The VADDIO 999-8240-001 AV Bridge Mini HD Audio/Video Encoder has the following features:

IP Address button and indicator light:

• Press to display the device’s IP address in the USB stream. Press again to dismiss the IP address information.

• Illuminated: Streams are displaying the IP address.

• Off: Normal display.

Power/Reset button and indicator light:

• Press to reboot the device.

• Illuminated: Normal operation.

• Off: No power to the device.

• Blinking: Error.

• Network/PoE – This port provides access to the web interface and powers the AV Bridge Mini.

• USB 3.0 – Uncompressed video output with PCM audio for conferencing applications.

• Audio I/O Line Out 1 and Line Out 2 – Far-end audio from conferencing application or as configured in the audio matrix.

• Audio I/O Mic/Line In 1 and Mic/Line In 2 – Microphone or other audio inputs. Can be configured to supply phantom power.

• HDMI – Video (and audio, if available) from the connected camera or other HDMI source.

• RS-232 – Connect to an optional third-party control system.

For the VADDIO 999-8240-001, follow these cabling guidelines:

• Use Cat-5e or better cable and standard RJ-45 connectors with 568B termination. It is recommended to use high-quality connectors and a high-quality crimping tool.

• Do not use pass-through RJ-45 connectors. If crimped incorrectly, they can damage the product’s connectors, cause intermittent connections, and degrade signal quality. Physical damage may void the warranty.

• Use shielded cabling if cables will be coiled, run tightly with other cables, or placed near sources of electromagnetic interference like power lines.

• To prevent mishaps, label both ends of every cable.

The RS-232 serial port on the VADDIO 999-8240-001 connects to a third-party controller and has the following pin-out and parameters:

Communication parameters:

Depending on the connected equipment, a null-modem (crossover) cable may be required.

Power up the VADDIO 999-8240-001 and the connected equipment at the same time, or power up the connected equipment before you power up the AV Bridge Mini.

To see the current IP address of the VADDIO 999-8240-001, press the IP button on the front panel. The IP address and other network information will be displayed on the USB and IP streams. You can access the USB stream from the connected computer to view this information.

Supported web browsers for the VADDIO 999-8240-001 include:

• Safari®

Other browsers may also work.

You can access the web interface using the device’s IP address. If your network supports hostname resolution, you can also use the configured hostname.

Enter the IP address or hostname in your browser’s address bar. If using a hostname, you may need to add “http://” as a prefix.

If the system is configured for guest access, you will not need to log in. Only the operator’s page is available with guest access.

If a login is required for user access, the username is user. If you do not know the password, contact the system administrator.

If administrative controls are not visible, you are likely logged in as a user or as a guest. To log in as an administrator:

1. Use the menu access button to select the admin login.

2. The default password is password.

The admin account has access to all pages of the web interface for system administration and performance configuration tasks.

With admin access, you can find controls on the following pages of the VADDIO 999-8240-001 web interface:

By default, the device is set to DHCP. If no DHCP server is available, it will use the IP address 169.254.1.1. To prevent IP conflicts when installing multiple devices, configure a unique static IP for each.

To access the Networking page during installation:

1. Connect the device according to the connection diagram, but do not connect it to the main network.

2. Connect the network port on the device directly to the network port on a computer. A crossover cable may be needed.

3. Open a browser and access the device’s web interface at http://169.254.1.1.

4. Log in as admin. The default password is password.

5. Navigate to the Networking page.

To configure the device with a specific static IP address:

1. Work with your IT department to determine the correct IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.

2. On the Networking page, set IP Address to Static.

3. Enter the assigned IP address, subnet mask, and gateway, then save your work.

The device is now ready to be connected to the network.

If your network supports hostname resolution, you can change the device’s hostname to something easy to remember. Go to the Networking page in the web interface, enter the new hostname in the Hostname field, and save the changes. Ensure the new hostname conforms to your organization’s naming conventions.

To prevent the IP address of your VADDIO 999-8240-001 from changing in a DHCP environment, you can set it to Static after it has received an IP address. On the Networking page of the web interface, change the IP Address setting from DHCP to Static. Do not change the IP address, subnet mask, or gateway fields that were populated by the DHCP server. Save the changes.

