What are the features of the StarTech.com Dual Speed Fast Ethernet desktop hubs?
The StarTech.com Dual Speed Fast Ethernet desktop hubs provide 2 powerful modes of operation: dual speed mode, or extension mode. Extension mode allows the hub to cascade from up to 100m away, breaking the standard 10m hub distance limit of 100BaseT Ethernet. Each port has 2 LED indicators that show the link speed and activity for quick and easy monitoring.
Key features include:
1. Consists of 1 internal 10Mbps Ethernet segment and 1 internal 100Mbps Fast Ethernet segment.
2. Supports auto-negotiation RJ45 ports which automatically sense and select optimum speed and route data traffic to corresponding internal segments.
3. Built in uplink port to connect with regular straight-through cable to connect to another hub.
4. Built in internal switching function automatically switches data traffic between devices running at different speed, as well as establishes communications between ports running at 10Mbps and 100Mbps.
5. Provides 1 Extension port that can be linked to another Fast Ethernet hub up to 100 meters.
6. Wall mountable.
What are the specifications for the different models of the Dual Speed Fast Ethernet hub?

What is included in the package when I purchase a Fast Ethernet Switch?
The package contains:
1 x Fast Ethernet Switch
1 x external power adapter
How do I interpret the LED indicators on the hub?
| LED | Status | Description | Number of LED |
|---|---|---|---|
| PWR (Power) | Lit | Power is supplied | One for the whole Hub |
| PWR (Power) | Off | No Power | One for the whole Hub |
| COL | Lit | Collision detected in this segment | One for 10Mbps segment and one for 100Mbps |
| COL | Off | No Collision | One for 10Mbps segment and one for 100Mbps |
| LNK/ACT (Link/Activity) | Lit | A valid link is established | One for each port |
| LNK/ACT (Link/Activity) | Flash | Data packets received | One for each port |
| LNK/ACT (Link/Activity) | Off | No link is established | One for each port |
| COL/FDX (Collision/Full Duplex) | Lit | Port is running at 100Mbps | One for each port |
| COL/FDX (Collision/Full Duplex) | Off | Not connected or running at 10Mbps | One for each port |
How do I install and set up the hub for networking?
1. Connect a Category 5 patch cable to the RJ45 jack on your computer’s network card. (The RJ45 jack looks like an oversized phone jack).
2. Connect the other end of the cable to a numbered port on the hub (not to the uplink port).
3. Once the network cable is connected to both ends and the attached network device is powered on, the green LNK/ACT LED light should be lit.
4. Repeat these steps for the remainder of the computers you would like to network.
An uplink port is used to connect to another hub/switch using regular straight-through UTP cable.
What should I do if the Power LED on the hub is not lit?
Check if the power cord is properly connected to the external power adapter and the power outlet. Make sure the DC power jack is firmly plugged into the power socket of the switch.
What should I do if a Link Status LED on the hub is not lit?
Check the power switch of the devices connected to the hub; make sure they are turned ON. Check the network cables; make sure they are properly connected to the hub and the network devices.
Check the network cables; make sure the cables comply with EIA/TIA 568 specifications. Use straight-through Category 5 cables for 100Mbps connection and Category 3 or higher cables for 10Mbps connection.
What should I do if the Collision LED on the hub flashes constantly?
Remove all the network cables; connect the cables back one by one to isolate the source of the collision.
Check the network cable, inferior cable quality will result in excessive collision and error packets.
