Follow these steps to access the web configurator:

1. Make sure your ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D hardware is properly connected.

2. Launch your web browser. If you are not automatically redirected, go to http://192.168.1.1.

3. A password screen will display. Select your preferred language.

4. To access the administrative Web Configurator, type the default username ‘admin’ and the randomly assigned default password (found on the device label) into the password screen and click Login. If you have changed the password, enter your new password and click Login.

5. The first time you log in, a screen will prompt you to change the password. Enter a new password, retype it to confirm, and click ‘Change password’. If you prefer to use the default password, click ‘Skip’.

The LED indicators on your ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D provide information about its status. If none of the LEDs are on, the device is not receiving power.

To turn the wireless network on or off, press the WiFi button. The WLAN/WPS LED on the front panel will indicate if the wireless network is active.

To use WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) to quickly set up a secure wireless connection:

1. Make sure the POWER LED is on and not blinking.

2. Press the WPS button for two seconds and release it.

3. Press the WPS button on another WPS-enabled device within range. The WLAN/WPS LED on the ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D will flash amber while it sets up the connection.

4. Once the connection is successful, the WLAN/WPS LED will shine green.

If you forget your password or cannot access the Web Configurator, you can use the RESET button to reload the factory-default configuration file. This will erase all your previous configurations. The password will be reset to the factory default (see the device label), and the LAN IP address will be “192.168.1.1”.

1. Make sure the POWER LED is on (not blinking).

2. Press the RESET button for one second, or until the POWER LED begins to blink, and then release it. When the POWER LED blinks, the defaults have been restored and the device restarts.

To attach your ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D to a wall, follow these steps:

1. Drill two holes in the wall, 3 mm ~ 4 mm (0.12″ ~ 0.16″) wide, 20 mm ~ 30 mm (0.79” ~ 1.18”) deep, and 126mm apart. Place two screw anchors in the holes.

2. Screw two screws with 6mm ~ 8 mm (0.24″ ~ 0.31″) wide heads into the screw anchors. Do not screw them all the way in; leave a small gap between the screw head and the wall. The gap must be large enough for the screw heads to slide into the screw slots and for connection cables to run down the back of the device.

3. Use the holes on the bottom of the ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D to hang it on the screws.

Note: Wall-mount the device vertically. Make sure the screws are securely fixed to the wall and are strong enough to hold the weight of the device and its connection cables.

To set up an ADSL Internet connection, you will need information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

1. In the web configurator, go to Network Setting > Broadband. Click Add New WAN Interface.

2. In the “Add New WAN Interface” screen, enter the following settings as provided by your ISP:

• General Settings:

• Name: Give the connection a name (e.g., MyDSLConnection).

• Type: ADSL over ATM.

• Mode: Routing.

• Encapsulation: PPPoE.

• IPv4/IPv6 Mode: Select the appropriate mode (e.g., IPv4 Only).

• ATM PVC Configuration:

• VPI/VCI: Enter the values provided by your ISP (e.g., 36/48).

• Encapsulation Mode: Select the mode (e.g., LLC/SNAP-Bridging).

• PPP Information:

• PPP User Name: Enter the username from your ISP.

• PPP Password: Enter the password from your ISP.

• IP Address: Select ‘Obtain an IP Address Automatically’ unless your ISP provided a static IP.

• DNS Server: Select ‘Obtain DNS Info Automatically’ or ‘Use Following Static DNS Address’ and enter the DNS server addresses from your ISP.

• Routing Feature: Check ‘Apply as Default Gateway’.

3. Click Apply to save your settings.

4. The new connection will appear in the Broadband screen summary. You can then try to connect to a website to verify the connection.

To make your ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D more secure and manage it more effectively, you should do the following things regularly:

• Change the password. Use a password that’s not easy to guess and that consists of different types of characters, such as numbers and letters.

• Write down the password and put it in a safe place.

• Back up the configuration. Restoring an earlier working configuration may be useful if the device becomes unstable or crashes. If you forget your password, you will have to reset the device to its factory default settings. If you have a backup file, you can simply restore your last configuration instead of re-configuring everything from scratch.

If your ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D does not turn on and none of the LEDs are lit, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the Zyxel Device is turned on.