To ensure accurate timestamps in the diagnostic log, follow these steps on the Networking page:

1. Enable “Automatic NTP Updating” to make the time zone and NTP server fields editable.

2. Select your time zone from the list.

3. Optional: Specify a different NTP server. If unsure, use the default.

4. Save your changes.

5. To update the system time immediately, select Refresh. Otherwise, it will update at the next scheduled contact with the NTP server.

On the Security page of the web interface, you can configure the following settings:

• Change a password: Select “Edit Password” for the user or admin account to open the password dialog box.

• Idle session time-out: Check the box labeled “Automatically Expire Idle Sessions” to automatically log out after 30 minutes of inactivity.

• Require a password for user access: Clear the box labeled “Allow Guest Access”.

• Disable Telnet access: Clear the box labeled “Telnet Server Enabled”.

For best security, it is strongly recommended to change the default user and admin passwords.

On the Security page, under Advanced Settings, you can manage secure connections.

To switch to a secure HTTPS connection for the current session:

• Select “Switch to HTTPS”.

To require all future connections to use HTTPS:

• Clear the box labeled “HTTP Access Enabled”. The device’s web interface will then only be available via an HTTPS connection.

On the Room Labels page, you can enter information about the equipment’s location and a local IT or A/V help line number. This information will then be displayed on all pages of the web interface for easy reference.

If the device stops responding as expected, you can reboot it. Go to the System page in the web interface. In the System Utilities section, select Reboot, then confirm. You will need to log in again after the reboot is complete.

You can export the configuration from one device and import it to others of the same model. This is done on the System page.

To export a configuration:

• Select “Export Data”. The configuration will download as a .dat file to your default download location. The filename will be the device’s hostname. This operation does not copy device-specific data like hostname or passwords.

To import a configuration:

1. Select “Import”. The Import Data box will open.

2. Select “Choose File”, and browse to the .dat file you want to import.

3. Select “Begin Importing Data”. The device will reboot when the import is complete, and you will need to log in again.

Follow these steps to update the firmware:

1. First, download the appropriate firmware update file.

2. On the System page of the web interface, in the Firmware Update pane, select “Choose File”.

3. Browse to the update file you downloaded and select it.

4. Select “Begin Firmware Update”.

5. Read the information in the confirmation dialog box carefully.

6. When you are ready to proceed, select “Continue”. The device will reboot as the final step of the update process.

If you encounter a problem you can’t solve, technical support may ask for the device’s log file. You can access this on the Diagnostics page of the web interface. From this screen, you can view the log and use the “Download” button to save the log file to your computer.

Audio controls are available on the Audio page (Analog and Digital tabs) of the web interface.

• To mute all audio: Use the microphone mute control at the top of any page.

• To mute a specific audio input or output: Click the microphone or speaker icon associated with that specific input or output.

• To change the volume of a specific audio input or output: Move the volume slider associated with that input or output.

Note: For best performance with most computers, it is recommended to set the USB Record volume high.

On the Audio page, Analog tab, you can adjust the following microphone settings:

• High-pass filter: Specify the lowest frequency the microphone should pick up. This helps reduce low-frequency background noise like HVAC systems.

• Low-pass filter: Specify the highest frequency the microphone should pick up. This helps reduce hissing sounds and makes speech sound more natural.

• Automatic Gain Control (AGC): Check this box to automatically adjust gain to compensate for volume differences between different speakers.

On the Audio page, Analog tab, you can adjust the speaker outputs:

• To compensate for differing speech volumes: If some people on the far end are too quiet while others are too loud, check the “Compressor” box to reduce the dynamic range from the speakers.

• To compensate for specific audio issues: Use the equalizers for the analog outputs to attenuate specific frequency ranges. This can help with unwanted sounds like a rumbling HVAC system.

If the video lags noticeably behind the audio in the IP stream, you can add a delay to the audio. On the Audio page, Digital tab, check the “Delay” box for the appropriate audio outputs (IP Stream Left/Right) and enter a delay value in milliseconds. The delay may differ between outputs.

Audio routing is configured on the Audio page, Matrix tab. The audio matrix defines where each audio output originates. Each column represents an output, and each row represents an input. Cells highlighted in blue indicate that the input is routed to that output.

To specify how an audio input is used, locate its row. Then, locate the column for the desired output and select the table cell where the row and column intersect to route the audio.

To adjust the crosspoint gain between any routed input and output, go to the Audio page, Matrix tab. Right-click the table cell for the specific route to open a gain control slider, which allows you to adjust the gain for that crosspoint.

