If your ANTHEM AVM 70 is causing harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be confirmed by turning the equipment off and on, you are encouraged to try one or more of the following measures to correct the interference:

When you unbox your ANTHEM AVM 70, you should find the following items:

• AVM Processor

• Remote Control

• 2x Wireless Network Antennas

• 2x AAA Batteries

• IEC Power Cord (US / UK / EU / CN types are supplied by factory, other types are normally provided by the local distributor)

Additionally, the Anthem Room Correction (ARC) kit includes:

• USB Microphone

• USB Cable

It is recommended to save all packaging in case your unit requires service or transport in the future.

The ANTHEM AVM 70 comes programmed from the factory with fourteen default inputs. You can customize these and create up to 30 virtual inputs. The default settings are as follows:

The front panel of the ANTHEM AVM 70 provides access to essential functions:

1. Display: Shows current status, volume, and menu information.

2. Remote control sensor location: Receives signals from the remote control.

3. Volume control and menu navigation: A large knob to adjust volume and navigate through setup menus.

4. Headphone jack: For connecting headphones with a 6.35mm stereo jack plug.

5. Power / standby: Toggles the unit between on and standby mode.

6. Mute: Mutes and un-mutes the audio output.

7. Next input or item: A button to select the next available input or navigate forward in menus.

8. Previous input or item: A button to select the previous input or navigate backward in menus.

9. Selection confirmation (SELECT): Confirms a menu selection.

10. Setup menu access (MENU): Enters the main setup menu.

The rear panel of the ANTHEM AVM 70 features a comprehensive set of connections:

1. Wireless antenna connectors: For Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas.

2. USB jack: For factory service use only.

3. Local area network (Ethernet) connection: For IP control and Anthem Room Correction.

4. HDMI outputs: Two main outputs and one Zone 2 output. HDMI 1 supports eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel).

5. HDMI inputs: Seven HDMI inputs for various sources.

6. AC input: For connecting the supplied power cord.

7. RS-232 interface: For bidirectional serial control systems.

8. IR input and trigger outputs: For integration with infrared repeaters and 12V trigger systems.

9. Coaxial digital audio inputs: For digital audio sources.

10. Optical digital audio inputs and output: For digital audio sources and sending a down-mixed signal out.

11. Pre-out connections (XLR): Balanced outputs for connecting to external power amplifiers.

To use the remote, first install the two included AAA batteries. The remote for the ANTHEM AVM 70 has the following functions:

• Main zone power on / Standby: Turns the main zone on or off.

• Bass / Treble / Balance L/R / Dim: Adjusts audio tone, balance, and display brightness.

• Numeric keypad (0-9): For direct input.

• Preset: Accesses saved presets.

• Setup menu: Enters the setup menu.

• Navigation controls (Up/Down/Left/Right, SELECT): Navigates menus and selects items. The left/right buttons also select previous/next inputs.

• Clear: Deletes input configurations or clears an entry.

• Dolby Volume and Dolby Digital Dynamics (DYN): Toggles Dolby processing modes.

• Volume Up/Down: Adjusts the master volume.

• Zone 2 Controls: Separate power, volume, and input controls for Zone 2.

• Backlight: Illuminates the remote’s buttons.

• PG/PR (DTS:X Dialog Level Control): Adjusts dialogue level for DTS:X sources.

For best performance, use the remote within 6m (20ft) and within a 30° angle of the processor’s front panel sensor. If the remote is not working, check the batteries and ensure the “Front IR” setting is “On” in the Network / Control menu.

For the best immersive audio experience with your ANTHEM AVM 70, follow these speaker positioning guidelines:

• Front Left & Right: These are the primary speakers for 2-channel music and play a large role in home theater. Use full-range speakers if not using a subwoofer for music.

• Center: This is the most important speaker for home theater, reproducing almost all dialogue. It should be an accurate speaker that matches well with your front speakers.

• Surround Left & Right / Back Left & Right: These speakers create the enveloping wrap-around sound effects in your home theater space.

• Subwoofer(s): Essential for reproducing the Low Frequency Effect (LFE) track in movies and providing a solid bass foundation for music. The ANTHEM AVM 70 supports up to two independent subwoofers.

• Height Speakers: Up to four height speakers can be connected for 3-dimensional Dolby Atmos and DTS:X surround sound, creating effects like planes flying overhead.

For detailed placement diagrams for 5.1 and 7.1 channel systems, including in-ceiling and Dolby-enabled speaker configurations, refer to the “SPEAKER POSITIONING” section in the operating manual.

The ANTHEM AVM 70 is a processor and requires external amplifiers for all speakers. You can connect them using either RCA or Balanced XLR outputs.

