Disconnect the AC power and peripherals before cleaning. Wipe the ASUS S501SER using a clean cellulose sponge or chamois cloth dampened with solution of nonabrasive detergent and a few drops of warm water then remove any extra moisture with a dry cloth.

The ASUS S501SER is a tool-less design. You can disassemble the chassis by removing knurled thumb screws by hand, and replace hard disc drive and optical disc drive easily.

After replacement, please assemble the ASUS S501SER back to the original state.

Note: The keyboard is designed for shared use with both Desktop and AIO systems. Please note that the Brightness Down and Brightness Up keys are exclusively for AIO systems and might not function when used with a Desktop system.

The front panel features are:

1. HDD indicator: The LED lights up or blinks to indicate the status of the HDD.

2. Power button: Press this button to turn on your computer.

3. Headphone port: This port connects to a headphone.

4. Audio combo jack: This port connects to a headphone or speaker. You can also connect your headset or an external microphone.

5. USB 2.0 ports: These Universal Serial Bus 2.0 (USB 2.0) ports connect to USB 2.0 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

6. USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports: The Universal Serial Bus 3.2 Gen 2 (USB 3.2 Gen 2) ports connect to USB 3.2 Gen 2 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

7. SD card reader (optional): Insert an SD card into the slot.

8. Optical disk drive eject button: Press this button to eject the optical disk drive tray.

9. 5.25-inch optical disk drive bay (optional): There is an optical disk drive in this bay.

The rear panel ports and connectors are:

1. VGA port: This port is for VGA-compatible devices such as a VGA monitor.

2. HDMI™ port: This port is for a High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI™) connector, and is HDCP compliant allowing playback of HD DVD, Blu-ray, and other protected content.

3. Flex I/O port (optional): This is an HDMI 2.1 TMDS port, DP 1.4 port, or VGA port.

4. USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports: The Universal Serial Bus 3.2 Gen 1 (USB 3.2 Gen 1) ports connect to USB 3.2 Gen 1 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

5. USB 2.0 ports: These Universal Serial Bus 2.0 (USB 2.0) ports connect to USB 2.0 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others. When USB Wake is enabled in the BIOS, the system will turn on or wake from hibernation when a USB mouse or keyboard connected to this port is used. (This option is disabled by default.)

6. Microphone port (pink): This port connects to a microphone.

7. Line Out port (lime): This port connects to a headphone or speaker. In a 4, 5.1, or 7.1-channel configuration, the function of this port becomes Front Speaker Out.

8. Line In port (light blue): This port connects to a tape, CD, DVD player, or other audio sources.

9. Power connector: Plug the power cord to this connector.

10. Air vents: These vents allow air ventilation. DO NOT block the air vents on the chassis. Always provide proper ventilation for your computer.

11. Expansion slot brackets: Remove the expansion slot bracket when installing an expansion card. ASUS Graphics Card is available on selected models. The display output ports on the optional ASUS Graphics Card may vary with different models.

12. Serial port (optional): This 9-pin COM port is for pointing devices or other serial devices.

13. LAN (RJ-45) port: This port allows Gigabit connection to a Local Area Network (LAN) through a network hub.

The audio configuration for 2, 4, 5.1, or 7.1-channel setups is:

The ASUS S501SER comes with two Double Data Rate 5 (DDR5) Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets. Follow the installation sequence below to ensure system stability and avoid possible booting up failure:

You must also install DIMMs with the same capacity from the same manufacturer in the slots of the same channel. The capacity configurations are:

To install memory in your computer:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Unplug all cables from your computer.

3. Open your computer case.

4. Remove the graphics card.

5. Locate an empty DIMM socket.

6. Press down and outward on the DIMM ejector(s) to unlock the DIMM socket.

7. Align the notch on the bottom edge of the DIMM with the key of the DIMM socket, and then firmly insert the DIMM into the socket until the ejector(s) snap(s) back into place.

8. Install the graphics card.

9. Close your computer case.

To install a graphics card in your computer:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Unplug all cables from your computer.

