How do I calculate the estimated pond volume for my ATLANTIC PS7000 installation?

To properly size your equipment and ensure accurate dosing of treatments, use the following formula to calculate the approximate volume of water in gallons:

Average Length x Average Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Total Gallons in Pond

It is recommended to calculate the volume before construction and re-calculate after the pond is built to ensure the actual volume is known.

How should the surface area of the stream be sized for the ATLANTIC PS7000 system?

To limit the transitional volume of water needed to get the system cycling and to prevent the pump from running dry, the stream surface area should be half of the pond surface area or less.

If you know your pond size: Average Length of Pond x Average Width of Pond divided by 2 = Maximum Area of Stream.

If you know your stream size: Average Length of Stream x Average Width of Stream x 2 = Minimum Area of Pond.

What is the recommended placement for the ATLANTIC PS7000 FilterFalls and Skimmer?

Whenever possible, position the Skimmer and FilterFalls directly across from each other at opposite ends of the pond. This setup creates a current that pulls surface debris into the Skimmer. If the pond has an unusual shape or components are placed too close together, dead areas can occur. These can be eliminated by using multiple falls or multiple skimmers.

What are the excavation requirements for setting the ATLANTIC PS7000 skimmer?

Prior to setting the skimmer, determine the surface level of the water in the pond. The excavation should be a few inches wider and longer than the Skimmer body. For the ATLANTIC PS7000, the approximate depth of the hole should be 18 to 19 inches.

The skimmer should be set on undisturbed earth. If you over-dig, compact the soil thoroughly to prevent settling. The bottom of the hole must be level side-to-side and front-to-back.

How do I set the water level and backfill the ATLANTIC PS7000 skimmer enclosure?

Place the enclosure into the hole and ensure it is level. The water level needs to be between 1 1/4 inches and 1 1/2 inches below the top of the weir door opening or even with the molded water level indicator on the side of the Skimmer.

Ensure any unexcavated soil in front of the Skimmer is at least 10 inches below the water level to allow the weir door to function properly. Place a few stones inside the enclosure to weigh it down, install the solid support bars, and loosely backfill all sides while lightly compacting. The support bars must be in place during backfilling to prevent the enclosure from deforming.

How do I attach the pond liner to the ATLANTIC PS7000 skimmer?

Step 1: Hold the liner against the face of the Skimmer, allowing at least 2 inches to extend above the top of the enclosure. Leave some slack in the liner below the weir opening to avoid strain if soil settles.

Step 2: Use spring clips to hold the liner in place. Use a sharp razor knife to cut a hole in the liner for the weir door, using the hole in the Skimmer face as a guide.

Step 3: Remove the clips and pull the liner away. Apply a consistent bead of fish-safe RTV Silicone Sealant around the weir door opening on all four sides, approximately 3/4 inch away from the opening directly on top of the bolt holes.

Step 4: Return the liner to its original position and replace the spring clips.

How do I install the weir door on the ATLANTIC PS7000?

Step 1: Unlatch the weir door and lower it to the fully open position. Insert the assembly into the Skimmer opening and push the frame tight against the face.

Step 2: Line up the frame holes with the Skimmer face holes. Use a nail or awl to pierce the liner in the top corners. Loosely fasten the top corners with the supplied 1/4-20 machine screws and serrated flange nuts.

Step 3: Install two screws in the bottom corners, then install the remaining screws. Do not fully tighten any screws until all are installed.

Step 4: Use a hand-held screwdriver to tighten the screws until they are snug. Do not over-tighten; the screws only need to be snug for the silicone to make a seal.

What are the plumbing requirements and drill-point sizes for the ATLANTIC PS7000?

The ATLANTIC PS7000 does not come with a pre-drilled pump outlet to allow flexibility in installation. Drill-points are provided on all models to show the proper location for drilling the outlet above the water level. Use the following hole saw sizes based on your PVC pipe size:

Pipe Size Hole Saw Size
2 inch PVC 2 1/2 inch Hole Saw
3 inch PVC 3 3/4 inch Hole Saw

It is recommended to install a Triton Check Valve between the pump and the supply line to prevent FilterFalls from draining when the pump is off.

How do I install the bulkhead for the ATLANTIC PS7000 FilterFalls components?

Step 1: Determine which panel to enter and use the provided drill-points to find the proper height. Use a hole saw to drill the opening.

Step 2: Remove the retaining nut and plastic friction washer from the bulkhead, leaving the rubber gasket on the body. Note that the nut has reverse threads; turn clockwise to loosen.

Step 3: From the inside of the FilterFalls, insert the threaded end of the bulkhead into the hole. This sandwiches the rubber gasket between the flange and the inside wall.

Step 4: Slip the friction washer over the threads on the outside and install the retaining nut. Hand-tighten and finish with a half turn from a wrench by turning counterclockwise.

Reference the following table for bulkhead sizes and hole saw requirements:

FilterFalls Model 1 1/2 inch Bulkhead 2 inch Bulkhead 3 inch Bulkhead Hole Saw Required
BF1600 X Pre-drilled
BF1900 X 3 inch Hole Saw
BF2600 X 3 inch Hole Saw
BF3800 X 4.5 inch Hole Saw

What are the steps for setting and leveling the ATLANTIC PS7000 FilterFalls?

Place the FilterFalls on undisturbed soil or use cinder blocks on undisturbed soil to raise it. Ensure the unit is level from side to side and tilted forward approximately 1/4 inch to prevent water from leaking out over the back of the enclosure.

Weight the unit down with stones before backfilling. Apply silicone to the threads of the Male Thread Adapter (MTA) and screw it into the bulkhead until tight. Use PVC glue to secure the PVC flex hose into the MTA. Do not completely backfill until plumbing and liner connections are finalized.

How do I attach the liner to the ATLANTIC PS7000 FilterFalls?

Step 1: Drape a minimum of 6 inches of liner over the top of the enclosure and use spring clips to hold it. Leave slack below the spillway.

Step 2: Use a sharp razor knife to cut the spillway opening in the liner using the inside of the spillway as a guide.

Step 3: Remove clips, pull the liner back, and clean the surfaces. Apply fish-safe RTV silicone to the face of the FilterFalls along the center line of the threaded inserts.

Step 4: Re-attach the liner with clips. Attach the liner flange starting with the center screw and working outward. Use a hand-held screwdriver only. Screws should be snug to make a seal; over-tightening can strip the inserts or crack the flange.

How do I use the ‘Perfect Cut’ chart for the Triton Check Valve in the ATLANTIC PS7000?

Locate your pump model and follow the row to the PS7000 column to find the reference mark. If the mark is a letter, use the 1 1/2 inch threaded end; if it is a number, use the 2 inch threaded end. Cut the discharge pipe at the indicated mark with a hacksaw or PVC saw.

How do I install the AF1000 Auto Fill Kit in the ATLANTIC PS7000?

Step 1: Determine the best side of the Skimmer for clearance and drill a 7/8 inch hole using a spade bit or hole saw at the provided drill point.

Step 2: Insert the Auto Fill valve, ensuring the gasket is on the inside (water side) and the plastic retaining nut is on the outside. Do not over-tighten the nut.

Step 3: Use the included fittings to connect to a garden hose, 1/2 inch irrigation line, or 1/2 inch Sch 40 PVC. Apply thread sealant to the 1/2 inch male threads.

Step 4: Adjust the water level by loosening the wing nut and raising or lowering the height of the float. The system supports an inlet pressure of 80 psi maximum and a flow rate of 0.5 to 1.5 gpm.
