The front panel of the ASUS D701SER includes the following features:

1. HDD indicator: The LED lights up or blinks to indicate the status of the HDD.

2. Power button: Press this button to turn on your computer.

3. Headphone port: This port connects to a headphone.

4. Audio combo jack: This port connects to a headphone or speaker. You can also connect your headset or an external microphone.

5. USB 2.0 ports: These ports connect to USB 2.0 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

6. USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports: These ports connect to USB 3.2 Gen 2 devices such as a mouse, printer, scanner, camera, PDA, and others.

7. USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® port: This port connects to USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® devices. The output voltage is 5V, 3A.

8. SD card reader (optional): Insert an SD card into the slot.

9. Optical disk drive eject button: Press this button to eject the optical disk drive tray.

The rear panel of the ASUS D701SER is equipped with the following:

1. VGA port: For VGA-compatible devices such as a VGA monitor.

The LAN port has two LEDs with the following indications:

Your ASUS D701SER has four DDR5 DIMM sockets. Follow the installation sequence below to ensure system stability. It is recommended to install DIMMs with the same capacity from the same manufacturer in the slots of the same channel.

Recommended memory configurations:

To install memory:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Unplug all cables from your computer.

3. Open your computer case.

4. Remove the graphics card if necessary.

5. Locate an empty DIMM socket.

6. Press down and outward on the DIMM ejector(s) to unlock the DIMM socket.

7. Align the notch on the bottom edge of the DIMM with the key of the DIMM socket, and then firmly insert the DIMM into the socket until the ejector(s) snap(s) back into place.

8. Install the graphics card if you removed it.

9. Close your computer case.

To install a graphics card in your ASUS D701SER, follow these steps:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Unplug all cables from your computer.

3. Open your computer case and locate the PCIEX16 slot.

4. Align the notch on your graphics card with the key of the slot, and then insert the card into the slot.

5. The ejector will snap back into place automatically.

6. Use a screwdriver and a screw to lock the graphics card on the chassis.

7. (Optional) Connect a proper power supply plug to the graphics card if it requires one.

To set up your ASUS D701SER, connect the main hardware devices:

1. Connect an external monitor: Connect a monitor to a display output port (like VGA, HDMI™, or DisplayPort) on the rear panel of your computer. If your computer has a separate graphics card, connect the monitor to a port on the graphics card. Plug the monitor into a power source.

2. Connect a USB keyboard and mouse: Connect a USB keyboard and a USB mouse to the USB ports on the rear panel of your computer.

3. Connect the power cord: Connect one end of the power cord to the power connector on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to a grounded electrical outlet.

Once everything is connected, you can turn on your computer.

After setting up your computer, follow these steps to turn it on:

1. Turn your monitor ON.

2. Press the power button on your computer.

3. Wait until the operating system loads automatically.

To enable fast startup in Windows:

1. Enter “Control Panel” in the search bar and open it.

2. Set “View by:” to “Category”.

3. Select Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Choose what the power button does.

4. Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”.

5. Check the box for “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”.

6. Click “Save changes”.

If fast startup is disabled, when you shut down the computer, it shuts down to the S5 power state.

• USB Storage Device: Simply insert the USB storage device into any of the available USB ports on the front or rear panels of your computer.

• Headphones and Microphone (Front Panel): You can connect a headphone and microphone or a headset with a combo jack to the audio ports on the front panel.

• Speakers (Rear Panel): Your desktop PC supports 2, 4, 5.1, and 7.1-channel stereo speakers via the audio I/O ports on the rear panel. Connect the speaker plugs to the corresponding color-coded ports (lime for Line Out/Front Speaker, etc.).

• Switching to External Audio: When you connect an external audio device like headphones or speakers to the rear Line Out port, the Audio Manager will pop up. Select “Front Speaker Out” and click OK. The audio output will now be from the external device.

To set up multiple displays on your ASUS D701SER:

1. Turn off your computer.

2. Connect two monitors to the display output ports on your computer. Also, connect the power cords to the monitors.

3. Turn on your computer.

4. From the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

5. Configure the settings for your displays, such as choosing to duplicate or extend your desktop.

Note: For some graphics cards, only the monitor set as the primary display will show a display during POST (Power-On Self-Test). The dual display function works only under Windows.

You can connect a High Definition TV (HDTV) to the HDMI™ port of your ASUS D701SER. You will need an HDMI™ cable, which is purchased separately. For the best display performance, ensure that your HDMI™ cable is less than 15 meters long.

To maintain proper posture and avoid physical discomfort:

• Position your chair so your elbows are at or slightly above the keyboard.

• Adjust your chair height so your knees are slightly higher than your hips. Use a footrest if necessary.

• Adjust the chair back to firmly support the base of your spine, angled slightly backward.

• Sit upright with your knees, elbows, and hips at an approximate 90° angle.

