What are some cooking tips for the SMEG SFA309X oven?

General advice:

• Use a fan-assisted function to achieve uniform cooking at several levels.

• It is not possible to shorten cooking times by increasing the temperature, as the food could be overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside.

Advice for cooking meat:

• Cooking times vary according to the thickness and quality of the food.

• Use a meat thermometer or press the roast with a spoon. If it is hard, it is ready.

Advice for cooking with the Grill and the Fan-assisted grill:

• Meat can be grilled in a cold or preheated oven.

• For the Fan-assisted grill function, preheat the oven before grilling.

• Place food at the center of the rack.

• For the Grill function, turn the temperature knob to the maximum value to optimize cooking.

Advice for cooking desserts and biscuits:

• Use dark metal moulds to absorb heat better.

• Check if a dessert is cooked by inserting a toothpick into its highest point; if it comes out clean, the dessert is cooked.

• If a dessert collapses, reduce the temperature by about 10°C next time and select a longer cooking time.

Advice for defrosting and proving:

• Place frozen foods in a lidless container on the first shelf.

• Avoid overlapping the food.

• To defrost meat, use the rack on the second level and a tray on the first level.

• Cover delicate parts with aluminium foil.

• For successful proving, place a container of water in the bottom of the oven.

How do I clean the SMEG SFA309X oven?

Important safety rules:

• Do not use steam jets for cleaning.

• Do not use cleaning products containing chlorine, ammonia, or bleach on steel or parts with metallic finishes.

• Do not use abrasive or corrosive detergents on glass parts (e.g. powder products, stain removers, metallic sponges).

• Do not use rough or abrasive materials or sharp metal scrapers.

Cleaning the surfaces:

Clean surfaces regularly after use, once they have cooled. Use specific products that do not contain abrasives or chlorine-based acids. Pour the product onto a damp cloth, wipe the surface, rinse, and dry with a soft cloth or microfibre cloth.

Food stains or residues:

Do not use metallic sponges or sharp scrapers. Use ordinary non-abrasive products with wooden or plastic utensils if needed. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not allow sugary foods (like jam) to set inside the oven, as they can damage the enamel lining.

Cleaning the inside of the oven:

Clean regularly after it has cooled. Take out all removable parts. Clean the oven racks with warm water and non-abrasive detergent. For easier cleaning, remove the door. After using specific products, operate the oven at maximum temperature for 15-20 minutes to burn off residues.

• Check the mains power supply.

• Check whether an omnipolar switch upstream of the appliance supply line is in the “ON” position.

Why is my SMEG SFA309X oven not heating up?

What should I do if the controls on my SMEG SFA309X oven do not respond?

Check whether the oven has been set in “child lock” mode. This mode needs to be deactivated to use the controls. You can find instructions for this in the “Secondary menu” section of the user manual.

Why are the cooking times on my SMEG SFA309X longer than expected?

Check whether the oven has been set in “low power” mode. This mode limits the power used and can extend cooking times. You can find instructions for changing this setting in the “Secondary menu” section of the user manual.

Why can’t I select a function after a pyrolysis cycle on my SMEG SFA309X?

Verify whether the door locking device has deactivated. The oven has a safety device that does not allow functions to be selected while the door lock is active. This is because the temperature inside the oven is still too high. Wait for the oven to cool down further and for the lock to disengage.

What does “ERR4” on the display of my SMEG SFA309X mean?

The “ERR4” code indicates that the door lock has not properly attached to the door. This might be because the door was accidentally opened during the door lock activation. Switch the oven off and on again, waiting a few minutes before selecting a new cleaning cycle.

Why does the fan stop when I open the door of my SMEG SFA309X during a fan-assisted function?

This is not a fault. It is a normal operation of the appliance, designed to prevent excessive heat from escaping. When the door is closed, the fan will resume and the oven will return to normal operation.
