The rear surround channel has a high frequency hiss present which is most noticeable with the master volume turned up to at least 50%, the rear channel level at 0dB and no signal source present.
How do I resolve the hissing noise in the rear surround channel on the SONY STR-AV970X?
If the hissing symptom occurs, perform the following steps:
1. Change resistors R342 and R343 from 330K to 220K.
2. Remove pot RV301 and replace it with a wire (short).
3. Remove the negative leads of caps C330 and C317 off the board and solder them together (off the board), then solder into them a wire from the Digital ground. Then connect the digital ground into the analog ground as shown.
4. Change C390 from 0.22µF to 10µF.
5. Change C319 from 4.7µF to 1µF.
6. Change R346 from 100K to 10K.