Using RCA Pre-Amp Outputs:

Use standard RCA cables to connect the pre-amp outputs (labeled FRONT, CENTER, SURR, BACK, etc.) on the AVM 70 to the corresponding inputs on your external power amplifier(s). The subwoofer outputs (SW1, SW2) connect to the LFE or line-level input on your powered subwoofers.

Using Balanced XLR Pre-Amp Outputs:

Balanced XLR connections offer the highest analog signal quality, especially over long cable runs, as they reject noise and hum. Use XLR cables to connect the balanced outputs on the AVM 70 to the balanced inputs on your external power amplifier(s). The RCA and XLR outputs carry identical signals simultaneously.

Connecting Subwoofers:

Your ANTHEM AVM 70 features two independent subwoofer outputs (available on both RCA and XLR). Each output has its own position delay, level, and Anthem Room Correction filter. Both outputs receive the same signal, which is a mix of the LFE channel and the low-pass (bass) information from any speakers set to “small”.

A network connection is required for features like Anthem Room Correction (ARC), streaming, and IP control. You can connect your ANTHEM AVM 70 using a wired or wireless connection.

Wired Connection:

Connect a standard CAT network cable from your router to the ETHERNET port on the rear panel of the AVM 70.

Wireless Connection:

1. Attach the two included wireless network antennas to the designated connectors on the rear panel.

2. Set up the wireless connection through the setup menu on the device. A wired connection is recommended if the processor is in a metal rack or if the wireless signal is weak.

The wireless antennas are also required for any Bluetooth connection.

If your ANTHEM AVM 70 becomes inoperable and you need to perform a full factory reset, this process is not available through the on-screen menu. This method will wipe all user settings.

1. Ensure the power cord is connected.

2. Press and hold the front panel MENU and main POWER buttons at the same time.

3. The unit should turn on, and the reset process will complete.

Before performing a full reset, it is recommended to first try a manual reboot:

1. Disconnect the power cord.

2. Press the front panel power button five times to drain any residual power.

3. Reconnect the power cord.

4. Power on the ANTHEM AVM 70 normally.

Anthem Room Correction (ARC) optimizes the in-room response of your speakers to correct for negative acoustic effects from the room itself. In addition to correcting frequency response, ARC also adjusts speaker balance, sets subwoofer crossover points, and adjusts subwoofer level and phase/polarity.

Before running ARC, ensure you have enabled your subwoofers (if applicable) and have measured and set the distance for each speaker in the setup menu.

To use Anthem Room Correction with your ANTHEM AVM 70:

1. Download and install the ARC Genesis software program from the Anthem website. Ensure you are using the correct version required for your unit.

2. Connect the included calibrated microphone to your computer.

3. Start the program and select “Launch ARC”.

4. The software will search for your ANTHEM AVM 70 on the network. Select it from the device discovery screen.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to take acoustic measurements of your room from several positions.

6. Once measurements are complete, the software will calculate the correction curves.

7. Upload the calculated correction data to your ANTHEM AVM 70.

You can stream audio to your ANTHEM AVM 70 using AirPlay with either a wired or wireless network connection.

Wired Connection Setup:

1. Connect an ethernet cable from your router to the processor.

2. Ensure your Apple device (iPhone, iPad, etc.) is connected to the same network.

3. In your audio playback app on the Apple device, select the ANTHEM AVM 70 (which will appear as MRX/AVM) as the AirPlay speaker.

Wireless Connection Setup:

1. Ensure your Apple device is connected to the Wi-Fi network you want the processor to join.

2. On your Apple device, go to Wi-Fi Settings.

3. Under the “Set up new AirPlay speaker…” section, locate and select your ANTHEM AVM 70.

4. Follow the prompts to allow the processor to connect to your network.

5. Once connected, you can select it as an AirPlay speaker from any compatible app.

To use the Chromecast built-in feature, your ANTHEM AVM 70 must be connected to your network via an ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.

1. Download and open the Google Home app on your smartphone or tablet.

2. The app should prompt you that a new device is available for setup. If not, tap “Add” then “Setup a Device.”

3. Select the ANTHEM AVM 70 processor and follow the on-screen instructions in the app to complete the setup.

4. To listen to cast audio, ensure your casting device is on the same network as the processor.

5. From within any Chromecast-supported application, tap the Chromecast icon and select the ANTHEM AVM 70 as the playback device.

To use Bluetooth with your ANTHEM AVM 70, you must have both wireless antennas attached to the rear panel.

1. On the ANTHEM AVM 70, select the “Bluetooth” input. This action puts the processor into Bluetooth pairing mode.

2. On your source device (phone, tablet, etc.), open the Bluetooth settings and search for new devices.

3. Select the ANTHEM AVM 70 from the list of available devices to complete the pairing.

Note that the ANTHEM AVM 70 will unpair from your device when you switch to a different input. This is intentional to prevent the processor from automatically reconnecting and playing unwanted audio when you are using other sources.
