The SMARTWARES SA68B smoke detector is designed to detect fire in its early stages. If smoke is detected, it will produce a loud alarm sound to alert you so you can react in time. This smoke detector is intended for use in residential buildings, but it is not suitable for use in recreational vehicles like caravans or mobile homes.

For optimal performance of your SMARTWARES SA68B, please follow these installation recommendations:

• Install the first smoke detector in the vicinity of the bedrooms. Ensure that it is placed so if it would detect fire, at least one exit route would still be accessible.

• It is recommended to place one alarm near each potential source of fire.

• For minimum protection, install one alarm on every floor of your house.

• Install a smoke alarm in every room where a smoker sleeps or where electrical appliances are operated, as these are potential fire sources.

• Smoke and heat will first move upwards to the ceiling; after that, the smoke and heat will travel horizontally. It is recommended to install the alarm in the middle of the ceiling.

• If ceiling mounting is not possible, install it on the wall, 50cm from any corner.

• If you install the smoke alarm on the wall, it should be 10-30cm below the ceiling.

• For a room with a length of more than 10 meters, it is recommended to install multiple alarms.

• In a sloped ceiling or A-shaped room, install the alarm 3 meters from the highest point.

To prevent false alarms and ensure proper functioning of your SMARTWARES SA68B, avoid installing it in the following locations:

• Near air conditioning, heaters, ventilators, and any other equipment that may cause drafts.

• In areas with high humidity such as bathrooms, or where the temperature can reach above 40°C or below 4°C.

• In dusty and dirty areas, as dust in the detector chamber can cause it to malfunction.

• In places where it is hard to reach, which may obstruct testing, battery replacement, and maintenance.

• Closer than 50cm to lighting equipment or other decorative objects that may obstruct smoke and heat from reaching the detector.

• Near windows or doors.

• Closer than 1.5 meters from kitchen appliances.

Follow these steps to activate your SMARTWARES SA68B:

Step 1. Before mounting the smoke detector, you must activate and test it. Remove the smoke detector from the mounting plate by twisting it counter-clockwise.

Step 2. Connect the 9V block battery (6F22). The smoke detector will give a short beep to indicate it is activated.

Step 3. Test the alarm by pressing the test button. The LED light will flash quickly and the alarm will sound a loud beep. If the alarm does not sound, the battery may be empty or there could be another problem. Refer to the troubleshooting section for solutions.

The red LED under the test button will flash approximately every 40 seconds. This indicates that the smoke detector is active and working correctly.

To ensure your SMARTWARES SA68B is functioning correctly, follow these steps:

Step 1. Press and hold the test button for at least 3 seconds. The LED light will flash and the alarm will sound.

Step 2. Release the test button. The alarm will stop sounding.

It is recommended to test the smoke detector every month to ensure it is working properly.

If the SMARTWARES SA68B is giving a false alarm, for example, due to steam from cooking, you can use the hush mode to temporarily silence it:

Step 1. Press the test button to switch the smoke detector to hush mode. The alarm will pause, and the LED light will flash every 8 seconds to indicate it is in hush mode.

Step 2. The hush mode will last for approximately 10 minutes. After this period, the smoke detector will reset to its normal sensitivity.

If the cause of the alarm is still present, the alarm will sound again.

To keep your SMARTWARES SA68B smoke detector in good working condition, it is important to keep it clean. Clean the smoke detector at least once a month. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush to gently clean the sides and cover of the smoke detector. Never use water, cleaners, or solvents on the smoke detector, as they may damage the unit.

When the battery is running low, the smoke detector will indicate this with a beeping sound and a flashing LED. This low battery indicator will sound for approximately 30 days. It is recommended to replace the battery immediately after this warning starts to ensure timely detection of fire. Use a 9V block battery, type 6F22.

• Warning: To prevent injury, this apparatus must be properly installed in accordance with the installation instructions.

• Warning: Batteries shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.

• The lifespan of the battery shortens considerably when used in cold conditions. Protect the environment and dispose of empty batteries correctly.

• Do not paint the smoke detector.

• A smoke detector is part of your fire protection. Fire protection should also include fire extinguishers, emergency ladders, ropes and choices in renovation for building materials.

• Ensure that there is an evacuation plan. Teach children about it. Ensure that doors and windows can be opened without a key.

• In case of doubt about the cause of the alarm, assume that the alarm is caused by fire and evacuate the premises immediately.

• Except for the mounting, do not install the smoke detector yourself. Installation of the electrical wiring has to be done by a professional electrician and has to be compliant with the local regulations for electrical installations.

• The appliance should be installed in accordance with national wiring regulations.
