When you receive your ANTHEM MRX 740, please check that you have all the items listed below. It is important to keep the packing materials in case the unit needs to be transported in the future.

The ANTHEM MRX 740 comes programmed from the factory with thirteen inputs. You can change these or create up to 30 virtual inputs. The default settings are as follows:

The front panel of the ANTHEM MRX 740 features several controls for basic operation:

1. Display: Shows current status, settings, and menus.

2. Remote control sensor location: Aim the remote control here.

3. Volume control and menu navigation: A large knob to adjust volume and navigate through menu items.

4. Headphone jack: For connecting headphones.

5. Power / standby: Toggles the unit on or into standby mode.

6. Mute: Mutes or unmutes the audio output.

7. Next input or item (NEXT): Selects the next available input or moves to the next item in a menu.

8. Previous input or item (PREV): Selects the previous input or moves to the previous item in a menu.

9. Selection confirmation (SELECT): Confirms a selection in the menu.

10. Setup menu access (MENU): Enters the main setup menu.

The remote control for your ANTHEM MRX 740 has the following functions:

1. Main zone power on: Turns on the main zone.

2. Standby: Puts the unit in standby mode.

3. Bass: Adjusts bass levels.

4. Treble: Adjusts treble levels.

5. Numeric keypad: For direct input.

6. Preset: Accesses presets.

7. Setup menu: Opens the setup menu.

8. Navigation controls: (Up/Down/Left/Right/SELECT) for menu navigation.

9. Clear: For deleting input configurations and clearing entries.

10. Dolby Volume and Dolby Digital Dynamics (DYN): Toggles Dolby processing modes.

11. Volume: Adjusts the volume up or down.

12. Zone 2 Controls: Power, Volume, and Input for Zone 2.

13. Backlight: Illuminates the remote buttons.

14. PG/PR (DTS:X Dialog Level Control): Adjusts dialogue level for DTS:X content.

15. Lip-sync: Adjusts audio delay.

16. Mute: Mutes the audio.

17. Surround mode toggle (MODE): Cycles through listening modes.

18. Last: Returns to the previous setting or channel.

19. Info display (front panel): Toggles information shown on the unit’s display.

20. Input Select: Selects the input source.

21. Level: Adjusts channel levels on the fly.

22. Balance L/R (BAL): Adjusts the left/right speaker balance.

23. Dim: Adjusts the front panel display brightness.

Note: The left/right navigation buttons also select previous/next input. The up/down buttons also control the tuner station.

To install the batteries in your ANTHEM MRX 740 remote control, slide the cover off the back of the remote, and insert the two included AAA batteries, making sure to match the positive (+) and negative (-) ends with the markings inside the compartment. Then, slide the cover back on.

If your ANTHEM MRX 740 remote control is not working, first check that the batteries are installed correctly and have power. If the batteries are fine, check that the Front IR is set to “On” in the Network / Control menu of the receiver. The remote operates best within 6 meters (20ft) and a 30-degree angle from the front of the receiver.

To connect speakers to your ANTHEM MRX 740, follow these steps:

1. Ensure the receiver is powered off before making any connections.

2. Prepare the speaker wire by carefully removing the insulation from the ends using a wire stripper and tightly twisting the loose strands.

3. Connect the positive (+) wire to the positive (+) binding post on the appropriate amplifier output on the receiver, and the negative (-) wire to the negative (-) binding post on the same channel.

4. To insert the wire, loosen the binding post by twisting it counterclockwise, insert the wire into the hole, and then tighten the post by turning it clockwise. Do not over-tighten.

5. Ensure no loose strands of wire are touching other cables or the receiver’s case.

6. For US models that allow banana connectors, first tighten the binding post completely, then insert the banana plug into the back of the post.

7. Do not connect more than one speaker to each amplifier output.

A network connection is required for using Anthem Room Correction, streaming, and IP control on your ANTHEM MRX 740.