3. Open your computer case and locate PCIEX16 slot.

4. Align the notch on your graphics card with the key of the slot, and then insert the card into the slot.

5. The ejector will snap back into place automatically.

6. Use a screw driver and a screw to lock the graphics card on the chassis.

7. (Optional) Connect a proper power supply plug to the graphics card.

To connect an external monitor using the onboard display output ports:

1. Connect a monitor to a display output port on the rear panel of your computer.

2. Plug the monitor to a power source.

Note: If your computer comes with an ASUS Graphics Card, the graphics card is set as the primary display device in the BIOS. Hence, connect your monitor to a display output port on the graphics card.

Connect a USB keyboard and a USB mouse to the USB ports on the rear panel of your computer.

Connect one end of the power cord to the power connector on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a power source.

For safety purposes, ONLY connect the power cord to a grounded electrical outlet.

To turn your computer ON:

1. Turn your monitor ON.

2. Press the power button on your computer.

3. Wait until the operating system loads automatically.

To enable fast startup in Shutdown settings:

Enter Control Panel in the search bar and open it (View by: Category), select Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power button does, click Change settings that are currently unavailable, check Turn on fast startup (recommended) and click Save changes.

To connect a USB storage device: Insert the USB storage device to your computer.

When you connect an external audio device to your ASUS S501SER, enable the audio device output to ensure a clear audio quality.

To change to the external audio output:

1. Connect an external audio device such as earphone or speaker to the rear Line Out port. The Audio Manager screen automatically pops up.

2. Tick Front Speaker Out, then click OK.

3. Tick Line In, then click OK. The audio output will now be from the external audio device.

When using multiple monitors, you are allowed to set display modes. You can use the additional monitor as a duplicate of your main display, or as an extension to enlarge your Windows desktop.

To set up multiple displays:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Connect the two monitors to your computer and connect the power cords to the monitors.

3. Turn on your computer.

4. From the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

5. Configure the settings for your displays.

Note: For some graphics cards, only the monitor that is set to be the primary display has display during POST. The dual display function works only under Windows.

Connect a High Definition TV (HDTV) to the HDMI™ port of your computer.

Note: To get the best display performance, ensure that your HDMI™ cable is less than 15 meters.

To maintain the proper posture:

Position your computer chair to make sure that your elbows are at or slightly above the keyboard to get a comfortable typing position.

Adjust the height of your chair to make sure that your knees are slightly higher than your hips to relax the backs of your thighs. If necessary, use a footrest to raise the level of your knees.

Adjust the back of your chair so that the base of your spine is firmly supported and angled slightly backward.

Sit upright with your knees, elbows and hips at an approximately 90° angle when you are at the PC.

Place the monitor directly in front of you, and turn the top of the monitor screen even with your eye level so that your eyes look slightly downward.

Keep the mouse close to the keyboard, and if necessary, use a wrist rest for support to reduce the pressure on your wrists while typing.

Use your ASUS S501SER in a comfortably-lit area, and keep it away from sources of glare such as windows and straight sunlight.

Take regular mini-breaks from using your ASUS S501SER.

To use the memory card:

1. Insert the memory card into the card slot.

2. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files.

3. When finished, right-click the memory card drive icon on the Computer screen, click Eject, and then remove the card.

Note: A memory card is keyed so that it fits in only one direction. DO NOT force a card into a slot to avoid damaging the card.

Note: You can place media in one or more of the card slots and use each media independently. Place only one memory card in a slot at one time.

Note: Never remove cards while or immediately after reading, copying, formatting, or deleting data on the card or else data loss may occur.

Note: To prevent data loss, use “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” in the Windows® notification area before removing the memory card.

To insert an optical disc:

1. While your system is on, press the eject button on the drive bay cover to open the tray.

2. Place the disc on the optical drive with the label side outward if the desktop is positioned vertically and the label side up if the desktop is positioned horizontally.

3. Push the tray gently to close it.

4. Select a program from the AutoPlay window to access your files.

Note: If AutoPlay is NOT enabled in your computer, to access the data on an optical disc: Click File Explorer from the Start menu, and then double-click the CD/DVD drive icon.

