Please observe the following safety warnings when handling the WAGO 857-409:

DANGER: Risk of electric shock and stored energy. Disconnect all power sources before performing any installations, maintenance, or modifications.

WARNING: The surface of the housing heats up during operation. Under special conditions, the temperature of the surface can exceed 70°C. The unit must cool down before touching it.

NOTICE: The products are equipped with electronic components that may be destroyed by electrostatic discharge. Observe the applicable electrostatic discharge precautions (in accordance with DIN EN 61340-5-1/-3 or comparable specifications, such as grounding, use of conductive mats, special kits and packaging).

Please pay close attention to the following when operating and assembling the WAGO 857-409:

The product must only be installed and put into operation by qualified electricians per EN 50110-1/-2 and IEC 60364.

The product is factory-calibrated. Recalibrate the product in the event of mechanical damage sustained during shipping. Do not operate the product in the event of mechanical damage.

The product may only be used and operated in the enclosure designed for this purpose.

The product is designed for use in a stable installation with additional enclosures.

Protect the product against dust and moisture.

Ensure the required pollution degree is suitable for the system.

Ensure correct polarity of supply voltage, input and output.

Offer adequate protection against UV radiation.

Ensure adequate system protection and wire gauging.

Properly connect and shield the cable.

Observe permissible temperature range of connecting cables.

The device must be located where it can be operated without any risk. The DIP switch is a device for operating the product, not a separating device.

Provide a suitable isolating facility (e.g., switch or circuit breaker) for the product.

Only use a dry or dampened (with water) cloth to clean the product. Do not use cleaning agents.

Keep sufficient distance from adjacent parts to ensure heat dissipation.

Respect the required safety-related system data for your system and your technology.

Comply with applicable standards, guidelines, legal regulations, accepted technology and the data specified in the product documentation.

This product may only be used as described in the note and the complete instructions. Use other than that specified is not permitted and can result in hazards. WAGO GmbH & Co. KG is not liable for damage resulting from non-intended or improper use.

The WAGO 857-409 is an isolating amplifier for analog signals. For your safety, please follow these guidelines:

Only use shielded signal cables for analog signals and for analog outputs. Only their grounding can protect the signal path and the device against interference. Only then the product can comply with the required criteria for electrostatic discharge and radio interference.

Ground the jumpers to the carrier rail for the shielded lines to drain any interference. Only this ensures compliance with the EMC requirements.

Use power supplies of the 787 Series from WAGO for the power supply of this product.

The enclosure is locally grounded by the protected or installation neutral (PE/N) conductor meet all relevant requirements for protection against electric shocks. This measure is only necessary in applications where voltages >30 VAC or >60 VDC can occur and be touched.

Outside of the product, suitable measures must be taken to ensure that the rated voltage is not exceeded by more than 40% due to transient disturbances.

The surrounding air temperature at the installation location shall not exceed +70°C, or -25°C.

The following warnings must be observed when using the product in hazardous areas:

WARNING:

The following products may be used as accessories:

Jumper bar: 2-way; silver-gray; insulated; IN = IN nominal current; 857-902.

This module must be installed in an ATEX or IECEx certified IP54 enclosure and used in an area of not more than pollution degree 2, as defined in IEC 60664-1.

The device may only be used in an area of not more than Overvoltage Category II as defined in EN 60664-1.

Transient protection must be provided that is set at a level not exceeding 140 % of the peak rated voltage value at the supply terminals to the equipment.

In the case of a malfunction, if the rated voltage is above 42.4 V peak, it is not excluded that the device does not represent a non-sparking electrical apparatus.

The surrounding air temperature at the installation location shall not exceed +70°C, or -25°C.

The product must be operated with a power supply that complies with the requirements for devices with limited power supply energy (LPS) per IEC 60950-1, section 2.5 or NEC Class 2.

The WAGO 857-409 consists of the following components:

(1) Status LED

(2) Configuration interface

(3) DIP switch

(4) Input terminals

(5) Zero adjustment

(6) Span adjustment

(7) Output terminals

(8) Power supply

The WAGO 857-409 isolating amplifier is snapped onto a DIN-35 carrier rail per EN 60715 (35×15; 35×7.5) without any tools.

Mounting: Snap the isolating amplifier onto the carrier rail, such that the beginning of the spring is at the level of the carrier rail.

Dismounting: To remove, insert a screwdriver (e.g., WAGO 210-720) into the opening at the bottom of the device, lever it up, and lift the isolating amplifier from the carrier rail.

Multiple modules of the WAGO 857-409 may be snapped on in a row. For operating tools (e.g., using the operating slot), the side of the module must have already been snapped on in a row.

Note: The front plate is used for mounting/dismounting the isolating amplifier. Use the operating tool to lever it out/in.

To wire the WAGO 857-409, use the CAGE CLAMP® connection of the 857 Series. Follow these steps:

1. Before performing any work on the product, open the isolating switch.

2. Strip the conductor by 8-9 mm / 0.33 in. For CAGE CLAMP® S connections, only strip by 9-10 mm / 0.37 in.

3. To open the clamping unit, push the operating tool down. The operating tool remains in this position.

4. Insert the stripped conductor into the clamping unit.

5. Remove the operating tool. The conductor is clamped.

The WAGO 857-409 can be configured via DIP switches. The following table shows the switch settings for the input and output ranges. An “x” indicates the switch is in the “ON” position.

To perform a Zero/Span adjustment on the WAGO 857-409, use the potentiometers on the front panel. Set the DIP switches as required for the adjustment.

When using the WAGO 857-409 in specific environments, please follow these instructions:

When the product is used in harsh environments, it must be installed in an enclosure which complies with at least IP54 per IEC 60529.

If the product is used in a hazardous area, it must be labeled and configured by the factory for hazardous area use.

For use in hazardous areas, refer to the documents contained in the Ex kit accompanying the product.

For safe operation of the WAGO 857-409 in potentially explosive areas, please adhere to the following:

The device must be installed in an enclosure with a protection degree of at least IP54 according to IEC/EN 60079-15.

In the event of a fault, parts with rated voltage higher than 42.4 V peak are not considered to be non-arcing.

A switch or circuit breaker which meets the requirements of IEC/EN 60947-1 and IEC/EN 60947-3 must be installed between the non-hazardous location supply network and all device poles.

When installing the WAGO 857-409 in a UL-certified hazardous location, follow these instructions:

WARNING: Explosion Hazard – Do not disconnect equipment unless power has been switched off or the area is known to be non-hazardous.

WARNING: Explosion Hazard – Substitution of components may impair suitability for Class I, Division 2.

This product is suitable for use in Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C & D or non-hazardous locations only.

This product is to be fitted within an approved enclosure only.