Wired Connection:

Connect a CAT cable from your network router to the ETHERNET port on the back of the receiver.

Wireless Connection:

1. Attach the two included network antennas to the WIRELESS NETWORK ANTENNA connectors on the rear panel.

2. Follow the setup instructions for wireless connection in the setup menu of the receiver.

Note: A wired connection is recommended if the MRX 740 is mounted in a metal rack or if the wireless router is in another room. The wireless antennas are also required for a Bluetooth connection.

On your ANTHEM MRX 740, you can assign amplifier channels to different speakers using the Amp Matrixing menu. This allows you to use external amplifiers for certain channels (like the front speakers) and reassign the internal amplifiers to power other speakers (like height channels or Zone 2).

In the “Speaker Setup” -> “Amp Matrixing” menu, you can select which speaker channels are powered by the internal amplifiers. The available options for reassignment are:

• Front: Can be assigned to power Front, Zone 2, Front Wide, or Height 3.

• Surround: Can be assigned to power Surround, Zone 2, or Height 3.

• Back: Can be assigned to power Back, Zone 2, Zone 2 On Demand, Front Wide, or Front (Bi-Amp).

• Height 1: Can be assigned to power Height 1, Zone 2, or Front (Bi-Amp).

Zone 2 on Demand: When enabled, the Back speaker amplifiers will power Zone 2 when Zone 2 is on. When Zone 2 is off, they will revert to powering the Back speakers.

Bi-Amp: This option allows you to use unused amplifier channels to provide separate amplification to the high-frequency and low-frequency drivers of compatible front speakers.

You can configure bass management for each of the four speaker profiles in the “Bass Management” menu. If you are using Anthem Room Correction (ARC), these settings are configured automatically. For manual setup:

• LFE Low Pass Filter: Sets the upper frequency limit for the Low-Frequency Effects (LFE) channel. Default is 120 Hz.

• Subwoofer Phase: Adds electronic delay to the subwoofer signal to help it integrate with other speakers. The range is 0 to 180 degrees.

• Phase Frequency: Selects the frequency at which the phase shift is applied, typically the same as the crossover frequency.

• Subwoofer Polarity: Can be set to Normal or Inverted to help achieve balance between the subwoofer and speakers.

• Crossover Frequency: Sets the frequency at which bass is redirected from a speaker to the subwoofer. The range is 40 to 200 Hz in 10 Hz steps, or “Off”. “Off” is not recommended.

• Super Sub Fronts: When set to “Yes”, full-range stereo audio is sent to the front speakers, and bass is also sent to the subwoofer. This can result in colored sound and is not recommended for accuracy.

Before setup, if your subwoofer has its own crossover, set it to “bypass” or its highest frequency. Set any phase control on the subwoofer to 0.

In the “Listener Position” menu, you can set the distance from your primary listening position to each speaker. This ensures that sound from all channels arrives at your ears at the same time for proper imaging. Enter the distance for each speaker, including subwoofers. The range is 0-30 ft in 2-inch increments or 0-9 m in 5 cm increments. Note that Anthem Room Correction (ARC) does not set these distances automatically, so you should set them before or after running ARC.

You can manage up to 30 custom inputs in the “Input Setup” menu on your ANTHEM MRX 740.

• To add a new input: Scroll to the bottom of the input list, highlight “Insert Input,” and press SELECT.

• To delete an input: Highlight “Delete Input,” press SELECT, then highlight the input you wish to remove and press SELECT again to confirm.

To rename an input on your ANTHEM MRX 740, follow these steps:

1. Go to the “Input Setup” menu and select the input you wish to rename.

2. Highlight “Input Name” and press SELECT. The first character will be highlighted.

3. Use the UP/DOWN buttons on the remote or the volume knob to change the character.

4. Use the PREV/NEXT buttons or LEFT/RIGHT on the remote to move to the next character.

5. Repeat until you have completed the new name (up to 16 characters).

6. Press SELECT to save the new name and return to the menu.

If your ANTHEM MRX 740 becomes inoperable, you can perform a manual reboot or a factory reset.