To remove an optical disc:

1. While the system is on, do either of the following to eject the tray:

Press the eject button on the drive bay cover. OR

From the Start menu, click File Explorer, right-click the CD/DVD drive icon, and click Eject.

2. Remove the disc from the disc tray.

You can enable or disable the front and rear USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C®, USB 3.2 Gen 2, USB 3.2 Gen 1, and USB 2.0 ports from the BIOS Setup.

To disable or enable the USB ports:

1. Press to enter the BIOS Setup at startup.

2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press to enter the Advanced Mode. From the Advanced Mode screen, click Advanced Mode > Security > I/O Interface Security > USB Interface Security > USB Port Control.

3. Select the USB port that you want to enable or disable.

4. Press to enable or disable the selected USB port.

5. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes made.

To set a password for your HDD from the BIOS Setup:

1. Press to enter the BIOS Setup at startup.

2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press to enter the Advanced Mode. From the Advanced Mode screen, click Security > HDDx: [name of HDD] to open the HDD Password screen.

3. Select the Set Master Password item and press .

4. From the Create New Password box, key in a password, then press .

5. Confirm the password when prompted.

6. Select the Set User Password item and press .

7. Follow steps 4 and 5 to set the user password.

8. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes made.

Note: Take note of this password, which you would need to access the HDD.

To change the password for your HDD from the BIOS Setup:

1. Follow steps 1 and 2 of setting the HDD password to open the HDD Password screen.

2. Select the Set Master Password item and press .

3. From the Enter Current Password box, key in the current password, then press .

4. From the Create New Password box, key in a new password, then press .

5. Confirm the password when prompted.

6. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes made.

To clear the user password, follow the same steps as in changing a user password, but press when prompted to create/confirm the password. After you clear the password, the Set User Password item on top of the screen shows Not Installed.

To allow a keyboard or mouse to wake up your computer:

1. Restart your computer. When the ASUS logo appears, press to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press to enter Advanced Mode. From the Advanced Mode screen, click Advanced.

3. Go to Advanced Power Management > ErP Support / ErP Ready, then select Disable or Enable (S5).

4. Go to Advanced Power Management > Power On By USB Keyboard/Mouse, then select Enable.

5. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes made.

Use an RJ-45 cable to connect your computer to a DSL/cable modem or a local area network (LAN).

To connect via a DSL/cable modem:

1. Set up your DSL/cable modem.

2. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a DSL/cable modem.

3. Turn on the DSL/cable modem and your computer.

4. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings.

To connect via a LAN:

1. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your LAN.

To configure a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection:

1. Launch Network and Sharing Center in either of these two ways:

a) From the taskbar, right-click the network icon, then click Open Network and Sharing Center.

b) From the Start menu, click Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > Network and Sharing Center.

2. From the Open Network and Sharing Center screen, click Change Adapter settings.

3. Right-click on your LAN and select Properties.

4. Click Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.

5. Click Obtain an IP address automatically and click OK.

6. Return to the Network and Sharing Center and then click Set up a new connection or network.

7. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next.

8. Select Broadband (PPPoE) and click Next.

9. Follow the next onscreen instructions to complete the setup.

To configure a static IP network connection:

1. Repeat steps 1 to 4 of the previous section (Configuring a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection).

2. Click Use the following IP address.

3. Enter the IP address, Subnet mask and Gateway from your service provider.

4. If needed, enter the preferred DNS Server address and alternative address.

5. When done, click OK.

You can open programs in two ways:

Position your mouse pointer over the program then click to launch it.

Use the arrow keys to browse through the programs. Press ENTER to launch it.

You can launch Windows® apps in two ways:

Position your mouse pointer over the app then click to launch it.

Use the arrow keys to browse through the apps. Press ENTER to launch an app.

Connect your computer to a Wi-Fi network by using the following steps:

1. Click/Tap the Wi-Fi icon from the taskbar to enable Wi-Fi.

2. Select an access point from the list of available Wi-Fi connections.

3. Select Connect to start the network connection.

Note: You may be prompted to enter a security key to activate the Wi-Fi connection.

