The 8BITDO RETRO 87 keyboard features the following components:

Note: Interfaces for 8BitDo Super Buttons are for 8BitDo Super Accessories only.

The system requirements for devices with a built-in Bluetooth Low Energy or USB port are:

• Windows 10 (1903) or above

• Android 9.0 or above

To perform a factory reset, hold the Pair button + Fast key mapping button + Profile button for 5 seconds. The LED indicators will start to blink, indicating the reset is in progress. All profiles, Bluetooth pairing information, key mappings, and swapped keys will be reset to their default settings.

The following FN key combinations are available on the 8BITDO RETRO 87. Note that some functions are only available on Windows.

To establish a 2.4G wireless connection:

1. Turn the Mode switch to 2.4.

2. Connect the 2.4G adapter to the USB port of your device. The Connection indicator will remain solid for 8 seconds and then go off to indicate a successful connection.

To re-pair the Keyboard and the Adapter:

1. Turn the Mode switch to 2.4.

2. Hold the Pair button for 3 seconds to enter its pairing mode. The Connection indicator will start to blink rapidly.

3. Connect the adapter to the USB port of your device.

4. The Connection indicator will remain solid for 8 seconds and then go off to indicate a successful connection.

To use the keyboard with a wired connection:

1. Turn the Mode switch to OFF.

2. Connect the keyboard to the USB port of your device and wait until the keyboard is successfully recognized by your device before using it.

To establish a Bluetooth connection:

1. Turn the Mode switch to BT.

2. Hold the Pair button for 3 seconds to enter its pairing mode. The Connection indicator will start to blink rapidly. This is required for the very first time only.

3. Go to your device’s Bluetooth list and pair with “8BitDo Retro Keyboard X”. The Connection indicator will remain solid for 8 seconds and then go off to indicate a successful connection.

The 8BITDO RETRO 87 has a built-in 4000mAh battery pack. It offers approximately 300 hours of usage time via Bluetooth connection and 280 hours via wireless 2.4G connection (with RGB off). The keyboard is rechargeable with about 6 hours of charging time.

Power Management:

• The keyboard will automatically shut down if it fails to connect within 1 minute of startup, or if there are no operations within 15 minutes after establishing a connection.

• The keyboard will not shut down during a wired connection.

• Charging and battery life depend on variations in settings or environmental factors, and actual results may vary.

The power indicator LED on the 8BITDO RETRO 87 keyboard displays the following statuses:

• Low battery: Power indicator blinks

• Battery charging: Power indicator breathing

• Fully charged: Power indicator stays solid

The Fast Key Mapping feature allows you to assign key combinations to a single programmable button.

• You can assign up to 6 keys to a Programmable key at the same time.

• To cancel a mapped key, press the Fast key mapping button first, then press the corresponding Programmable key.

• To clear all fast key mappings, hold the Fast Key mapping button for 5 seconds.

• When the mapped programmable button is pressed, the Key mapping indicator will blink rapidly.

• The fast key mapping mode will automatically exit after 60 seconds of no activity.

The Fast Key Swap feature allows you to change the positions of certain modifier keys.

• Swappable keys: Ctrl, Win, Alt, and Shift.

• The Key mapping indicator will blink rapidly when the swapped key is pressed.

The 8BITDO RETRO 87 keyboard supports two lighting control modes: “8BitDo RGB” and “Windows Dynamic Lighting”. The default setting is “8BitDo RGB”. The control mode can be switched using the Ultimate Software V2.

You can use the Ultimate Software V2 to customize the button mapping function and access additional support for your 8BITDO RETRO 87 keyboard.
