The ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 is equipped with a built-in battery. When using it for the first time, you must fully charge the battery to activate it and ensure the proper function of the gimbal.

To charge the device, use the provided USB Type-C cable to connect a USB charger (not provided) to the charging port on the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115. It is recommended to use chargers that meet the USB Power Delivery Specification, supporting up to 18W at most. When the indicator light stays solid, the charging is complete.

Follow these steps to set up your ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115:

1. Unlock the tilt axis, roll axis, and pan axis to expand the SMOOTH 5. When unfolding, please rotate the axes in the correct direction as shown in the diagrams in the user guide to prevent damaging the lock pins.

2. Mount your mobile phone onto the phone clamp. You can mount the phone in either portrait or landscape mode depending on your filming needs.

• To switch between modes, rotate the phone clamp. Ensure you rotate in the correct direction.

• When mounting the phone, pay attention to the installation direction so that the phone’s cameras are positioned correctly.

• Ensure the entire mobile phone is fixed firmly within the phone clamp.

3. Before powering on the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115, you must mount the mobile phone and balance the gimbal.

The balance state of your mobile phone will affect the gimbal’s runtime. The ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 can work if unbalanced, but it will consume more battery power and weaken the motor strength. Follow these steps to properly balance your phone.

For Portrait Mode:

1. Unlock the roll axis arm latch, then push the arm left or right until the phone is steady and almost level with the ground. Tighten the latch.

2. Slide the mobile phone itself left or right within the clamp until it is steady and almost level with the ground.

For Landscape Mode:

1. Unlock the roll axis arm latch, then push the arm left or right until the phone is steady and almost level with the ground. Tighten the latch.

2. Move the entire phone clamp forward or backward along the arm until the phone is steady and almost level with the ground.

If you have the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 Combo, it includes a magnetic fill light. You can install the light on either the front or rear of the phone clamp, depending on whether you are using the front or rear camera. Ensure the installation is firm. You can also change the fill light filters according to your filming scenario. When using the fill light, avoid staring directly at it.

The ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 has a comprehensive control panel. Here are the functions of its main controls:

• Focus/Zoom Control Wheel: Rotate to control focus or zoom within the ZY Cami app.

• Focus/Zoom Switch: Single press to switch between focus and zoom control in the ZY Cami app.

• MENU Button: Single press to enter the shortcut menu in the ZY Cami app. Double press to return to the previous menu.

• Joystick: Push up, down, left, or right to control the gimbal’s rotation.

• Resolution/Frame Rate Selection Button: Single press to scroll up in the ZY Cami menu. Double press to adjust resolution/frame rate.

• Adjustment Wheel: In the ZY Cami app, rotate the wheel to select the filming mode.

• Fill Light Button: Single press to confirm a parameter/function adjustment in the ZY Cami app. Double press to take a photo or start/stop video recording. Press and hold to power the magnetic fill light on/off. When on, rotate the adjustment wheel to control brightness.

• ISO/Exposure Adjustment Button: Single press to select the menu on the right in the ZY Cami app. Double press to adjust ISO or other exposure parameters (customizable in the app).

• DISP Button: Single press to select the menu on the left in the ZY Cami app. Double press to show/hide filming parameters. In the Photo Album mode, press to show detailed parameters of photos.

• Photo Album Button: Single press to scroll down in the menu in the ZY Cami app. Double press to enter the photo album.

• Mode Switch: Single press to switch gimbal modes (PF-L-F-POV-V). Double press to return to the previous mode.

• Photo/Video Button: Single press to take a photo/film video in the ZY Cami app. Double press to switch between the front and rear cameras.

• Power Button: Single press to check the battery level. Press and hold to power the gimbal on or off.

• FN Button: Single press for a customized setting (can be set in the app). Press five times to reset Bluetooth.

• Trigger Button: Single press to enable/disable SmartFollow in the ZY Cami app. Double press to reposition the gimbal. Triple press to rotate the pan axis 180°. Press and hold to enter Go Mode.

• Type-C Charging/Firmware Upgrade Port: Use this port to charge the gimbal or connect to a computer for firmware upgrades.

Note: Some functions require the use of the ZY Cami app. When connected via Bluetooth, the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 can control the native camera on phones that support camera control via the volume button.