• Place the monitor directly in front of you, with the top of the screen at eye level so your eyes look slightly downward.

• Keep the mouse close to the keyboard and use a wrist rest if needed.

• Use your PC in a comfortably lit area, away from sources of glare.

• Take regular mini-breaks.

Using the Memory Card Reader (Optional):

1. Insert the memory card into the correct card slot. A memory card only fits in one direction; do not force it.

2. An AutoPlay window may appear to access your files. If not, open File Explorer from the Start menu and double-click the memory card icon.

3. When finished, right-click the memory card drive icon, click “Eject,” and then remove the card. To prevent data loss, always use the “Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media” option in the notification area before removing the card.

Using the Optical Drive (on selected models only):

To insert a disc:

1. While the system is on, press the eject button on the drive bay cover to open the tray.

2. Place the disc on the tray with the label side facing outward.

3. Push the tray gently to close it.

To remove a disc:

1. Press the eject button on the drive bay cover, OR from the Start menu, click File Explorer, right-click the CD/DVD drive icon, and click Eject.

2. Remove the disc from the tray.

Configuring USB Ports in BIOS:

1. Restart your computer and press the key at startup to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the EZ Mode screen, press to enter Advanced Mode.

3. Navigate to Advanced Mode > Security > I/O Interface Security > USB Interface Security > USB Port Control.

4. Select the USB port you want to configure and press to enable or disable it.

5. Click Exit and select “Save Changes & Reset” to save your changes.

Setting an HDD Password in BIOS:

1. Enter the BIOS Setup by pressing at startup.

2. Press to enter Advanced Mode.

3. Navigate to Security > HDDx: [name of HDD] to open the HDD Password screen.

4. Select “Set Master Password” and press .

5. Create a new password and confirm it when prompted.

6. Select “Set User Password” and press , then follow the prompts to set the user password.

7. Click Exit and select “Save Changes & Reset” to save.

You can enable this feature in the BIOS Setup:

1. Restart your computer. When the ASUS logo appears, press to enter the BIOS Setup.

2. From the BIOS Setup EZ Mode screen, press to enter Advanced Mode.

3. Go to Advanced > Advanced Power Management > ErP Support / ErP Ready, then select Disable or Enable (S5).

4. Go to Advanced Power Management > Power On By USB Keyboard/Mouse, then select Enable.

5. Click Exit and select Save Changes & Reset to save the changes made.

You can use an RJ-45 cable for a wired connection.

Connecting via a DSL/cable modem:

1. Set up your DSL/cable modem according to its documentation.

2. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to the modem.

3. Turn on the modem and your computer.

4. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings.

Connecting via a local area network (LAN):

1. Connect one end of an RJ-45 cable to the LAN (RJ-45) port on the rear panel of your computer and the other end to your LAN (e.g., a wall port or router).

2. Turn on your computer.

3. Configure the necessary Internet connection settings.

1. Launch the Network and Sharing Center. You can do this by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting “Open Network and Sharing Center”.

2. In the Network and Sharing Center, click “Change Adapter settings”.

3. Right-click on your LAN connection (e.g., Ethernet) and select Properties.

4. Click “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and then click Properties.

5. Select “Obtain an IP address automatically” and “Obtain DNS server address automatically”, then click OK.

6. If you are using PPPoE, return to the Network and Sharing Center and click “Set up a new connection or network”.

7. Select “Connect to the Internet” and click Next.

8. Select “Broadband (PPPoE)” and click Next.

9. Follow the next onscreen instructions to complete the setup, which will likely require a username and password from your Internet Service Provider.

1. Follow steps 1 to 4 from the dynamic IP configuration guide (Launch Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter settings > LAN Properties > IPv4 Properties).

2. Select “Use the following IP address”.

3. Enter the IP address, Subnet mask, and Default gateway provided by your service provider or network administrator.

4. Select “Use the following DNS server addresses”.

5. Enter the Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS server addresses if needed.

6. When done, click OK.

Connecting to Wireless Networks (Wi-Fi):

1. Click the Wi-Fi icon from the taskbar.

2. Select an access point from the list of available networks.

3. Select Connect and enter a security key if prompted.

Pairing with Bluetooth Devices:

1. Launch Settings from the Start menu.

2. Select Bluetooth & devices > Add device to search for Bluetooth-enabled devices.

3. Select a device from the list to pair your computer with it.

Turning Your Computer Off:

• From the Start menu, select the power icon then select Shut down.

• Press Alt + F4 to launch the Shut Down Windows dialog, select Shut down, then click OK.

• If unresponsive, press and hold the power button for at least four seconds.

Putting Your Computer to Sleep:

• From the Start menu, select the power icon then select Sleep.

• Press Alt + F4, select Sleep from the drop-down list, then click OK.