The VADDIO 999-8240-001 accepts the following resolutions and frame rates from the connected camera or other video input device:

• 3840x2160p at 30 fps

• 1920x1080p at 60, 59.94, 50, and 30 fps

• 1920x1080i at 60, 59.94, and 50 fps

• 1280x720p at 60, 59.94, and 50 fps

• 1440×900 at 60 fps

• 1280×800 at 60 fps

Go to the Streaming page in the web interface to configure USB settings.

• To change the USB device name: Edit the “USB Device Name” field to change how the device appears in your soft client’s device list.

• To allow soft client control of the audio: Check the “Enabled” box for “HID Audio Controls” to allow conferencing applications to control the audio.

Note that most USB streaming settings are automatically negotiated with the conferencing application.

On the Streaming page, under Video Settings:

1. Select “Easy” quality mode.

2. Select the desired IP streaming resolution (e.g., 720p, 1080p). This determines the window size of the stream.

3. Select the Video Quality (e.g., Low Bandwidth, Standard, High Quality).

4. Save your changes.

If streaming quality is poor, try a lower resolution or bandwidth setting.

On the Streaming page, under Video Settings:

1. Select “Custom” quality mode.

2. Select the desired resolution.

3. Select the desired IP streaming frame rate.

4. Select either “Constant” or “Variable” bit rate.

5. If using Constant bit rate, set the “Max Bandwidth”.

6. If using Variable bit rate, set the “Quality (Quantization)” slider.

7. Save your changes.

To configure RTSP streaming:

On the Streaming page, select the RTSP protocol. It is recommended to use the default RTSP port number (554). You can change the “Path” to help identify the stream source (e.g., demo-studio-3). The full streaming URL will be displayed.

To view the RTSP stream:

1. Open a stream viewer application, such as VLC Media Player.

2. Select the “Network stream” option (or equivalent).

3. Copy the full streaming URL from the VADDIO 999-8240-001’s Streaming page and paste it into the viewer.

To use RTMP streaming, you must have an account with a streaming service provider. Configure RTMP streaming before enabling it.

1. On the Streaming page, select the RTMP protocol, then select “Settings”.

2. Expand the information box for one of the available service slots (e.g., Service 2).

3. Enter the name of the service.

4. Paste in the key and URL(s) provided by your streaming service.

5. After configuring, expand the “Enabled Service” dropdown list and select the service you just configured.

6. Enable IP streaming to start sending content to the streaming service.

You have several options to stop or modify the IP stream from the Streaming page:

• To stop IP streaming entirely: Clear the “Enable IP Streaming” check box.

• To stop only the video: Mute the video. Audio will remain available.

• To stop only the audio: Mute the audio. Video will continue to stream.

• To stop streaming to a content service but keep it available on the network: Change the protocol from RTMP to RTSP.

• To stop all streaming: Put the AV Bridge Mini in standby mode.

Some labels in the web interface, such as “Line/Mic 1”, are customizable. To rename a label, right-click it. If it is customizable, a dialog box will open allowing you to enter a new name.

The Vaddio serial command API allows control via an external device (like AMX or Crestron) through Telnet or a direct RS-232 connection.

Things to know about Telnet:

• Telnet port 23 is used.

• You must log in using the admin account.

• The “>” character is the command prompt.

• Using a question mark (?) as a command or parameter will list available commands, subcommands, or parameters.

• CTRL-5 clears the current serial buffer on the device.

Typographical conventions:

• n {x | y | z} – Choose x, y, or z.

• n <variable> – A named variable (e.g., <ip address>) is required.

• n <x..y> – A value in the range of x through y is required.

• n [optional] – This parameter is not required.

This command gets or sets the volume of a specified audio channel. The valid range depends on the channel.

Synopsis: `audio [ channel ] volume { get | up | down | set }`

Options:

• get: Returns the current volume of the specified channel.

• up: Increases the volume of the specified channel by 1 dB.

• down: Reduces the volume of the specified channel by 1 dB.

• set <level>: Sets the volume in dB. Valid ranges: Line in/out, master: -50.0 to 20.0 dB; USB, IP, HDMI: -42.0 to 6.0 dB.

Examples:

`audio line_in_1 volume up` (Increases the volume for Line In 1 by 1 dB)

`audio line_out_1 volume get` (Returns the current volume for the line out port)

This command gets or sets the mute status of a specified audio channel.

