How do I calculate the pond volume for my ATLANTIC PS3900 project?

It is important to know the estimated water volume to properly size your equipment and dose treatments accurately. Use the following formula to determine the total gallons in your pond:

Average Length x Average Width x Average Depth x 7.5 = Total Gallons in Pond

How do I determine the maximum stream surface area for my ATLANTIC PS3900 installation?

To prevent the pump from starving for water due to transitional volume, the stream surface area should be half of the pond surface area or less. Use the formulas below based on your known measurements:

Maximum Area Of Stream (If You Know Your Pond Size): Average Length of Pond x Average Width of Pond / 2 = Maximum Area of Stream

Minimum Area Of Pond (If You Know Your Stream Size): Average Length of Stream x Average Width of Stream x 2 = Minimum Area of Pond

What is the proper placement for the ATLANTIC PS3900 Skimmer and FilterFalls?

Whenever possible, it is best to position the Skimmer and FilterFalls directly across from each other at opposite ends of the pond. This setup creates a current that pulls surface debris into the Skimmer. If the Skimmer and FilterFalls are placed too close together or the pond has an unusual shape, dead areas can occur. These dead areas can be eliminated with the use of multiple falls or multiple skimmers.

What are the excavation depth requirements for setting the ATLANTIC PS3900 Skimmer?

The excavation should be a few inches wider and longer than the Skimmer body. The bottom of the hole should be level side-to-side and front-to-back. Refer to the table below for model-specific hole depths:

Model Approximate Depth of Hole
ATLANTIC PS3900 14 inches – 15 inches
PS4600 16 inches – 17 inches
PS7000 18 inches – 19 inches
PS15000 24 inches – 25 inches

How do I set and backfill the ATLANTIC PS3900 Skimmer enclosure?

Step 1. Place the Skimmer enclosure into the excavated hole. Ensure it is level front-to-back and side-to-side.

Step 2. Verify the water level is between 1 1/4 inches and 1 1/2 inches below the top of the weir door opening or even with the molded water level indicator.

Step 3. Ensure any unexcavated soil in front of the Skimmer is at least 10 inches below the water level.

Step 4. Place a few stones inside the enclosure to weigh it down and install the solid support bars.

Step 5. Loosely backfill the enclosure on all sides, lightly compacting as you go. Do not over-compact, as aggressive compaction may deform the enclosure.

How do I attach the liner to the ATLANTIC PS3900 Skimmer?

Step 1. Hold the liner against the face of the Skimmer, allowing a minimum of 2 inches to extend above the top. Leave slack in the liner below the weir opening to avoid strain if the soil settles.

Step 2. Clean the front surface of the Skimmer and the back of the liner.

Step 3. Clip the liner in place with spring clips. Use a sharp razor knife to cut a hole in the liner for the weir door, using the hole in the Skimmer face as a guide.

Step 4. Remove the clips and pull the liner away. Apply a consistent bead of fish-safe RTV Silicone Sealant around the weir door opening on all four sides, approximately 3/4 inches away from the opening directly on top of the bolt holes.

Step 5. Return the liner to its original position and replace the spring clips.

How do I attach the weir door to the ATLANTIC PS3900?

Step 1. Unlatch the weir door and lower it to the fully open position. Insert the assembly into the Skimmer opening and push the frame tight against the Skimmer face.

Step 2. Line up the holes and pierce the liner in the top corners using a nail or an awl.

Step 3. Loosely fasten the top corners using the supplied 1/4-20 machine screws and serrated flange nuts. Install two screws in the bottom corners next.

Step 4. Install the remaining screws. Once all are in place, use a hand-held screwdriver to tighten them. The screws only need to be snug to create a seal with the silicone; do not use a wrench.

How do I install the plumbing for the ATLANTIC PS3900 Skimmer?

The ATLANTIC PS3900 has pump discharge step fittings molded into each side. These are labeled for 1 1/2 inch or 2 inch PVC pipe.

Step 1. Choose the fitting side that best suits your installation.

Step 2. Use a PVC saw or hacksaw to remove the end of the step fitting, following the molded cut line for your specific pipe size.

Step 3. Push the PVC supply line through the step fitting, allowing approximately 10 inches of pipe to enter the Skimmer enclosure.

How do I install the bulkhead for the ATLANTIC PS3900 FilterFalls?

Step 1. Choose which panel of the FilterFalls to enter and use the provided drill-points as a guide for height.

Step 2. Remove the retaining nut and plastic friction washer from the bulkhead, leaving the rubber gasket on the body. Note that the nut has reverse threads; turn clockwise to loosen.

Step 3. From the inside of the FilterFalls, insert the threaded end into the hole. This sandwiches the rubber gasket between the flange and the inside wall.

Step 4. Slip the friction washer over the threads on the outside and install the retaining nut. Tighten by hand and finish with a half turn from a wrench. Turn counterclockwise to tighten.

How should the ATLANTIC PS3900 FilterFalls be set and leveled?

The FilterFalls should be placed on undisturbed soil if possible. If elevated, compact the area thoroughly to prevent settling. Level the unit from side to side and tilt it slightly forward about 1/4 inch to ensure water does not leak out over the back. Weigh the unit down with rocks before backfilling and completing plumbing connections. Do not completely backfill until plumbing and the liner are attached.

How do I attach the liner to the ATLANTIC PS3900 FilterFalls?

Step 1. Drape a minimum of 6 inches of liner over the top of the enclosure and secure with spring clips. Leave slack below the spillway.

Step 2. Use a sharp razor knife to cut the spillway opening in the liner, using the inside of the spillway as a guide.

Step 3. Pull the liner away and clean both the enclosure face and the liner.

Step 4. Apply a bead of fish-safe RTV silicone to the face of the FilterFalls along the center line of the threaded inserts.

Step 5. Re-attach the liner with clips and install the liner flange. Start with the center screw and work outward. Pierce the liner with a nail before inserting screws if needed. Tighten with a hand-held screwdriver until snug; do not over-tighten.