The indicator lights on the control panel of the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 provide information about the gimbal’s mode, battery level, and status.

Gimbal Mode:

• The indicator light for the current mode (PF, L, F, POV, V) will stay on. The F light flashes when in Go mode.

Battery Level (check by single pressing the power button when on):

• One flashing white indicator light: 0-20% battery level.

• Two flashing white indicator lights: 20%-40%.

• Three flashing white indicator lights: 40%-60%.

• Four flashing white indicator lights: 60%-80%.

• Five flashing white indicator lights: 80%-100%.

• Flashing red PF light: Low battery.

Status:

• Five slow flashing lights: Standby mode.

• Five quick flashing lights: Upgrade failure.

• Five lights flashing one by one from left to right: Upgrade is in progress.

You can single or double press the MODE button on your ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 to switch between modes. The default cycle is Pan Follow (PF) -> Lock (L) -> Follow (F) -> Point of View (POV) -> Vortex (V).

• Pan Follow Mode (PF): The tilt and roll axis motors are locked. The pan axis follows the movement of the gimbal handle. Use the joystick to control the tilt and pan axes.

• Lock Mode (L): All three motors (pan, tilt, roll) are locked and will not follow the movement of the handle. Use the joystick to control the tilt and pan axes.

• Follow Mode (F): The roll axis motor is locked. The tilt and pan axes follow the movement of the gimbal handle. Use the joystick to control the tilt and pan axes.

• Point of View Mode (POV): All three motors follow the movement of the gimbal handle, allowing for dynamic, first-person perspective shots.

• Vortex mode (V): The tilt axis motor rotates upward by 90°, and the tilt, roll, and pan axes follow the rotation of the handle. Use the joystick left/right to control the rotation of the pan axis for barrel roll shots.

• Go Mode (GO): Press and hold the Trigger Button to enter this mode. The camera pans and tilts following the movement of the gimbal at a fast speed, while the roll axis is locked. This is ideal for capturing fast-moving subjects.

When the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 is in Pan Follow mode (PF) or Lock mode (L), you can manually adjust the camera’s position. Rotate the camera by hand to a certain angle and hold it there for 2 seconds. The camera angle will then be fixed at that new position after you release it.

When the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 is powered on, you can manually rotate the roll axis or pan axis until the axis triggers the built-in lock device. The gimbal will then enter standby mode automatically. To wake up the gimbal, simply unlock the roll axis and pan axis.

To pack the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115, rotate the gimbal into its compact storage state as shown in the user guide diagrams. This typically involves folding the arms and locking the axes into their designated storage positions to ensure it is secure and takes up minimal space.

To connect your ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 to the ZY Cami app, follow these steps:

1. Power on the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 and turn on Bluetooth on your mobile phone.

2. Launch the “ZY Cami” app. Tap the camera icon in the upper left corner of the home screen to open the device list.

3. Select the SMOOTH 5 device you wish to connect. The Bluetooth name can be checked on the tilt axis arm (USER ID: XXXX).

4. If this is the first time you are using the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115, activation through the ZY Cami app is required. An internet connection is needed for this. After successful activation, you can enter the camera interface of the ZY Cami App.

Using the dedicated “ZY Cami” app with your ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 unlocks various functions, including:

• SmartFollow

• Smart Mode

• Gesture Control

• Timelapse

• Editor

• Firmware Upgrade

There are two methods to upgrade the firmware for your ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115.

Method 1: Using a Computer

1. Connect the Type-C charging/firmware upgrade port on the gimbal to a computer using the provided USB cable. Power on the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 and ensure it enters standby mode.

2. Go to the official ZHIYUN website, find the SMOOTH 5 product page, and download the USB driver (not required for Mac OS), the ZHIYUN calibration upgrade tool, and the latest firmware file (.ptz extension).

3. Install the driver and the software. Unzip the firmware file.

4. Open the “Zhiyun Gimbal Tools” software, select the corresponding port, and click “Open”.

5. Click “Firmware Upgrade”. Click “Browse” under “Path” to select the downloaded .ptz firmware file.

6. Click “Upgrade” at the bottom to begin. Once the upgrade is finished, the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 will automatically turn off.

