THETFORD T1274 (01) PDF SUMMARY:
How should I prepare the enclosure before installing the refrigerator?
Make sure that the enclosure is the correct size, the floor is solid and level, there are no adjacent heat sources, and any exterior vents are blocked. The floor must extend the full width and depth of the enclosure and be able to support the weight of the refrigerator and its contents.
What are the ventilation requirements for the refrigerator?
Correct ventilation is necessary for the proper operation of the refrigerator and to increase the life of the cooling system. The refrigerator has a built-in vent at the top and clearance at the bottom, and the flow of air through these vents must not be blocked. Cooler air enters under the refrigerator, goes around the refrigerator coils, removes the heat, and exits through an upper exhaust vent.
What can happen if the refrigerator’s vents are blocked?
Blockage of air through the vents can lead to a shortened life of the refrigerator cooling unit, poor cooling performance, continuous operation of the refrigerator, fast battery discharge, and void of the refrigerator warranty.
What are the key dimensions I should be aware of?
For T1274 models, the dimensions are 1521-1524 mm high x 597-600 mm wide x 610 mm deep. The refrigerator cabinet width is 592 mm, the cabinet height is 1521 mm, the refrigerator top to control top is 53 mm, the enclosure depth is 610 mm, the refrigerator bottom feet to middle handles is 1034 mm, the refrigerator bottom to bottom of feet is 22 mm, and the enclosure front to door front is 75 mm. For enclosures deeper than 610 mm, ensure that the refrigerator is inserted only to the depth of the breaker. If the enclosure is deeper than 635 mm, a fire retardant baffle should be installed in the rear of the enclosure to make the enclosure depth 610 mm to optimize performance.
How do I reverse the door swing of the refrigerator?
- Remove the refrigerator from the enclosure to access the bottom hinges.
- Remove the frozen food and fresh food doors by opening the frozen food door, removing the screws from the center hinge pin, and pulling the doors away from the cabinet. Lift the doors off the center hinge, remove the center hinge, and then remove the fresh food door.
- Reverse the cabinet door swing by removing the screws that attach the strike plate, reversing the strike plate and placing it on the other side of the refrigerator cabinet, and attaching it with the screws. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the hinge pin and move it to the other side.
- Change the position of the door handles by popping the handle out of the housing of each door with a flathead screwdriver, removing 2 screws and the handle housing, catch, and spring from each door, and removing one screw and the pocket cover from the other side of the door. Move the lower handle to the upper door and the upper handle to the lower door, then attach each door handle and pocket cover with the screws.
- Lay the refrigerator on its side to access the bottom hinge, ensuring the side closest to the compressor is down. Move the bottom hinge to the new side and return the refrigerator to a standing position.
- Reinstall the doors by placing the fresh food door on the bottom hinge pin, putting the center hinge and hinge pin in the top of the fresh food door, sliding the frozen food door up into the top hinge pin, and pulling both doors slightly away from the unit to place the frozen food door on the center hinge pin. Attach the center hinge with screws.
How do I fasten the refrigerator into the enclosure?
Push the refrigerator fully into the enclosure opening, install shims between the enclosure wall and refrigerator to prevent bowing when installing mounting screws, and install the 6 provided mounting screws, 3 on each side. Install hole plugs to cover the screw holes.
How can I install a safety strap (optional)?
Remove one of the screws fastening the control bracket and reinstall it to fasten the strap or cable. Alternatively, a screw may be driven into the breaker in the specified 76 mm x 38 mm area. The strap or cable should be routed away from the wiring on top of the refrigerator.
What are the electrical current requirements for the T1274 models?
The T1274 models require a 12 volts DC voltage (10.4 volts min. – 15.4 volts max.) for DC operation.
What should I avoid doing with the electrical wiring?
Do not make any changes to the electrical wiring supplied with the refrigerator, as this will void the warranty.
How do I connect the 12V DC supply?
