Warnings:

• Television sets with a 40″ screen size or more must be lifted and carried by at least 2 people.

• This television does not contain any parts serviceable by the user. In case of a fault, contact the manufacturer or authorized service department. Exposing internal parts may endanger your life.

• To prevent the spread of fire, keep candles or other open flames away from this product at all times.

Reducing Risk of Damage:

• Do not expose the TV to dust, rain, or moisture. Never expose it to dripping or splashing, and do not place objects filled with liquids on or near it.

• Do not connect external devices like DVD players or game consoles while the TV is switched on. Disconnect both the TV and the device from the mains before connecting.

• Do not place the television in a confined space. Ensure ventilation openings at the rear are not obstructed.

• When wall-mounting, ensure the TV is at least 5cm from the wall for ventilation.

• Ensure ventilation openings are not covered with items like newspapers, tablecloths, or curtains.

• Dispose of the television and its components, including batteries, in an environmentally friendly manner. If in doubt, contact your local authority for recycling details.

• This TV should be used in moderate climates only.

Placement Safety:

WARNING: Never place a television set on an unstable location. A television set may fall, causing serious personal injury or death. Many injuries, particularly to children, can be avoided by taking simple precautions such as:

• Using cabinets or stands recommended by the manufacturer.

• Only using furniture that can safely support the television.

• Ensuring the television is not overhanging the edge of the supporting furniture.

• Not placing the television on tall furniture (like cupboards or bookcases) without anchoring both the furniture and the television to a suitable support.

• Not placing the television on cloth or other materials between the TV and supporting furniture.

• Educating children about the dangers of climbing on furniture to reach the TV or its controls.

General Safety:

• The appliance is fitted with a fused 3-pin mains plug. If the fuse needs replacement, use one of the same amperage approved with the BSI mark.

• Never use the television if it is damaged.

• Always place the television on a flat, level surface away from strong vibrations.

• The ideal viewing distance is approximately five times the length of the diagonal screen measurement.

• Ensure the TV is not placed on top of the power cable.

• Keep devices that may cause magnetic or radio interference (mobile phones, speakers) away from the TV. If interference occurs, move the device away.

• The mains plug, located on the underside/rear of the TV, should always be easily accessible to disconnect the apparatus from the mains.

WARNING: Excessive noise when using earphones and headphones can cause loss of hearing.

• To clean your TV, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. If the surfaces are extremely dirty, use a soft cloth dipped in a soap and water solution or a weak detergent solution.

• Never use alcohol, paint thinner, or benzene to clean the unit.

• Before using a chemically treated cloth, read the instructions that came with the cloth carefully.

CAUTION: If water or other liquid enters the television through the display panel surface, a malfunction may occur.

The extended use of fixed image program material can cause a permanent “shadow image” on the LCD/LED panel, also known as “screen burn”. This appears in the background during normal viewing. To limit this type of irreversible deterioration, follow these steps:

1. Reduce the brightness/contrast setting to a minimum suitable viewing level.

2. Do not display a fixed image for extended periods.

3. Turn the power off when not in use.

Examples of images that are more likely to cause “screen burn” include:

• TV channel logos: Especially bright and stationary ones like shopping channel logos.

• Time displays.

• Teletext: Do not view a stationary page for a long period.

• TV/DVD menus: e.g., listings of DVD disc content.

• Pause mode: Do not leave the TV in pause mode for long periods.

Important: Once ‘shadow image/screen burn’ occurs, it will never disappear and is not repairable under warranty.

Included with your SHARP LC-40CFF5221K are the following accessories:

• 1 x Mini composite / AV cable

• 1 x Stand installation pack containing:

– 4 x screws

– 1 x L (left) stand foot

– 1 x R (right) stand foot

You will need a cross-head screwdriver to complete the stand installation.

Attaching the stand:

1. Place the SHARP LC-40CFF5221K TV on a flat, clean surface with the panel facing downwards to avoid damage.

2. Fix the stand feet, which are marked L (left) and R (right), to the corresponding slots on the underside of the TV. When installed correctly, the stand feet will be angled away from each other at the front of the TV.

