In addition to commercially-available audio CDs, the TASCAM CD-9010 can play CD-R discs that have been recorded in audio CD (CD-DA) format, as well as CD-R discs that have WAV audio files recorded on them. It can also playback 8cm discs.

Note: Music discs with copy control or copy-protection systems may not comply with CD specifications and may not be playable on this unit.

Follow these guidelines for handling compact discs:

Handling:

• Always load compact discs with their labels facing upward.
• To remove a disc from its case, press down on the center of the disc holder, then lift the disc out, holding it carefully by the edges.
• Do not touch the signal side (the unlabeled side). Fingerprints, oils, and other substances can cause errors during playback.
• Do not use cracked discs.
• Only use circular compact discs. Avoid using non-circular promotional discs.

Cleaning:

• To clean the signal side of a disc, wipe gently with a soft dry cloth from the center towards the outside edge.
• Do not use any record spray, anti-static solutions, benzene, paint thinner, or other chemical agents to clean CDs as they could damage the delicate playing surface.

You can adjust the display contrast using the front panel controls or the menu.

Setting using the controls:

With the Home Screen open, while pressing and holding the TIME DISPLAY button, turn the DATA dial to adjust the unit’s display contrast.

Setting using the menu:

1. Press the MENU button to open the MENU screen.
2. Open the SYSTEM menu.
3. Select LCD CONTRAST.
4. Press the DATA dial to move the cursor right to select the value.
5. Turn the DATA dial to adjust the contrast (Options: 0–63).
6. Press the HOME button to return to the Home Screen.

You can adjust the brightness of the display backlight and the indicators.

Setting using the controls:

When the Home Screen is open, while pressing and holding the HOME button, turn the DATA dial to adjust the brightness of the unit’s display and indicators. You can also adjust the brightness of the display alone by pressing and turning the DATA dial while pressing and holding the HOME button.

Setting using the menu:

1. Press the MENU button to open the MENU screen.
2. Open the SYSTEM menu.
3. Select LCD BRIGHTNESS or LED BRIGHTNESS.
4. Press the DATA dial to move the cursor right to select the value.
5. Turn the DATA dial to adjust the brightness (Options: 0–7).
6. Press the HOME button to return to the Home Screen.

The unit can be set so that it can only be operated using a remote control.

1. Press the MENU button to open the MENU screen.
2. Open the REMOTE menu screen.
3. Select OPERATION PANEL.
4. Press the DATA dial to move the cursor right to select the setting.
5. Turn the DATA dial to select one of the following:
   • CD+RC: The unit can be controlled using a remote control and the unit’s front panel buttons.
   • RC ONLY: The unit’s front panel buttons (other than the OPEN/CLOSE button) are disabled.
6. Press the HOME button to return to the Home Screen.

Note: To unlock the panel, press the MENU button while pressing and holding the HOME button. When the pop-up message appears, select “Yes” to unlock.

Use the PLAY MODE button to cycle through the playback modes in the following order:

CONTINUE mode (Continuous playback): The tracks on the CD are played in track number order.

SINGLE mode (Single playback): Only the currently selected track is played before playback stops.

PROGRAM mode (Program playback): Tracks will be played in the order programmed in advance.

This unit has two playback modes that can be output independently:

Monitoring Playback:

• Activated by pressing the MONITOR button.
• Used for cueing tracks and playback points in advance.
• Outputs signal to MONITOR OUTPUTS (On) and PHONES.
• DIGITAL OUTPUT and LINE OUTPUTS remain Off.

Online Playback:

• Activated by pressing the PLAY button.
• Used for live/on-air use.
• Outputs signal to DIGITAL OUTPUT (On) and LINE OUTPUTS (On).
• MONITOR OUTPUTS are Off (unless configured otherwise).

Note: To enable these separate functions, the ONLINE FUNCTION item in the SYSTEM menu must be set to SWTCH.OK.

When Auto Cue is ON, any “silence” at the beginning of a selected track is skipped, and the unit enters playback standby at the first point where audio is detected.

