High frequencies are the segment of the audio spectrum responsible for clarity and speech intelligibility. These frequencies are the easiest to locate but also the easiest to obstruct. It is recommended to position the BEHRINGER EUROLIVE PERFORMER E1220 speakers so that the HF drivers are located slightly above the height of the audience. This guarantees the best possible dispersion of high frequencies and considerably higher intelligibility.

To avoid feedback when working with record players in DJ applications, ensure speakers are not located too closely to the record player. Do not place speakers on a room with a wooden floor, or on a podium or platform. Instead, move the speakers away from the record player and place them on firm ground. Another option is to use raised stands to prevent the speakers from having direct contact with the ground.

To prevent damage caused by extreme oscillation of the bass membrane due to subsonic noise and extremely low frequencies, use an equalizer to cut off frequencies that fall below your speakers’ frequency range. You can also use a low-cut/high-pass filter. Using a low-cut filter in your signal path is particularly recommended if you use record players or CD players as your signal source, as these often produce extremely deep frequencies.

Loudspeaker cables whose diameter is too small can considerably limit power performance. The longer the cable, the more pronounced the problem. For most applications, do not use cables longer than 15 meters (45 feet). Cable diameter should be at least 2.5 to 4.0 mm square.

The power rating of your amp should be roughly twice the speaker load capacity. A BEHRINGER EUROLIVE PERFORMER E1220 speaker rated at 200 Watts continuous performance can be easily powered by an amp rated at 400 Watts output power.

If no signal is heard, check the following:

1. Make sure the mixing console is carrying a signal (master faders raised, channels active) and the gain control on the amp is turned up.

2. Ensure the relevant channels are active on the power amp.

3. Check if the cable connection is interrupted or damaged anywhere in the setup.

4. To test the configuration, connect another amplifier. If you get a signal, the original power amp is the culprit.

5. Connect another speaker to the configuration. If you now get a signal, the fault lies within the original speaker.

If the signal is distorted, perform these checks:

1. Ensure all signals on the mixing console are set to optimal levels to avoid distortion.

2. If using a crossover, check if all signals are set to correct levels.

3. Ensure power amp channels are not overdriving. If they are, turn down the gain control. The power amp may not have enough headroom for the required volume.

4. Check that the signal level entering the speakers is not too high.

5. Check EQ settings, as excessively increasing frequencies can result in distortion.

6. Test by connecting another speaker; if the distortion persists, the cause is likely with the power amp.

If the treble signal is too low, check the EQ settings on the mixing console or external EQ. Ensure tweeters are positioned at the same height as the audience’s ears. If these do not solve the issue, the internal tweeter fuse may have opened.

If the bass signal is too low, check the EQ settings. Also, check the speaker cable pin assignment, as incorrect pin assignment can cause phase cancellation and frequency incursions.