3. Secure the stand feet to the underside of the TV using the 4 screws provided.

Detaching the stand:

To detach the stand, remove the four screws from the underside of the TV, and then remove the stand feet.

Securing with anti-tip straps:

For maximum security, especially in homes with children, anti-tip straps should be fitted to ensure your TV stays safely upright. Straps are designed to be attached to the rear of the TV and then tethered to a wall or furniture.

A) Using one or both of the top wall-mounting holes, fasten one end of the fastening cord/s to the TV. The screws are already supplied in the wall mounting holes.

B) Secure the other end of the fastening cord/s to your wall. You will need screws/fixings suitable for your wall type, which are available separately.

Note: Please ensure that children do not climb on the TV set.

Wall Mounting:

IMPORTANT: Before drilling any holes, ensure you are not drilling where there could be any electrical wires, water, or gas pipes.

1. Remove the four screws supplied in the wall mounting holes on the rear of the TV.

2. The wall mount can now be easily attached to the mounting holes.

For VESA wall mounting information, please refer to the Technical Specification section.

For optimum viewing, if wall mounting the TV higher than eye level, the TV should be tilted downwards so that the screen is ‘face on’.

Important: If wall mounting this TV, only use the screws already provided in the wall mounting holes. Using other screws which are longer could cause irreparable damage to internal parts.

Here are the key functions of the remote control for your SHARP LC-40CFF5221K:

• STANDBY: Switch the TV on from standby or vice versa.

• MUTE: Mute the sound or vice versa.

• NUMBER BUTTONS (0-9): Select a TV channel directly.

• TV GUIDE: Opens the 7-day TV guide (in digital TV mode).

• ↩: Return to the previously viewed channel.

• VOL (+/-): Increase/decrease the sound level.

• PICTURE: Scroll through picture mode options.

• SOUND: Scroll through sound mode options.

• SOURCE: Display the input/source menu.

• CH (+/-): Increase/decrease the channel being watched.

• MENU: Display the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu.

• EXIT: Exit all menus.

• ARROW BUTTONS (▲/▼/◄/►) and OK: Navigate on-screen menus and adjust settings.

• INFO: Press once for now/next channel information. Press twice for information about the current programme.

• FAV: Display the favourites menu.

• SLEEP: Press repeatedly to cycle through sleep options.

• TEXT: Enter/exit Teletext.

• SUBTITLE: Switch on/off subtitles at the bottom of the screen.

• ASPECT: Switch between different picture formats.

• TV: Switch to digital source.

• MEDIA: Access the USB media function.

• RADIO: Switch to radio whilst in digital TV source.

• RECORD (●): Access the USB record function.

• PVR/MEDIA Control Buttons:

– I◄◄: Restart the current chapter.

– ►►I: Advance to the next chapter.

– ■: Stop playback/Eject Disc.

– ◄◄: Play in fast rewind mode.

– ►►: Play in fast forward mode.

– ►II: Play/pause.

• REC LIST: Opens the list of previously recorded content.

• GOTO: Go to a specific chapter in a recording.

• REPEAT: Repeat playback.

The buttons on the TV allow for basic control. Their shape may vary by model.

TV Button Functions:

• VOL+: Volume up and menu right

• VOL-: Volume down and menu left

• CH+: Programme/channel up and menu up

• CH-: Programme/channel down and menu down

• MENU: Displays menu/OSD

• SOURCE: Displays the ‘Input Source’ menu

• STANDBY: Standby power On/Off

Choosing Input/Source:

Use the source menu to switch between different input connections.

A) Using the remote control:

1. Press [SOURCE]. The source menu will appear.

2. Press the ▼ or ▲ buttons to select the input you require.

3. Press [OK].

B) Using the buttons on the television:

1. Press the [SOURCE] button.

2. Scroll up/down using the CH+ / CH- buttons to the input/source you require.

3. Press Vol+ to change the input/source to the one selected.

The SHARP LC-40CFF5221K has various ports to connect external devices.