1. Press the MENU button to open the MENU screen.
2. Open the PLAY menu.
3. Select AUTO CUE.
4. Press the DATA dial and turn it to set the value to ON.
5. To set the threshold level, select AUTO CUE LEVEL in the same menu.
6. Turn the DATA dial to set the level (Values: -24 dB to -72 dB in 6 dB steps).
7. Press the HOME button to return to the Home Screen.

If the auto ready function is ON, when a track finishes playing, playback standby will occur at the beginning of the next track.

To enable:

1. Press the MENU button and open the PLAY menu.
2. Select AUTO READY.
3. Set the value to ON.
4. Press the HOME button.

When incremental playback is ON, you can use the PLAY button to start playback from the beginning of the next track or the STOP button to enter playback standby at the beginning of the next track during playback.

To enable:

1. Press the MENU button and open the PLAY menu.
2. Select INCREMENTAL PLAY.
3. Set the value to ON.
4. Press the HOME button.

You can modify the pitch and speed of the playback within a range of ±12.5%.

Turning pitch control ON/OFF:

1. Press the MENU button and open the PLAY menu.
2. Select PITCH and set it to ON.

Setting the pitch value:

1. In the PLAY menu, select PITCH %.
2. Turn the DATA dial to set the value.
3. Press the HOME button.

You can program up to 99 tracks to play in a specific order.

1. With playback stopped, press PLAY MODE to select PROGRAM mode.
2. Press MENU and open the PROGRAM/CUE menu.
3. Select PROGRAM EDIT and press the DATA dial.
4. Turn the DATA dial to select a program number/slot and press the dial.
5. Select ADD PROGRAM from the pop-up menu.
6. In the BROWSE screen, select a track using the DATA dial and press to add it.
7. Repeat to add more tracks.
8. Press HOME to finish.
9. Press MONITOR or PLAY to start playback.

You can set up to nine cue points for each CD.

Adding Cue Points:

1. Press MENU, open PROGRAM/CUE menu, and select CUE LIST EDIT.
2. Select a cue point number and press the DATA dial.
3. Select ADD CUE. The current playback or standby position is added as a cue point.

Deleting a Cue Point:

1. In the CUE LIST EDIT screen, select the cue point to delete.
2. Press the DATA dial and select DELETE CUE.

1. Press the BROWSE button to open the BROWSE screen.
2. Turn the DATA dial to select folders and files.
3. Press the DATA dial to open the BROWSE MENU for a selection.
   • Select SELECT to open a folder.
4. When a file is selected, press PLAY to start playback or STANDBY to cue it.
5. Press BROWSE to scroll through names, or press HOME to exit.

Digital Reference Level:

1. Press MENU and open the SYSTEM menu.
2. Select DIGITAL REF LVL.
3. Select from options: -20dBFS, -18dBFS (default), -16dBFS, -14dBFS, -9dBFS.

Analog Reference Level:

1. In the SYSTEM menu, select ANALOG REF LVL.
2. Depending on the Digital Ref Lvl setting, choose +4dBu (default), -20dBu, or +6dBu (only available if Digital Ref is -9dBFS).

The fail safe function prevents accidental button operation during playback.

1. Press MENU and open the SYSTEM menu.
2. Select FAIL SAFE.
3. Choose a setting:
   • LOW LIM (default): Disables MENU, ENTER, OPEN/CLOSE during playback.
   • UP LIM: Disables BROWSE, PLAY MODE, MENU, ENTER, OPEN/CLOSE, and STANDBY buttons (behavior depends on playback state).
   • OFF: No buttons are disabled.

1. Press MENU and open the SYSTEM menu.
2. Select CLOCK MASTER.
3. Select the source:
   • INT (default): Use internal clock.
   • EXT: Synchronize with WORD SYNC IN.
   • 44.1K FIX: Digital audio is always output at 44.1k FS regardless of file sampling frequency.

Note: Factory settings cannot be restored if a CD is loaded.

1. Press MENU and open the SYSTEM menu.
2. Select FACTORY PRESET.
3. Press the DATA dial to open the confirmation.
4. Press the DATA dial again to execute. “COMPLETE” will appear.