To manually reboot the unit:

1. Disconnect the power cord.

2. Press the front panel power button five times to drain any residual power.

3. Reconnect the power cord.

4. Power on the MRX 740.

To manually reset the unit to factory condition (this will wipe all user settings):

1. With the power cord connected, press and hold the front panel MENU and main POWER buttons at the same time.

2. The unit should turn on, indicating the reset is complete.

Anthem Room Correction (ARC) optimizes the in-room response of your speakers. To use ARC with your ANTHEM MRX 740, follow these steps:

1. Before you begin, enable your subwoofers (if applicable) in the speaker setup menu and set the correct speaker distances in the Listener Position menu.

2. Download and install the ARC Genesis software program from the Anthem website. The beta version is required for x40 series units.

3. Connect the included USB microphone to your computer.

4. Ensure your MRX 740 is connected to the same network as your computer.

5. Start the ARC Genesis program and select “Launch ARC”.

6. Select your MRX 740 from the device discovery screen.

7. Follow the on-screen instructions to measure the room acoustics from multiple positions, calculate the correction curves, and upload the final calibration file to your MRX 740.

After running ARC, do not manually change the crossover points, subwoofer level, or phase/polarity, as these are set automatically by ARC.

You can control power and volume for your ANTHEM MRX 740 using either the front panel or the remote control.

• Power: Press the Power/Standby button on the front panel or the Main Zone Power On/Standby buttons on the remote.

• Volume: Rotate the large knob on the front panel or press the VOL up/down buttons on the remote control.

• Mute: To mute or un-mute the audio, press the MUTE button on the front panel or the remote.

Zone 2 power and volume can be controlled using the dedicated ZONE 2 buttons on the remote control.

To select an input on your ANTHEM MRX 740:

• Using the Front Panel: Press the PREV/INPUT or NEXT/INPUT buttons to scroll through the active inputs.

• Using the Remote Control: Press the left/right navigation buttons to scroll through inputs. Alternatively, press the INPUT button to bring up an on-screen list of inputs, then use the navigation buttons to highlight your choice and press SELECT to confirm.

To select the next input for Zone 2, press the INPUT button on the remote after selecting Zone 2.

Wired Connection:

1. Connect an ethernet cable from your router to the ANTHEM MRX 740.

2. Ensure your Apple device is on the same network. Select the MRX/AVM from the AirPlay audio playback device list on your Apple device to begin streaming.

Wireless Connection:

1. Ensure your Apple device is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want the receiver to join.

2. On your Apple device, go to Wi-Fi Settings.

3. Under “Set up new AirPlay speaker,” locate and select your MRX/AVM.

4. Follow the prompts to allow the receiver to connect to your network. Once connected, you can select it as an AirPlay speaker.

1. Connect your ANTHEM MRX 740 to your network via an ethernet cable (wired) or set it up on your Wi-Fi network.

2. Download and open the Google Home app on your mobile device.

3. The app should prompt you that a device is available for setup. If not, tap “Add” then “Setup a Device.”

4. Select the ANTHEM MRX 740 and follow the on-screen instructions.

5. To cast audio, ensure your casting device is on the same network as the receiver. Tap the Chromecast built-in icon from within a supported application and select the receiver as the playback device.

To set up a Bluetooth connection with your ANTHEM MRX 740:

1. Ensure both wireless antennas are attached to the back of the receiver.

2. Select the “Bluetooth” input on the MRX 740. This will put the receiver into pairing mode.

3. On your mobile device or computer, open the Bluetooth settings and search for available devices. Select the ANTHEM MRX 740 to pair.

Note: The pairing will be lost when you switch to a different input on the receiver. This is intentional to prevent the receiver from automatically reconnecting and playing unwanted audio from your device.
