What does the POWER ON light indicate?

Each control knob will activate the POWER ON light. The light will glow red when any control knob is on.

What should I do to ensure optimal cooking results with coil elements?

Coil elements should be level for optimal cooking results.

What is the purpose of burner bowls?

Burner bowls, when clean, reflect heat back to the cookware. They also help catch spills.

How far should cookware extend over the coil element?

Cookware should not extend more than ½" (1.3 cm) over the coil element. If cookware is uneven or too large, it can produce excess heat causing the burner bowl to change color.

What should I do before removing or replacing coil elements and burner bowls?

Before removing or replacing coil elements and burner bowls, make sure they are cool and the control knobs are in the Off position.

How do I remove coil elements?

  1. Push in the edge of coil element toward the receptacle. Then lift it just enough to clear the burner bowl.
  2. Pull the coil element straight away from the receptacle.

How do I remove burner bowls?

Lift out the burner bowl.

How do I replace burner bowls?

Line up openings in the burner bowl with the coil element receptacle.

How do I replace coil elements?

  1. Holding the coil element as level as possible, slowly push coil element terminal into the receptacle.
  2. When the terminal is pushed into the receptacle as far as it will go, push down the edge of the coil element opposite the receptacle.

What should I do when canning for long periods?

When canning for long periods, alternate the use of surface cooking areas, elements, or surface burners between batches. This allows time for the most recently used areas to cool.

How should I center the canner?

Center the canner on the grate or largest surface cooking area or element. On electric cooktops, canners should not extend more than ½" (1.3 cm) beyond the surface cooking area or element.

Where should I not place the canner?

Do not place canner on 2 surface cooking areas, elements, or surface burners at the same time.

What type of canners should I use on ceramic glass models?

On ceramic glass models, use only flat-bottomed canners.

What is recommended on coil element models when canning?

On coil element models, the installation of a Canning Unit Kit is recommended. If a kit is not installed, the life of the coil element will be shortened. See “Assistance or Service” for ordering instructions.

Where can I get more information about home canning?

For more information, contact your local agricultural department. Companies that manufacture home canning products can also offer assistance.

What is important regarding cookware?

Do not leave empty cookware on a hot surface cooking area, element, or surface burner.

What characteristics should ideal cookware have?

Ideal cookware should have a flat bottom, straight sides, and a well-fitting lid, and the material should be of medium-to-heavy thickness.

What may rough finishes do to the cooktop?

Rough finishes may scratch the cooktop.

Can aluminum and copper cookware be used?

Aluminum and copper may be used as a core or base in cookware. However, when used as a base they can leave permanent marks on the cooktop or grates.

What is a factor in how quickly and evenly heat is transferred?

Cookware material is a factor in how quickly and evenly heat is transferred, which affects cooking results. A nonstick finish has the same characteristics as its base material. For example, aluminum cookware with a nonstick finish will take on the properties of aluminum.

Should cookware with nonstick surfaces be used under the broiler?

Cookware with nonstick surfaces should not be used under the broiler.

What are the characteristics of Aluminum cookware?

Heats quickly and evenly.

Suitable for all types of cooking.

Medium or heavy thickness is best for most cooking tasks.

What are the characteristics of Cast iron cookware?

Good for browning and frying.

Maintains heat for slow cooking.

What are the characteristics of Ceramic or Ceramic glass cookware?

Follow manufacturer’s instructions.

Heats slowly, but unevenly.

Ideal results on low to medium heat settings.

What are the characteristics of Copper cookware?

Heats very quickly and evenly.

Follow manufacturer’s instructions.

Use on low heat settings.

What are the characteristics of Porcelain enamel-on-steel or cast iron cookware?

See stainless steel or cast iron.

What are the characteristics of Stainless steel cookware?

Heats quickly, but unevenly.

A core or base of aluminum or copper on stainless steel provides even heating.