Connecting a device with Composite AV/Video output:

Use the supplied Mini composite / AV cable to connect the yellow (video), red (right audio), and white (left audio) outputs of your device to the Mini AV IN port on the TV. Set the TV source to ‘Composite/AV’.

Connecting a device with SCART output:

Connect a SCART cable from your device to the SCART port on the TV. Set the TV source to ‘SCART’.

Connecting a device with HDMI output:

Connect an HDMI cable from your device to one of the HDMI ports (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.) on the TV. This will carry both video and audio. Set the TV source to the corresponding HDMI port.

Connecting a device with Component/YPbPr output:

Use the supplied Mini component / YPbPr cable to connect the green (Y), blue (Pb), and red (Pr) video outputs to the Mini YPbPr port. For sound, you will also need to connect the red and white audio phono cables to the Mini AV IN port. Set the TV source to ‘Component/YPbPr’.

Connecting an external audio device (Amplifier, Sound Bar, etc.):

• Option 1 (Analogue): Connect a 3.5mm audio cable from the TV’s EARPHONE output to your audio device’s input. This will disable the TV’s internal speakers.

• Option 2 (Digital): Connect a digital optical audio cable from the TV’s OPTICAL (Digital audio out) port to your audio device’s optical input.

Connecting an Ethernet/Network cable:

The LAN/Ethernet port is used for Freeview HD services. Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the ETHERNET/LAN port on the TV.

To access the Picture Menu, press the [MENU] button on the remote, navigate to PICTURE, and press [OK]. Use the scroll buttons (▲/▼/◄/►) to make changes and [OK] to confirm. Press [EXIT] to leave the menu.

Picture Mode: Choose from the following presets:

• Dynamic: Recommended for fast-moving pictures.

• Standard: Standard settings.

• Mild: Lighter in colour and less bright.

• Personal: Lets you manually alter all settings.

• Economy: Power saving mode that reduces energy use. The TV will switch to Standby after 3-5 hours if no buttons are pressed in this mode.

Personal Mode Adjustments:

• Contrast: Switch the balance between black and white.

• Brightness: Increase or decrease the picture’s brightness.

• Colour: Increase the colour from black and white.

• Tint: Increase or decrease the level of tint (only for NTSC input signals).

• Sharpness: Increase or decrease the picture’s sharpness.

Other Picture Settings:

• Colour Temperature: Choose between Normal (default), Warm (increases red), and Cold (increases blue).

• Aspect Ratio: Choose the best picture format. Options include Auto, 4:3, 16:9, Full Screen, and Zoom1/Zoom2.

• Noise Reduction: Switch noise reduction ON or OFF.

• MPEG Noise Reduction: Reduce interference caused by MPEG compression.

• Active Contrast: Automatically optimizes the backlight and contrast based on the screen’s brightness.

To access the Sound Menu, press [MENU], navigate to SOUND, and press [OK]. Use the arrow buttons to make changes and [OK] to confirm. Press [EXIT] to leave.

Sound Mode: Choose from the following presets:

• Standard: Default settings.

• Music: Emphasises music over voices.

• Movie: Provides live and full sound for movies.

• Sports: Emphasises sound for sports.

• Personal: Selects your personal sound settings.

Personal Mode Adjustments:

• Treble: Adjust treble levels.

• Bass: Adjust bass levels.

• Balance: Switch the sound between the left and right speakers.

Other Sound Settings:

• Auto Volume Level (AVL): When ‘on’, the volume attempts to stay at a constant level, regardless of programmes or advertisements.

• DTS TruSurround: Choose between Off and On. When On, it creates an immersive surround sound experience from the two TV speakers.

• Digital Output: This is for the digital optical audio output. Options:

– Off: Turn off Digital Output.

– Auto: Selects the best settings automatically.

