To ensure safe operation of your ANTHEM MRX 540, please adhere to the following precautions:

• To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove the cover or back. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.

• To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture. Do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the unit.

• For continued protection against fire risk, replace any fuses only with the same amperage and voltage type. Refer replacement to qualified service personnel.

• To prevent electric shock, match the wide blade of the plug to the wide slot and insert it fully.

• The unit may become hot. Always provide adequate ventilation to allow for cooling. Do not place it near a heat source or in spaces that can restrict ventilation.

• Do not install the unit in a confined space. Install it away from direct sunlight, heat sources, vibration, dust, moisture, and/or cold.

• Do not cover the unit with newspapers, tablecloths, curtains, etc., to avoid obstructing heat radiation.

• Do not place burning objects, like candles, on the unit.

• Do not place containers with liquid on the unit.

If your ANTHEM MRX 540 is causing harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be confirmed by turning the equipment off and on, you are encouraged to try one or more of the following measures to correct the interference:

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

• Increase the separation between the equipment and the receiver.

• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.

• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

When you unbox your ANTHEM MRX 540, you should find the following items:

• MRX Receiver

• IEC Power Cord (US / UK / EU / CN types are supplied by the factory; other types are normally provided by the local distributor)

Additionally, the Anthem Room Correction (ARC) kit includes:

• USB Cable

It is recommended to save your MRX’s packaging in case you need to move the unit or require service, as the original packaging will minimize the risk of damage during transport.

The ANTHEM MRX 540 comes from the factory programmed with the following thirteen inputs. You can change these or create up to 30 virtual inputs.

The front panel of the ANTHEM MRX 540 provides access to essential controls:

1. **Display:** Shows current status, settings, and menus.

2. **Remote control sensor location:** Receives signals from the remote control.

3. **Volume control and menu navigation:** A large knob to adjust volume and navigate through menu items.

4. **Headphone jack:** For connecting headphones.

5. **Power / standby:** Toggles the unit between on and standby mode.

6. **Mute:** Mutes or unmutes the audio output.

7. **Next input or item:** Selects the next available input or moves to the next item in a menu.

8. **Previous input or item:** Selects the previous input or moves to the previous item in a menu.

9. **Selection confirmation:** Confirms a menu selection.

10. **Setup menu access:** Enters the main setup menu.

If your remote control for the ANTHEM MRX 540 is not working, first check that the batteries are installed correctly and have a charge. If the batteries are fine, check that the “Front IR” setting is set to “On” in the Network / Control menu of the device. The remote operates best within 6 meters (20 feet) and a 30-degree angle from the front panel sensor.

To connect speakers to your ANTHEM MRX 540, follow these steps:

1. Ensure the ANTHEM MRX 540 is powered off before connecting or disconnecting anything.

2. Prepare the speaker wire by carefully removing the insulation with a wire stripper and tightly twisting the loose end of the wire. Make sure no loose strands can contact another cable or the receiver’s case.

3. Connect the positive (+) connection on the speaker to the positive (+) binding post on the appropriate amplifier output of the receiver. Connect the negative (-) connection on the speaker to the negative (-) binding post on the same amplifier channel.

4. To insert the bare wire, loosen the binding post by twisting it counterclockwise. Insert the wire into the hole that opens.

5. Close the binding post by turning it clockwise. Do not over-tighten. Gently tug on the connected cable to check the connection.

6. If using banana connectors (on US models), turn the binding post clockwise until it is closed before inserting the banana connector for a secure fit.

Do not connect more than one speaker to each amplifier output. Only use speakers rated for use with this receiver.

If your ANTHEM MRX 540 has become inoperable, you can first try manually rebooting it:

1. Disconnect the power cord.

2. Press the front panel power button five times to drain any residual power.

3. Reconnect the power cord.

4. Power on the ANTHEM MRX 540.

If the reboot does not resolve the issue, you can perform a manual factory reset. This process will wipe all user settings.

1. Connect the power cord to the unit.

2. Press and hold the front panel Menu and Main Power buttons at the same time. The unit should turn on, indicating the reset is complete.

Anthem Room Correction (ARC) optimizes the in-room response of your speakers. To use ARC with your ANTHEM MRX 540:

1. Download and install the ARC Genesis software from the official Anthem website (the beta version is required for x40 MRX/AVM units).

2. Start the program and select Launch ARC from the first screen.

3. Connect the included USB microphone to your computer and place it in your primary listening position.

4. Select the ANTHEM MRX 540 from the device discovery screen in the software.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to measure the room acoustics from at least five different positions.

6. Once measurements are complete, the software will calculate the correction curves.

7. Upload the calculated correction curves to your ANTHEM MRX 540.

In addition to correcting the acoustic response, ARC also adjusts the left/right balance, sets the crossover point, and adjusts the subwoofer’s level and phase/polarity relative to the main speakers.

You can make temporary, on-the-fly adjustments to your audio settings using the remote control for the ANTHEM MRX 540.

• **Level Trim:** To adjust the volume of a specific channel group (e.g., surrounds, subwoofer), press the LEVEL button on the remote to cycle through the groups, then use the up/down buttons to adjust. Note that this is for temporary adjustments and not for system calibration.

• **Bass / Treble:** To change the tone, press the BASS or TREBLE button on the remote, then use the up/down buttons. The BASS setting does not affect the subwoofer output.

• **Balance:** To change the left/right balance, press the BAL button on the remote. Then, press up to move the image to the right or down to move it to the left.

• **Lip-Sync:** If audio is not synchronized with the video, press the LIP-SYNC button, then use the up/down buttons to add up to 500 milliseconds of audio delay.

You can set up Apple AirPlay on your ANTHEM MRX 540 using either a wired or wireless connection.

Wired Connection:

1. Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the ANTHEM MRX 540.

2. Ensure your Apple device is connected to the same network.

3. Simply select the ANTHEM MRX 540 (it will appear as MRX/AVM) as the AirPlay audio playback device from your Apple device.

Wireless Connection:

1. Ensure your Apple device is connected to the Wi-Fi network you wish to connect the receiver to.

2. On your Apple device, go to the Wi-Fi Settings menu.

3. Locate the ANTHEM MRX 540 under the “Set up new AirPlay speaker…” section.

4. Select the unit and allow it to connect to your network.

To set up and use Chromecast built-in with your ANTHEM MRX 540, follow these steps:

1. Connect your ANTHEM MRX 540 to your network using an Ethernet cable (wired) or via Wi-Fi.

2. Download and open the Google Home app on your mobile device.

3. You should be prompted that a device is available for setup. If not, tap “Add” followed by “Setup a Device.”

4. Select the ANTHEM MRX 540 and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

5. To listen to cast audio, ensure your casting device is connected to the same network as the receiver.

6. From within any supported application, tap the Chromecast built-in icon and select the ANTHEM MRX 540 as the playback device.

To use Bluetooth with your ANTHEM MRX 540, you must first attach both wireless antennas to the rear panel of the unit. Once the antennas are attached, select the Bluetooth input on the receiver. This will put the ANTHEM MRX 540 into Bluetooth pairing mode. You can then pair your device through its Bluetooth settings menu. Note that if you switch to a different input on the receiver, the Bluetooth pairing will be lost. This is by design to prevent the receiver from automatically reconnecting and playing unwanted audio from a paired device.