You need to pair your computer with other Bluetooth-enabled devices to enable data transfers. Connect your devices by using the following steps:

1. Launch Settings from the Start menu.

2. Select Bluetooth & devices > Add device to search for Bluetooth-enabled devices. (for Windows® 11)

3. Select a device from the list to pair your computer with the device.

Note: For some Bluetooth-enabled devices, you may be prompted to key in the passcode of your computer.

You can turn off your computer by doing either of the following procedures:

Launch the Start menu, select the power icon then select Shut down to do a normal shutdown.

From the log-in screen, select the power icon then select Shut down.

Press alt + f4 to launch Shut Down Windows. Select Shut down from the drop-down list then select OK.

If your computer is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four (4) seconds until your computer turns off.

You can put your computer to the Off mode with fast startup enabled by ensuring fast startup is enabled via Control Panel (View by: Category) > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power button does, clicking Change settings that are currently unavailable, checking Turn on fast startup (recommended) and clicking Save changes. Then follow these steps:

Launch the Start menu, select the power icon then select Shut down to do a normal shutdown.

From the log-in screen, select the power icon then select Shut down.

Press alt + f4 to launch Shut Down Windows. Select Shut down from the drop-down list then select OK.

If your computer is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four (4) seconds until your computer turns off.

You can put your computer to the lowest power mode in the following way:

Enter Control Panel in the search bar and open it (View by: Category), select Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power button does, click Change settings that are currently unavailable, uncheck Turn on fast startup (recommended) and click Save changes. Then follow these steps:

Launch the Start menu, select the power icon then select Shut down to do a normal shutdown.

From the log-in screen, select the power icon then select Shut down.

Press alt + f4 to launch Shut Down Windows. Select Shut down from the drop-down list then select OK.

If your computer is unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four (4) seconds until your computer turns off.

You can put your computer to Sleep mode in two ways:

Launch the Start menu, select the power icon then select Sleep to put your computer to sleep.

From the log-in screen, select the power icon then select Sleep.

Press alt + f4 to launch Shut Down Windows. Select Sleep from the drop-down list then select OK.

You can also put your computer to Sleep mode by pressing the power button once.

Check if your computer is properly connected.

Check if the wall outlet is functioning.

Check if the Power Supply Unit is switched on.

Do the following to close the programs that are not responding:

1. Simultaneously press + + keys on the keyboard, then click Task Manager.

2. Select the program that is not responding, then click End Task.

If the keyboard is not responding, press and hold the Power button on your chassis until the computer shuts down. Then press the Power button to turn it on.

Ensure that you enter the correct network security key for the wireless network you want to connect to.

Connect the external antennas (optional) to the antenna connectors on the ASUS WLAN Card and place the antennas on the top of your computer chassis for the best wireless performance.

Ensure that you follow the printing on the motherboard and insert the M.2 Wi-Fi card / M.2 SSD module into the proper M.2 slot.

Check if the Number Lock LED is off. When the Number Lock LED is on, the keys on the number key pad are used to input numbers only. Press the Number Lock key to turn the LED off if you want to use the arrow keys on the number key pad.

Check if the monitor is powered on.

Ensure that your monitor is properly connected to the video output port on your computer.

If your computer comes with a discrete graphics card, ensure that you connect your monitor to a video output port on the discrete graphics card.

Check if any of the pins on the monitor video connector is bent. If you discover bent pins, replace the monitor video connector cable.

Check if your monitor is plugged to a power source properly.

Ensure that both monitors are powered on.

During POST, only the monitor connected to the VGA port has display. The dual display function works only under Windows.

When a graphics card is installed on your computer, ensure that you connect the monitors to the output port on the graphics card.

Check if the multiple displays settings are correct.

The first time you connect your USB storage device to your computer, Windows automatically installs a driver for it. Wait for a while and go to My Computer to check if the USB storage device is detected.

Connect your USB storage device to another computer to test if the USB storage device is broken or malfunctions.

You can use Windows® 11 Refresh your PC without affecting your files recovery option to restore or undo changes to your computer’s system settings without affecting your personal data such as documents or photos. To use this recovery option, click Settings > Update & recovery > Recovery from the Start menu, select Refresh your PC without affecting your files, and click Get started.

