To install the TRENDNET TEW-T1, you will need the following:

• A computer with a PCMCIA Type II/III CardBus slot

• A CD-ROM Drive

• Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, or XP operating system

The TRENDNET TEW-T1 has two LED indicators on the front panel that display the device’s status.

Follow these steps for the hardware installation of your TRENDNET TEW-T1:

Step 1. With your PC powered on, locate an available PCMCIA slot.

Step 2. Insert the TRENDNET TEW-T1 firmly into the PCMCIA slot.

Step 3. Windows will automatically detect the TRENDNET TEW-T1.

After inserting the TRENDNET TEW-T1, you will need to install the drivers. Follow the steps for your specific Windows operating system.

Step 1. Insert the Utility & Driver CD-ROM into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

For Windows 98SE/ME:

Step 2. The “Add New Hardware Wizard” will appear. Select “Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)” and click Next.

Step 3. Check “Specify a location” and type D:\Drivers\Win9x (where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive). Click Next.

Step 4. Windows will find the driver for the TRENDNET TEW-T1. Click Next to continue.

Step 5. Insert the Windows 98SE/ME CD-ROM if prompted and click OK.

Step 6. When the driver installation is complete, click Finish.

For Windows 2000:

Step 7. The “Found New Hardware Wizard” will appear. Click Next.

Step 8. Select “Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)” and click Next.

Step 9. Check “CD-ROM drives” and click Next. Windows will find the driver for the TRENDNET TEW-T1. Click Next to continue.

Step 10. When the driver installation is complete, click Finish.

For Windows XP:

Step 11. The “Found New Hardware Wizard” will appear. Select “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)” and click Next.

Step 12. Check “Search for the best driver in these locations,” then check “Include this location in the search.” Type D:\Drivers\WinXP (where D is the letter of your CD-ROM drive) and click Next.

Step 13. When the driver installation is complete, click Finish.

You can check the connection status of your TRENDNET TEW-T1 using the Configuration Utility. The “Link Information” screen displays the following:

• Status: Shows the BSSID of the Access Point the PC Card is associated with. If the PC Card is not associated, it will display “Not Associated”.

• SSID: The Service Set Identifier of the wireless network.

• Tx Rate: The current transfer rate.

• Channel: The current channel being used.

• Link Quality: The quality of the wireless connection.

• Signal Strength: The strength of the wireless signal.

• Statistics: Shows the number of frames transmitted and received.

• Rescan Button: Clicking this button will force the wireless adapter to rescan for available networks.

To configure the network settings for your TRENDNET TEW-T1, use the “Configuration” tab in the utility. You can set the following options:

• Network Type: Choose between “Infrastructure” to connect to an Access Point or “Ad-Hoc” to connect directly to other wireless computers.

• Channel (Ad-Hoc only): Select the channel for your Ad-Hoc network (from 1 to 11).

• SSID: Enter the SSID of the wireless network you wish to connect to. The SSID is case-sensitive and must match the Access Point’s SSID.

• Transfer Rate: Choose the desired transfer rate. “Auto” is recommended for automatic speed adjustment.

• PSM (Power Saving Mode): Enable this to conserve battery life. “CAM (Constantly Awake Mode)” offers the highest performance but uses more power. “PSM (Power Saving Mode)” offers longer battery life at the cost of performance.

After making changes, click the “Apply” button to save them.

To configure WEP encryption for your TRENDNET TEW-T1, navigate to the “Encryption” tab in the Configuration Utility and follow these steps:

Step 1. Select the WEP key length from the “WEP” drop-down menu (e.g., 64Bit or 128Bit). This must match the WEP setting on your Access Point.

Step 2. Create your WEP key. You can create a key using one of two methods:

• Passphrase: Type a word or group of printable characters in the Passphrase field and click “Generate”. The utility will automatically generate four WEP keys.

• Manual Entry: Manually enter the WEP key in hexadecimal format (using characters 0-9 and A-F). For 64-bit WEP, you need to enter 10 characters. For 128-bit WEP, you need to enter 26 characters.

Step 3. Select which of the four keys (Key 1, 2, 3, or 4) you want to use for transmitting data.

Step 4. Click the “Apply” button to save your settings.

If your TRENDNET TEW-T1 is not working after installation, please check the following:

1. Ensure the card is properly inserted into the PCMCIA slot.

2. In Windows, go to the Control Panel and open the System icon. Under the Device Manager tab, check for any exclamation marks under Network Adapters. If an exclamation mark appears, it indicates a driver installation problem. Please highlight the device and remove it, then reboot your PC and reinstall the driver.

If you have installed the driver but your computer cannot find the TRENDNET TEW-T1, try the following:

1. Remove the TRENDNET TEW-T1 and reinsert it into the PCMCIA slot.

2. Try using the TRENDNET TEW-T1 in a different PCMCIA slot if one is available.

3. Reboot your computer.

If your TRENDNET TEW-T1 is not connecting to the access point, please verify the following settings in the wireless network properties:

1. Check if the Network Mode (Infrastructure or Ad-Hoc) is configured correctly.

2. Check if the SSID is the same as the access point’s SSID. SSIDs are case-sensitive.

3. Check if the WEP key is the same as the one used by the access point. The WEP Key length and key itself must match.

If you have a wireless connection but no internet access with your TRENDNET TEW-T1, the issue may be with the access point’s connection to the broadband modem or router. Please check the network settings on the access point and ensure it is properly connected to your internet source.
