Why does a popping sound occur when I turn the YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262 on or off?
This is normal and indicates that the PSR-262 is receiving electrical power.
Why does the YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262 produce noise when I use a mobile phone nearby?
Using a mobile phone in close proximity to the PSR-262 may produce interference. To prevent this, turn off the mobile phone or use it further away from the PSR-262.
Why does the sound of the voices or rhythms seem unusual or strange on my YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
The battery power may be too low. Replace the batteries.
Why is there no sound coming from my YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262 when I play the keyboard or a song?
Check that nothing is connected to the PHONES/OUTPUT jack on the rear panel. When a set of headphones is plugged into this jack, no sound is output from the main speakers.
Why can’t I hear the rhythm when playing back one of the Pianist styles (#081 – #100) on the YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
This is normal. The Pianist styles have no drums or bass, only piano accompaniment. The accompaniment of the style can only be heard when accompaniment is set to ON and keys are played in the auto accompaniment section of the keyboard.
Why doesn’t the auto accompaniment turn on when I press the [ACCOMPANIMENT ON/OFF] button on my YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
Make sure the Style mode is active before using the auto accompaniment. Press the [STYLE] button to enable style operations.
Why are not all notes heard when I play a number of notes simultaneously on the YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
Too many keys are being pressed at the same time. The PSR-262 is polyphonic up to a maximum of 16 notes. This includes notes from your playing, the auto accompaniment, songs, and Multi Pads.
Why do the keys in the right hand section of the keyboard not produce any sound on my YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
When using the Dictionary function, the keys in the right hand section are used only for entering the chord root and type and will not produce sound for the melody.
Why does the accompaniment not sound proper on my YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
Make sure that the Accompaniment Volume is set to an appropriate level.
Why is the Multi Pad sound cut off or unusual on my YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
The PSR-262 is polyphonic up to a maximum of 16 notes. If a style or song is playing back at the same time a Multi Pad is played, some notes/sounds of the Multi Pad may be omitted (or “stolen”) from the accompaniment or song to stay within the polyphony limit.
Why does the sound of a voice change from note to note on the YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
The AWM tone generation method uses multiple recordings (samples) of an instrument across the range of the keyboard; thus, the actual sound of the voice may be slightly different from note to note. This is normal behavior for sampled instruments.
Why don’t the notes shown in the display match the keys I’m actually playing on my YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262?
When auto accompaniment is on, the display shows the specific notes of the chords you play in the auto accompaniment section of the keyboard. If you play a single finger chord, or an inversion of a chord, the corresponding chord will be appropriately displayed, even if the display does not exactly match the pressed keys.
Why does my sustain footswitch have the opposite effect on the YAMAHA PORTATONE PSR-262 (it cuts off sound when pressed)?
The polarity of the footswitch is reversed. This happens if the footswitch was pressed down while the keyboard was being turned on. Make sure that the footswitch plug is properly connected to the SUSTAIN jack and that it is not being pressed before turning on the power.