2. Make sure you are using the power adaptor or cord included with the Zyxel Device.

3. Make sure the power adaptor or cord is connected to the Zyxel Device and plugged in to an appropriate power source. Make sure the power source is turned on.

4. Turn the Zyxel Device off and on.

5. If the problem continues, contact the vendor.

If you have forgotten the IP address for your ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D, try the following:

1. The default LAN IP address is 192.168.1.1.

2. If you changed the IP address and have forgotten it, you can find the IP address of your computer’s default gateway. In most Windows computers, click Start > Run, enter ‘cmd’, and then enter ‘ipconfig’. The IP address listed for the ‘Default Gateway’ might be the IP address of your Zyxel Device. Enter this IP address in your Internet browser.

3. If this does not work, you will have to reset the device to its factory defaults.

2. If the default credentials do not work, you have to reset the device to its factory defaults.

If you are unable to log in to the web configurator, try these steps:

1. Make sure you have entered the password correctly. The field is case-sensitive, so make sure [Caps Lock] is not on.

2. You cannot log in to the web configurator while someone is using Telnet to access the device. Log out of the other session, or ask the person who is logged in to log out.

3. Turn the Zyxel Device off and on.

4. If this does not work, you have to reset the device to its factory defaults.

If you’re having trouble accessing the Internet via a DSL connection, check the following:

1. Make sure you have the DSL WAN port connected to a telephone jack (or the DSL/modem jack on a splitter).

2. Make sure you have configured a proper DSL WAN interface (in Network Setting > Broadband) with the correct account information from your ISP and that the interface is enabled.

3. Check that the LAN interface you are connected to is in the same interface group as the DSL connection (Network Setting > Interface Grouping).

4. If you set up a WAN connection using a bridging service, make sure you turn off the DHCP feature in the LAN screen to allow clients to get WAN IP addresses directly from your ISP’s DHCP server.

The following factors may cause interference with your wireless signal:

• Obstacles: walls, ceilings, furniture, and so on.

• Building Materials: metal doors, aluminum studs.

• Electrical devices: microwaves, monitors, electric motors, cordless phones, and other wireless devices.

To optimize the speed and quality of your wireless connection, you can:

• Move your wireless device closer to the Zyxel router if the signal strength is low.

• Reduce wireless interference from other wireless networks or electronics like cordless phones.

• Place the router where there are minimal obstacles (like walls and ceilings) between it and the wireless client.

• Reduce the number of wireless clients connecting to the router simultaneously, or add additional access points if needed.

• Try closing some programs that use the Internet, especially peer-to-peer applications, as they can consume a lot of bandwidth.

If your ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D is not detecting your USB device, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect the USB device.

2. Reboot the Zyxel Device.

3. If you are connecting a USB hard drive that has an external power supply, make sure it is connected to a power source that is on.

4. Re-connect your USB device to the Zyxel Device.

You can manage your device’s configuration in the Maintenance > Backup Restore screen.

Backup Configuration:

This allows you to save the Zyxel Device’s current configuration to a file on your computer. It is highly recommended to back up your configuration before making any changes.

• Click Backup to save the current configuration to your computer.

Restore Configuration:

This allows you to upload a previously saved configuration file from your computer to the Zyxel Device.

• Click Choose File to find the configuration file (.bin) you want to upload. Remember to decompress zipped files first.

• Click Upload to begin the process. Do not turn off the device while the file is uploading.

Reset to Factory Defaults:

This clears all user-entered configuration information and returns the device to its factory default settings.

• Click the Reset button. A warning message will appear asking for confirmation.

To upgrade your device’s firmware:

1. Download the latest firmware file for your specific model from the Zyxel website.

2. In the web configurator, navigate to Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade.

3. Under the Upgrade Firmware section, click Choose File and select the firmware file you downloaded. Remember to decompress compressed (.zip) files first.

4. Click Upload to begin the process. The upload may take up to two minutes. The device will reboot automatically after a successful upload.

Important: Do NOT turn off the ZYXEL VMG1312-B01D while the firmware upload is in progress!

After two minutes, log in again and check the new firmware version in the Status screen.