Method 2: Using the ZY Cami App

1. Connect your ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 to the ZY Cami app.

2. If the app prompts you to upgrade the firmware, simply follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process. An internet connection is required.

Before upgrading, ensure the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 has more than 50% battery power. Do not exit the app interface or let it run in the background during the upgrade process.

You should perform a calibration on your ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 under the following conditions:

Perform Gimbal auto-calibration if:

• A slight deviation is found in the tilt or roll angle of the mobile phone in a level position after powering on.

• Frequent small angle corrections are observed when the mobile phone is level and the gimbal is still.

Perform Six-side calibration if:

• A slight deviation is found in the level position even after auto-calibration.

• The gimbal has not been used for a long time.

• The gimbal has undergone a significant temperature difference.

There are two types of calibration for the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115: Gimbal auto-calibration and Six-side calibration.

Gimbal Auto-Calibration (via ZY Cami App):

1. Install the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 onto the tripod and connect it to the ZY Cami App.

2. Go to the settings within the app and select “auto-calibration”. The gimbal will begin the calibration automatically. You can monitor the progress through the app’s prompts.

Six-Side Calibration (via Computer):

This process requires placing all six sides of the tilt axis vertically on a level surface.

1. Connect the gimbal’s charging/firmware upgrade port to your computer with the Type-C USB cable. Power on the gimbal and enter standby mode.

2. Open the “Zhiyun Gimbal Tools” software on your computer, click “open” at the top, and then click “calibration” at the bottom.

3. Follow the on-screen steps, which will guide you through positioning the gimbal for each of the six sides. The steps are as follows:

• STEP 1: Place the gimbal with the handle horizontal, phone clamp facing up.

• STEP 2: Place the gimbal with the handle horizontal, phone clamp facing forward.

• STEP 3: Place the gimbal with the handle vertical, phone clamp on the right side.

• STEP 4: Place the gimbal with the handle vertical, phone clamp on the left side.

• STEP 5: Place the gimbal with the handle horizontal, phone clamp facing down.

• STEP 6: Place the gimbal with the handle horizontal, phone clamp facing backward.

A checkmark (√) will appear in the software after the calibration is complete.

The product specifications for the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 are as follows:

“Lab Data 1”: Collected at 25°C with a balanced iPhone XR. With the fill light at highest brightness, runtime is 4.5h. With the fill light off and in standby, runtime is 25h.

“Lab Data 2”: With a 15W Fast Charge at 25°C, charging time is 2h. With a 5V/2A rated power adapter at 25°C, charging time is 4h. Actual charging time varies with environmental factors.

All data is from internal ZHIYUN laboratories and subject to a margin of error. Please refer to actual use.

WARNING:

1. Never allow the product to come into contact with any liquid or get wet. Do not use in rain or humid environments.

2. If the product catches fire, use water, water mist, sand, fire blanket, dry powder, or a carbon dioxide fire extinguisher to put it out.

3. Use the product in an environment with a temperature between -10° C and 45° C.

4. Do not disassemble the product. Piercing the battery can cause electrolyte leakage, fire, or explosion.

5. Avoid mechanical impact, rolling, or throwing the product. Do not place heavy objects on it.

6. Do not heat the product or place it in a microwave oven or pressure cooker.

7. Do not place the product near a heat source or in a hot car. Do not store above 45° C. The ideal storage temperature is 22°C to 28° C.

8. Do not store the battery for a long time after it is completely discharged to avoid over-discharging, which can cause permanent damage.

BE CAREFUL:

1. The ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 is a high-precision device. Damage may be caused if it is dropped or subjected to external force, which may result in malfunction.

2. Ensure the rotation of the gimbal axes is not blocked by external force when the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 is turned on.

3. The ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 is not waterproof. Prevent contact with any liquid or cleaner. Use a dry cloth for cleaning.

4. Protect the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115 from dust and sand during use.

CAUTION:

1. After charging is complete, disconnect the product from the charger.

2. If you do not use the product for more than 10 days, charge/discharge the battery to 40%-65% and store it to extend battery life.

3. Recharge and discharge every 3 months to keep the battery active.

4. Keep the handle stable when powering on the ZHIYUN SMOOTH 5 SM115. Shakiness during power-on may cause it to fail to start.