It is caused by the different resolutions of your monitor and your HDTV. Adjust the screen resolution to fit your HDTV.

To change the screen resolution: From the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

Ensure that you connect your speakers to the Line out port (lime) on the front panel or the rear panel.

Check if your speaker is connected to an electrical source and turned on.

Adjust your speakers’ volume.

Ensure that your computer’s system sounds are not Muted. If it is muted, the volume icon is displayed as muted. To enable the system sounds, click the volume icon from the Windows notification area, then click the speaker icon.

If it is not muted, click the speaker icon and drag the slider to adjust the volume.

Connect your speakers to another computer to test if the speakers are working properly.

Check if the disc is placed with the label side facing up.

Check if the disc is centered in the tray, especially for the discs with non-standard size or shape.

Check if the disc is scratched or damaged.

1. From the Start menu, click File Explorer.

2. Right-click the DVD RW Drive icon, then click Eject from the menu.

Possible Cause: Incorrect power voltage

Action: Set your computer’s power voltage switch to your area’s power requirements. Adjust the voltage settings. Ensure that the power cord is unplugged from the power outlet.

Possible Cause: Your computer is not turned on.

Action: Press the power key on the front panel to ensure that your computer is turned on.

Possible Cause: Your computer’s power cord is not properly connected.

Action: Ensure that the power cord is properly connected. Use other compatible power cord.

Possible Cause: The signal cable is not connected to the correct VGA port on your computer.

Action: Connect the signal cable to the correct display port (onboard VGA or discrete VGA port). If you are using a discrete VGA card, connect the signal cable to the discrete VGA port.

Possible Cause: Signal cable problems

Action: Try connecting to another monitor.

Possible Cause: The LAN cable is not connected.

Action: Connect the LAN cable to your computer.

Possible Cause: LAN cable problems

Action: Ensure the LAN LED is on. If not, try another LAN cable. If it still does not work, contact the ASUS service center.

Possible Cause: Your computer is not properly connected to a router or hub.

Action: Ensure that your computer is properly connected to a router or hub.

Possible Cause: Problems caused by the anti-virus software

Action: Close the anti-virus software.

Possible Cause: Driver problems

Action: Reinstall the LAN driver

Possible Cause: Speaker or headphone is connected to the wrong port.

Action: Refer to your computer’s User Guide for the correct port. Disconnect and reconnect the speaker to your computer.

Possible Cause: Speaker or headphone does not work.

Action: Try using another speaker or headphone.

Possible Cause: The front and back audio ports do not work.

Action: Try both the front and back audio ports. If one port failed, check if the port is set to multi-channel.

Possible Cause: Driver problems

Action: Reinstall the audio driver

Possible Cause: Too many programs are running.

Action: Close some of the programs.

Possible Cause: Computer virus attack

Action: Use an anti-virus software to scan for viruses and repair your computer. Reinstall the operating system.

Possible Cause: Hard disk drive failure

Action: Replace with a new hard disk drive.

Possible Cause: Memory module problems

Action: Replace with compatible memory modules. Remove the extra memory modules that you have installed, then try again.

Possible Cause: There is not enough air ventilation for your computer.

Action: Move your computer to an area with better air flow.

Possible Cause: Incompatible softwares are installed.

Action: Reinstall the OS and reinstall compatible softwares.

Possible Cause: An expansion card other than a graphics card and a storage device is installed in PCIEX16_1.

Action: Install this expansion card into any other PCIe slot and reboot the system.

Possible Cause: Your computer is booting up.

Action: It is normal. The fan runs on its full speed when the computer is powering on. The fan slows down after entering the OS.

Possible Cause: The BIOS settings have been changed.

Action: Restore the BIOS to its default settings.

Possible Cause: Old BIOS version

Action: Update the BIOS to the latest version.

Possible Cause: The CPU fan has been replaced.

Action: Ensure that you are using a compatible or ASUS-recommended CPU fan.

Possible Cause: There is not enough air ventilation for the computer.

Action: Ensure that your computer is working in an area with good air flow.

Possible Cause: The system temperature is too high.

Action: Update the BIOS. If you know how to reinstall the motherboard, try to clean the inner space of the chassis.