The refrigerator must have an independent filtered 12V DC supply. Route the DC power supply wires, including fuses, directly from the power source to the refrigerator using either Option A or Option B.
- Option A: Use a battery in parallel between the refrigerator and the battery charger or an electrically filtered power converter. A fuse or circuit breaker should be wired as close to the power supply as possible.
- Option B: Wire the refrigerator directly to the electrically filtered DC power converter. The power converter must have a maximum DC ripple voltage less than or equal to 250mV. A fuse or circuit breaker should be wired as close to the power supply as possible.
It is recommended to install 1/4” insulated female spade terminals or Stocko connector W2041.100G to the connecting wire. Alternatively, the connector may be cut off and the connection can be wired via closed-end connectors (bell cap) or crimp connectors. If the factory connector is cut off, proper care should be taken to ensure the connection is made correctly.
What factors influence the wire size for the DC power supply?
As the distance from the power source to the refrigerator increases, the correct AWG wire size also increases. Longer wire lengths increase voltage drop and the risk that the refrigerator may not turn back on after a drop in DC voltage. The voltage required to start the compressor is 11.7 volts, and the compressor will stop working when the voltage falls below 10.5 volts. The wire size should be selected so that the voltage drop from the vehicle battery or power converter is no more than 0.3V. If the distance is 0 – 3 m, use 6mm² minimum wire size; if it is 3-6 m, use 8mm² minimum; if it is over 6 m, use 10mm² minimum.
How should I protect the DC power supply wiring?
Install a fuse or circuit breaker in the positive (+) DC power supply wire as close to the battery or power source as possible. The fuse should be sized according to the BS EN 1648-1 and 2 standard for leisure accommodation vehicles. There is a 25A automotive fuse in the DC circuit at the refrigerator power supply leads, which should only be replaced with a 25A automotive fuse.
How do I connect the DC power supply wires correctly?
Connect the positive (+) DC power supply lead to the red wire of the refrigerator and the negative (-) DC power supply lead to the white wire of the refrigerator. Each DC power supply lead must be attached to the correct polarity wire of the refrigerator power supply. The chassis or vehicle frame must not be used as one of the conductors. The DC power supply wires, including the fuses, must be routed directly from the power source to the refrigerator. Wire connections must be clean, tight, and free of corrosion.
What precaution should I take before “fast charging” the battery?
Disconnect the positive (+) DC power supply wire from the battery before doing a “fast charge” of the battery. Failure to do so can cause damage to the refrigerator or other DC appliances.
What should I do before powering on the refrigerator after installation?
Allow the refrigerator to stand upright for 30 minutes before being powered on.
How do I operate the controls of the refrigerator?
- Touch and release the ON/OFF button to turn the refrigerator on. A solid blue indicator light means the refrigerator is operating correctly.
- The frozen food compartment and cabinet work independently and must both be adjusted to their desired temperature setting.
- Touch the FROZEN FOOD COMPARTMENT button to set its temperature using the + or – buttons. The mode will display the temperature setting (0 is off, 1 is warmest, 5 is coldest).
- Touch the CABINET COMPARTMENT button to set the fresh food compartment temperature using the + or – buttons. The mode will display the temperature setting (0 is off, 1 is warmest, 5 is coldest).
- Press any button to return the control to activate mode. The display will return to standby mode after 5 seconds.
- Touch the NIGHT MODE button to set the refrigerator to night mode, which turns off automatically after 8 hours or if you push the button again. The 8 hour default can be changed by pressing the night mode button for 3 seconds and then using the + or – buttons to adjust the hours, then pressing the night mode button to make the setting go into effect.
How do I shut down the refrigerator?
To shut down the refrigerator, touch and hold the ON/OFF button for 5 seconds and release. There is a 5 minute wait cycle before the refrigerator can be turned back on.
What temperature limitations should I be aware of?
Do not operate the refrigerator when the ambient temperature is higher than 43°C, as this can cause permanent damage to the compressor and poor cooling performance.