• You can also put your computer to Sleep mode by pressing the power button once.

• Check if your computer is properly connected to the power outlet.

• Check if the wall outlet is functioning by plugging in another device.

• Check if the Power Supply Unit switch (if available) is turned on. Refer to the “Turning your computer ON” section in Chapter 1 of the user guide.

• Ensure the power cord is properly connected and try another compatible power cord.

• To close unresponsive programs, press + + simultaneously, then click Task Manager. Select the program that is not responding, then click End Task.

• If the keyboard is not responding, press and hold the Power button on your chassis until the computer shuts down. Then press the Power button again to turn it on.

• Other causes could be too many programs running, a computer virus, hard disk drive failure, memory module problems, insufficient air ventilation, or incompatible software. Addressing these issues may require closing programs, running antivirus software, or contacting a service center.

Check if the Number Lock LED is on. When the Number Lock LED is on, the keys on the number keypad are used to input numbers only. Press the Number Lock key to turn the LED off if you want to use the arrow keys.

• Check if the monitor is powered on.

• Ensure that your monitor is properly connected to the correct video output port on your computer. If you are using a discrete graphics card, connect the signal cable to the discrete VGA port.

• Check if any of the pins on the monitor video connector are bent. If so, replace the cable.

• Ensure your monitor is properly plugged into a power source.

• Try connecting to another monitor to see if the issue is with the original monitor.

• Ensure that both monitors are powered on.

• During POST (Power-On Self-Test), only the monitor connected to the primary onboard port (often VGA) may have a display. The dual display function works only under Windows.

• If a graphics card is installed, ensure that you connect the monitors to the output ports on the graphics card.

• Check if the multiple displays settings in Windows are configured correctly.

The first time you connect your USB storage device to your computer, Windows automatically installs a driver for it. Wait for a moment, then go to “My Computer” or “This PC” to check if the USB storage device is detected.

If it’s still not detected, connect your USB storage device to another computer to test if the device itself is broken or malfunctioning.

You can use the Windows 11 “Refresh your PC without affecting your files” recovery option. To use this, click Settings > Update & recovery > Recovery from the Start menu, select “Refresh your PC without affecting your files”, and click “Get started”. This will restore or undo changes to your computer’s system settings without affecting personal data like documents or photos.

This is often caused by a mismatch in screen resolutions between your computer and the HDTV. Adjust the screen resolution to fit your HDTV. To change the screen resolution, go to the Start menu, click Settings > System > Display.

• Ensure your speakers are connected to the Line out port (lime) on the front or rear panel.

• Check if your speaker is connected to an electrical source and turned on.

• Adjust your speakers’ volume control.

• Ensure your computer’s system sounds are not muted. If the volume icon is displayed with an ‘x’, it is muted. Click the icon in the Windows notification area to unmute and adjust the volume slider.

• Connect your speakers to another computer to test if they are working properly.

If the drive cannot read a disc:

• Check if the disc is placed with the label side facing up.

• Check if the disc is centered in the tray, especially for discs with non-standard sizes or shapes.

• Check if the disc is scratched or damaged.

If the drive eject button is not responding:

1. From the Start menu, click File Explorer.

2. Right-click the DVD RW Drive icon, then click Eject from the menu.

• Ensure the LAN cable is connected to your computer.

• Ensure the LAN LED on the port is on. If not, try another LAN cable. If it still does not work, contact the ASUS service center.

• Ensure your computer is properly connected to a router or hub.

• Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the correct LAN settings.

• Temporarily disable or close any anti-virus software to see if it is causing the problem.

• Try reinstalling the LAN driver.

System is too slow:

• Too many programs may be running. Close some of the programs.

• Your computer may have a virus. Use anti-virus software to scan for and repair viruses. You may need to reinstall the operating system.

System hangs or freezes:

• This could be due to hard disk drive failure or memory module problems, which may require servicing or replacement of parts.

• There may not be enough air ventilation for your computer. Move your computer to an area with better airflow.

• Incompatible software may be installed. Reinstall the OS and compatible software.

System does not boot up:

• If an expansion card other than a graphics card and a storage device is installed in the primary PCIEX16_1 slot, it may prevent booting. Install this expansion card into any other PCIe slot and reboot the system.

Too noisy right after turning on:

• This is normal. The fan runs at its full speed when the computer is powering on and slows down after entering the OS.

Too noisy when in use:

• The BIOS settings may have been changed. Restore the BIOS to its default settings.

• The BIOS version might be old. Update the BIOS to the latest version.

• The CPU fan may have been replaced. Ensure you are using a compatible or ASUS-recommended CPU fan.

• There may not be enough air ventilation. Ensure your computer is in an area with good airflow.

• The system temperature may be too high. This could require updating the BIOS, cleaning the chassis interior, or contacting the ASUS Service Center for assistance.
