pen.

How should the glue pen be disposed of?

Glue pens, power supplies, batteries, accessories, packaging and adhesive residues should be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.

Do not dispose of glue pens, power supplies or batteries with household waste!

How do I remove the integrated battery for disposal?

Integrated batteries may only be removed for disposal by qualified personnel. Opening the housing shell can irreparably damage the glue pen.

To remove the battery from the glue pen, first ensure that the battery is drained to the point where the LED indicator (5) is lit red. Unscrew the screws on the housing and remove the housing shell in order to remove the battery. To prevent a short circuit, disconnect the connectors on the battery one at a time and then isolate the poles. Even when fully discharged, the battery still contains a residual capacity, which can be released in case of a short circuit.
