In addition, there should be posted, in a prominent location, detailed instructions to be followed in the event the operator smells gas. Obtain the instructions from the local gas supplier.

The STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP must be installed on a non-combustible countertop with 4″ legs or a combustible floor using a maximum 27″ high stand.

Clearances from combustible construction:

• 9″ minimum from the back wall.

• 7″ minimum from side walls.

Clearances from non-combustible surfaces:

• Back and sides may be 0″.

For servicing, a 6″ clearance is recommended from the back of the unit on non-combustible walls.

The installation must conform to the NATIONAL FUEL GAS CODE “ANSI Z223.1 – LATEST EDITION” AND ALL LOCAL GAS COMPANY RULES AND REGULATIONS.

Yes. Open hotplates like the STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP create fumes, moisture, and heat. They should be installed under an efficient exhaust hood with flame-proof filters. A vertical distance of not less than 48″ must be provided between the top of the appliance and the filters or any other combustible material. The exhaust installation must conform to local codes.

Air for combustion enters from the front and bottom of the STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP. It is important that you do not obstruct this area to ensure proper operation.

The STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP is supplied with 4 feet or floor stand legs that must be screwed into the body. The unit must be level. You can level the unit by adjusting the four feet, which have an adjustment range of 1-3/4″, to ensure an accurate and perfect line-up with other units.

CAUTION: DO NOT INSTALL WITHOUT ATTACHING FEET OR SUPPLIED STAND LEGS AND SHELF – DO NOT REMOVE FEET.

The STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP is shipped from the factory for use with propane gas. To convert it to natural gas, follow these steps:

1. Remove grates and burners.

2. Remove the burner orifice hoods and install the orifice hoods supplied for natural gas.

3. Replace the burners and grates. Ensure the venturi opening is positioned on the valve orifice.

4. Set the manifold pressure to 5 inches water column. A 1/8″ pipe plug on the burner manifold can be removed for attaching a pressure gauge. Remove the slotted, or hex-threaded plug from the pressure regulator. Invert the plug and re-install it. The letters “NAT” should now be visible on the plug. The regulator is now set for 5″ water column. The pilot flame may need to be adjusted for natural gas.

To check the entire piping system for leaks on your STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP, use a soap and water solution or another material acceptable for locating gas leakage.

CAUTION: Matches, candle flame, or other sources of ignition shall not be used for locating gas leaks.

The STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP is equipped with factory pre-set standing pilots and should be lit immediately after the gas is turned on. If the pilots need to be relit or adjusted, follow these steps:

1. Turn off the main gas valve to the unit.

2. Turn off all knobs and pilot valves and wait 5 minutes for any gas to clear.

3. The pilot lights can be adjusted by turning the adjustable screw counterclockwise to open (increase flame) and clockwise to close (decrease flame).

4. Turn on the main gas valve and light all pilots.

5. Adjust the pilot light flames to be as small as possible around the pilot head, usually about 1/4″ high, but high enough to light the burner immediately when the burner valve is turned to high.

6. Turn burner knobs to the desired setting.

7. To turn the burners off, turn the knobs clockwise to the “OFF” position.

To operate the burners on your STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP, follow this procedure:

1. To ignite the burners, turn the burner valve knob counter-clockwise to the “ON” position.

2. Slowly decrease the openings of the air shutters to achieve a soft blue flame with luminous tips. Then, slowly increase the openings to a point where the yellow tips disappear and a hard blue flame is obtained.

When the STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP is first lit, it may smoke for approximately 20-30 minutes. This is normal and is due to the preservation oils and impurities burning off.

Each burner on the STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP is controlled by an individual on-off valve. You can obtain a variety of temperatures by turning the burner valve knob to any position between ON and OFF.

• For high heat operation: Turn the valve counter-clockwise to a position of ON or close to it.

• For holding or simmering: Turn the valves closer to the OFF position on the dial.

• For even less heat: The valve may be turned OFF and the product can be kept warm on the pilot flame.

Select the heat pattern you like and set the valves accordingly. Be sure burners are staying fully lit when set in low positions.

To completely shut down the STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP, turn the burner valve knobs to the OFF position to turn the burners off, and then close the manual gas shutoff valve.

Clean your STAR ULTRA-MAX 8I-804H-LP regularly. Ensure the appliance has cooled down before cleaning.

1. Remove the grate section and burner head to a sink for washing. Brush out any carboned particles.

2. Ensure the venturi is free from grease, dirt, lint, or any other foreign material.

3. Remove and wash the crumb pan, which is located at the bottom of the unit and is easily removed from the front.

4. Wipe exterior surfaces with a mild detergent and a cloth. A non-abrasive cleaner can be used on caked areas. Be careful when spraying some cleaners as they may contain abrasives and caustics which could scratch or damage the finish.

5. After cleaning, be sure to replace the top grates laying flat and centered over the burner.
