STATIC DISCHARGE:

Static discharges can destroy expensive components. Discharge any static electricity your body may have accumulated by grounding yourself to the ground bus in the unit (heavy gauge black wires connect to this bus).

DISASSEMBLY & REPLACEMENT:

Turn the unit OFF during disassembly and parts replacement. Recheck all work before you apply power to the unit.

CHEMICAL CONTENT (LEAD):

The solder used in this product contains LEAD. Other components may also contain traces of chemicals known to cause health issues.

• DO NOT PLACE SOLDER, ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC OR PLASTIC COMPONENTS IN YOUR MOUTH FOR ANY REASON WHAT SO EVER!

• Avoid prolonged, unprotected contact between solder and your skin. When soldering, do not inhale solder fumes or expose eyes to solder/flux vapor.

• If you come in contact with solder or components located inside the enclosure of this product, wash your hands before handling food.

How do I save and back up my data on the YAMAHA PORTABLE GRAND YPG-225?

Saving Data to Registration Memory:

The panel settings and some other types of data are not retained in memory when you turn off the power. Save data you want to keep to the Registration Memory. Saved data may be lost due to malfunction or incorrect operation, so it is important to save important data to a USB storage device or other external device like a computer.

Backing up to External Media:

To protect against data loss through media damage, it is recommended that you save your important data onto two separate USB storage devices or external media.


How do I perform a “Backup Clear” to reset the YAMAHA PORTABLE GRAND YPG-225?

A “Backup Clear” erases all backup data in the instrument’s flash memory and restores the initial default settings. This includes panel user settings, registration memory, user songs, and style files.

To perform a Backup Clear, turn the power on by pressing the [STANDBY/ON] switch while holding the highest white key on the keyboard. The backed-up data will be erased and the default values restored.


How do I perform a “Flash Clear” on the YAMAHA PORTABLE GRAND YPG-225?

A “Flash Clear” is used to clear song data and style files that have been transferred to the internal flash memory from a computer.

To perform a Flash Clear, turn the power on by pressing the [STANDBY/ON] switch while simultaneously holding the highest white key on the keyboard and the three highest black keys.

Warning: When you execute the Flash Clear operation, song data you have purchased will also be cleared. Be sure to save data you want to keep to a computer.


How do I back up user data from my YAMAHA PORTABLE GRAND YPG-225 to a computer?

You can use the “Musicsoft Downloader” software to back up user data, including the five User Songs, to a computer.

Data that can be backed up:

• User Songs

• Style Files

• Registration Memory

• FUNCTION Settings: Tuning, Split Point, Touch Sensitivity, Style Volume, Song Volume, Metronome Volume, Grade, Demo Cancel, Master EQ type

Preparation:

• PC (Personal Computer)

• USB Cable (A – B Type)

• MIDI-USB Driver and Musicsoft Downloader (MSD) software installed on the PC beforehand.

Backup Procedure:

1. Turn off the power of the YAMAHA PORTABLE GRAND YPG-225.

2. End all application software on the PC.

3. Connect the YPG-225 to the PC with a USB cable.

4. Turn on the power of the YPG-225.

5. Click the Control Panel on the PC.

6. Click “USB-MIDI Driver” on the Control Panel to open the dialog box.

7. Remove the check from the check box next to the word “Thru ON/OFF” in the dialog box.

8. Start up the Musicsoft Downloader.

9. In the Musicsoft Downloader display, click “Electronic Musical Instruments” and then “System Drive”. A file named “06PG76.BUP” will appear in the lower right corner; this is the backup file. For details on how to transmit the backup file, refer to the Online help in the application.

Note: Preset Song data cannot be transmitted from the instrument.

Caution:

• It is recommended that you use a power adaptor rather than batteries when transferring data. Data can be corrupted if the batteries fail during the transfer.

• Do not rename the backup file on the computer. If you do so, it will not be recognized when transferred to the instrument.


How do I enter and operate the Test Program on the YAMAHA PORTABLE GRAND YPG-225?

Warning: If you execute test No.47 (Factory Set), the user’s preset data may be lost. Back up the user’s data in advance.

Preparation:

1. Use a PA-5D or PA-51 AC adaptor.

2. Measuring instruments needed: frequency counter, level meter (with JIS-C filter). Connect a stereo plug to the [PHONES/OUTPUT] jack at 33 ohms.

3. Jigs needed: Foot switch (FC-4 or FC-5), USB cable, USB-MIDI driver.

How to Enter the Test Program:

While pressing the C2#, F2, and G2# keys simultaneously, turn the [STANDBY/ON] switch on.

Test Procedure:

1. When the test program starts, “TEST” will be displayed on the LCD.

2. Press the [-] or [+] button of the number buttons to select a test program item.

3. Press the [START/STOP] button to execute the test.

• If the test result is OK, or the test item is completed, press the [START/STOP] button again to return to the test item selection display.

• Press the [-] or [+] button of the number buttons to select the next test program item.

• When the test result is OK, a cursor (_) is added under the first character of the test item name on the display.

• If the test result is NG, press the [DEMO] button or the lowest (leftmost) white key to return to the test item selection display.