Synopsis: `audio mute {get | on | off | toggle}`

Options:

• get: Returns the current mute state.

• on: Mutes the audio for the channel.

• off: Unmutes the audio for the channel.

• toggle: Changes the mute state (unmutes if muted, mutes if not).

Example:

`audio master mute get` (Returns the current mute state of the master mute)

`audio line_out_1 mute on` (Mutes the Line Out 1 port)

This command gets or sets the input routed to a specified output.

Synopsis: `audio route {get | set }`

Example:

`audio ip_out_right route set line_in_1` (Routes Line Input 1 to the right channel of the outbound IP stream)

This command returns or sets the input routing gain, in dB, for a given output and input.

Synopsis: `audio

crosspoint-gain {get | set }`

Options:

• get: Returns the routing gain from the specified input to the specified output.

• set <-12.00..12.00>: Sets the routing gain. The valid range is -12.00 dB to 12.00 dB.

Example:

`audio line_out_1 crosspoint-gain hdmi_in_left get` (Returns the current gain of the crosspoint between Line Output 1 and HDMI Input Left)

`audio usb3_record_left crosspoint-gain line_in_1 set 6.00` (Sets the crosspoint gain of USB Record Left and Line In 1 to 6 dB)

This command returns the current IP and USB streaming settings.

Synopsis: `streaming settings get`

This command sets or changes the state of IP streaming.

Synopsis: `streaming ip enable { get | on | off | toggle }`

Parameters:

• get: Returns the current state of IP streaming.

• on: Enables IP streaming.

• off: Disables IP streaming.

• toggle: Changes the state of IP streaming (on if it was off, off if it was on).

Example:

`streaming ip enable on` (Enables IP streaming)

This command sends an ICMP ECHO_REQUEST to the specified IP address or hostname.

Synopsis: `network ping [count ] [size ] `

Options:

• <count>: The number of ECHO_REQUEST packets to send. Default is five.

• <size>: The size of each ECHO_REQUEST packet. Default is 56 bytes.

• <destination-ip>: The IP address where the packets will be sent.

Example:

`network ping count 10 size 100 192.168.1.1` (Sends 10 packets of 100 bytes each to the host at 192.168.1.1)

This command returns the device’s current network settings, including MAC address, IP address, netmask, and gateway.

Synopsis: `network settings get`

This command reboots the system either immediately or after a specified delay.

Synopsis: `system reboot []`

Options:

• <seconds>: The number of seconds to delay the reboot.

Example:

`system reboot 30` (Reboots the system in 30 seconds)

This command gets or sets the factory reset status. When the status is on, the system resets to factory defaults on the next reboot. This command does not initiate the reboot itself.

Synopsis: `system factory-reset { get | on | off }`

Options:

• get: Returns the device’s current factory reset status.

• on: Enables factory reset on the next reboot.

• off: Disables factory reset on reboot.

Example:

`system factory-reset on` (Enables factory reset upon the next reboot)

To check the current firmware version, use the `version` command.

Synopsis: `version`

The command will return the current firmware version information for Audio, Commit, System Version, and USB.

• history <limit>: Returns the most recently issued commands from the current Telnet session. The optional <limit> specifies the maximum number of commands to return. You can navigate the command history with the up and down arrow keys.

• help: Displays an overview of the command-line interface (CLI) syntax. Use `?` as a command parameter for information about a specific command’s syntax.

• exit: Ends the command session. If via Telnet, the socket closes. If via RS-232, a new session automatically opens.

If a connected microphone does not work, it may require phantom power that is not enabled. Go to the Audio page in the web interface and enable phantom power for the affected microphone input.

To restore the original factory settings, go to the System page of the web interface and select “Restore Factory Settings”. A confirmation message will appear, reminding you that the action cannot be undone. This operation logs you out and resets the admin password to its factory default value of password.

• For smears or smudges, wipe with a clean, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive chemicals.

• Keep the device away from food and liquids.

• Do not operate or store the device under any of the following conditions:

– Temperatures above 40°C (104°F) or below 0°C (32°F)

– High humidity, condensing or wet environments

– Inclement weather

– Severe vibration

– Dry environments with an excess of static discharge

• Do not attempt to take this product apart. There are no user-serviceable components inside.
