Be sure to read and understand all safety instructions in this Operator’s Manual, including all safety alert symbols such as “DANGER,”“WARNING,” and “CAUTION” before using this tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious personal injury.

The operation of any power tools can result in foreign objects being thrown into your eyes, which can result in severe eye damage. Before beginning power tool operation, always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields and a full-face shield when needed. A Wide Vision Safety Mask is recommended for use over eyeglasses or standard safety glasses with side shields.


What is the purpose of safety symbols on the STALCO PSS20-30BL manual?

The purpose of safety symbols is to attract your attention to possible dangers. The symbol warnings do not, by themselves, eliminate any danger. The instructions and warnings they give are no substitutes for proper accident prevention measures.

What are the guidelines for battery tool use and care for the STALCO PSS20-30BL?

Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.

Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.

When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.

Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.

Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130 °C may cause explosion.

Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.


What are the rules for battery maintenance for the STALCO PSS20-30BL?

Charge timely before the battery (7) is completely exhausted. Stop operation in low power and charge it immediately.

Do not overcharge when the battery (7)is full, otherwise it will shorten the life time.

Charge battery (7) in the room temperature of 10°C to 40°C (50°F to 104°F).

Charge battery (7) every 6 months without operation for a long time.

Replace worn out batteries in time. Decline of production or a significantly shorter runtime of the power tool after charging indicates aging of the battery (7) and the need for replacement. It should be taken into account that the battery (7) may discharge faster if th works take place in the temperature below 0°C.

In case of long time storage without use, it is recommended to store the battery (7) at room temperature, it should be charged to 50%.


How do you sharpen the blades of the STALCO PSS20-30BL?

The blades (1) and (2) shall be sharpened with a diamond-coated rasp (not included into the scope of delivery) or the abrasive bar (19).

  • Sharpen the blades (1) and (2) as shown in the figure (10).
  • Do not apply excess force when sharpening the blades (1) and (2), it will cause quick wear of them.
  • Do not sharpen the flat side of the blades (1) and (2). A few gentle movements to remove the bars will be enough.

How do you set up the gap between the blades of the STALCO PSS20-30BL?

Set the gap as follows:

  • remove the battery (7) from the power tool;
  • loosen the fixing bolt (13) with the Allen key (17) (see fig. 11.1);
  • turn the nut (11) with the socket wrench (18) to widen or narrow the gap between the planes of the blades (1) and (2) (see fig. 11.2);
  • tighten the fixing bolt (13) with the Allen key (17) (see fig. 11.1).
  • Check if the gap between the planes of the blades (1) and (2) is set up correctly. They should not swing or close too tightly.

How should the blades of the STALCO PSS20-30BL be maintained?

Before starting to work and after completing the work inspect the blades (1) and (2) carefully. If necessary sharpen them as described above.

After completing the work clean the blades (1) and (2) with a stiff brush, then wipe them with a cloth.

Smear cutting edges of the blades (1) and (2) and movable components from the oiler (16) (see fig. 12).


How do you clean the STALCO PSS20-30BL power tool?

What are the procedures for switching the STALCO PSS20-30BL power tool on and off?

To switch on the power tool, you must first switch on stand-by mode.

Switching on stand-by mode:

  • Push the on / off switch (4) and hold it for 2 seconds. The power tool is now in stand-by mode (an acoustic signal will sound and the power indicator (5) will light green (see fig. 4.1)).
  • Push and release the actuating lever 3 twice (see fig. 4.2) to unlock the movable blade (1).

If the power tool stays on stand-by during 1 minute without pressing actuating lever (3), movable blade (1) will lock.

If the power tool stays on stand-by during 10 minutes, acoustic signal will sound and the power indicator (5) goes out).

Switching off stand-by mode:

  • Push the on / off switch (4) and hold it for 2 seconds. Stand-by mode will be switched off (an acoustic signal will sound and the power indicator (5) goes out).

What is the procedure for operating the STALCO PSS20-30BL power tool?

At first, turn on the power tool in stand-by mode and unlock the movable blade (1), as shown above (see fig. 4).

Push the actuating lever (3). The movable blade (1) will perform a working stroke (movable blade (1) will go down (see fig. 5.1)).

Release the actuating lever (3). The movable blade (1) will perform a back stroke (movable blade (1) will go up (see fig. 5.2)).

If you push the actuating lever (3) and hold it for more than 3 seconds, the movable blade (1) will be locked in closed position and will not go back after the actuating lever (3) is released. This is necessary for transportation necessary for transportation.


How do you attach and remove the protective cover on the STALCO PSS20-30BL?

Before starting to work put off the protective cover (20) as shown on fig. 1.1.

After completing the work move down the movable blade (1) as described below and put on the protective cover (20) (see fig. 1.2).


How do you charge the battery for the STALCO PSS20-30BL?

Press the battery lock (8) and remove the battery (7) (see fig. 2.1).

Connect the charger (21) to the power supply.

Insert battery (7) into charger (21) (see fig. 2.2).

Disconnect the charger (21) from power supply after charging.

Remove the battery (7) from the charger (21) and mount battery (7) in the power tool (see fig. 2.3).

How can the operating mode be set on the STALCO PSS20-30BL?

You can set the opening distance of the movable blade (1). It will help you save time for each cut and reduce battery consumption.

Turn off the stand-by mode and unlock the movable blade (1) as shown above (see fig. 4).

Push and release the button 4 to choose the operating mode:

  • mode “1” – to cut branches with diameter up to 15 mm, 1 indicator (6) is lit (see fig. 8.1);
  • mode “2” – to cut branches with diameter up to 20 mm, 2 indicators (6) are lit (see fig. 8.2);
  • mode “3” – to cut branches with diameter up to 30 mm, 3 indicators (6) are lit (see fig. 8.3).

What are the design features of the brushless motor in the STALCO PSS20-30BL?

The power tool equipped with a brushless motor provides the following advantages (compared to the power tool having a brush motor):

How is the STALCO PSS20-30BL protected against overdischarge and temperature issues?

Overdischarge protection: The battery (7) is protected by the safety system against deep discharge. In case of complete discharge, the power tool is automatically switched off. Do not try to switch on the power tool when the protection system is activated, the battery (7) can be damaged.

Temperature protection: The temperature protection system enables to automatically deactivate the power tool in case of excess load or when the temperature of the battery (7) is exceeding 70°C. The system guarantees protection of the power tool from damage in case of noncompliance with the operation conditions.

With the push of the button 9 the indicators (10) show the state of charge of the battery (7) (see fig. 6-7).


How does the overload protection system on the STALCO PSS20-30BL work?

Overload protection system of the engine automatically switches off the power tool when it is operated in a manner that causes it to draw an abnormally high current. For example, if the force created by the engine when attempting to cut a thick dry and dense branch is not enough the power tool will switch off.


What should be done if the movable blade of the STALCO PSS20-30BL gets trapped in the wood?

If overload protection has been activated and the movable blade (1) has got trapped in the wood, do not try to extract it, shaking the tool from side to side. It may cause damage to elements of the power tool. Remove the battery (7) from the power tool and try to extract the movable blade (1) from the wood by carefully moving it in the plane of movement of the movable blade (1). If it is impossible, use other tools, for example cut the branch with a handsaw or carefully make a cut in the wood near the movable blade (1) with a knife.

If the movable blade gets trapped in the wood, do not try to extract it, shaking the power tool from side to side. It may cause damage to elements of the power tool.

After completing the work put the blades into closed position (as described below) and put the protective cover onto them.

The power tool shall be stored and carried only with the protective cover put onto the blades.