– PCM: Select this if connecting to a Stereo Hi-fi via an optical cable.

• Audio Description: Switch Audio Description ON or OFF. This service provides a description of on-screen action for visually impaired users on certain programmes.

• AD Volume: Increase or decrease the Audio Description volume level.

Access the Channel Menu by pressing [MENU], navigating to CHANNEL, and pressing [OK].

• Auto Tuning: Retunes the television for all digital channels, digital radio stations, and analogue devices.

• Analogue Manual Tuning: Manually tune your analogue signal.

• Freeview/Saorview Manual Tuning: Manually tune your digital signal.

• Channel Edit: Allows you to delete, move, skip, and select favourite channels. Note that Freeview HD channels found during tuning are placed in positions above 100 (e.g., 101 for BBC1 HD).

• Signal Information: View signal frequency, quality, and strength.

• CI Information: For Pay-Per-View services that require a “smartcard” and CAM, which can be inserted into the COMMON INTERFACE PORT (CI Card In).

• Recorded List: Shows a list of recorded TV programmes.

• Schedule List: Lists your programme reminders.

• OAD (Software Update): Switch on/off over-air-download software updates.

The Settings menu contains several sub-menus for configuring your TV.

Set Up Menu:

• Language: Change the menu language.

• Audio/Subtitle Language 1 & 2: Select your preferred primary and secondary audio and subtitle languages.

• Hearing Impaired: Turn on subtitles that describe what is happening in the programme.

• Blue Screen: Change the background from clear to blue when there is no input signal.

• LED Status: Switch the LED power indicator light ON or OFF.

• First Time Installation: Access the installation menu to retune the TV.

• Reset TV: Reset menus to factory settings and clear all channels.

• Store Mode: Switch ON/OFF the shop demonstration mode.

Time Menu:

• Auto Sync: When ON, the TV automatically sets the time.

• Time: Manually set the time (if Auto Sync is OFF).

• Off Time / On Time: Set a specific time for the TV to turn off or on.

• Sleep Timer: Set the TV to automatically switch off after a set time (10 to 240 mins).

• OSD Timer: Adjust how long the On Screen Menu stays on screen (5 to 60 secs).

• Auto standby: Set the TV to automatically go to standby after 3, 4, or 5 hours of inactivity.

• Time Zone: Change your current time zone.

Lock Menu:

The default password is 0000.

• System/Hotel Lock: Lock or unlock the menu.

• Change Password: Change the 4-digit password.

• Channel Lock: Lock certain channels manually.

• Parental Guidance: Block content based on age rating.

• TV Button Lock: Lock the buttons on the side of the TV.

• Default/Source/Channel/Max Volume Lock: Set default startup settings and lock them.

Network Menu:

This is only intended for Pay TV services from your broadcaster, not general internet access.

• IP Config: Choose Auto (recommended) or Manual for LAN settings.

• Network Info: View network settings.

• Network Test: Test the network connection.

PVR File System:

• Select disk: Select USB port and disk partition for recording.

• TimeShift Size: Set the size of the shift buffer.

• Format Start: Format a connected USB device to FAT32 (WARNING: ALL DATA WILL BE DELETED).

• Speed check: Test the write speed of a connected USB device.

Other Settings:

• HDMI CEC: Allows compatible HDMI devices to control each other.

• Software Update (USB / NET): Update the TV software using a USB stick or via an internet connection.

• Version Info: View the current software version information.

7 Day TV Guide:

The TV Guide is available in Saorview/Freeview mode and provides information about forthcoming programmes.

1. Press [TV GUIDE] on the remote control to display the guide.

2. Navigate through the menu using the ▲/▼/◄/► buttons.

You can now:

• Record a programme by pressing RED (a USB device must be connected).

• Set a reminder by pressing GREEN.

• View a previous day’s schedule by pressing YELLOW.

• View the next day’s schedule by pressing BLUE.

3. Press [EXIT] to exit the TV Guide.

Channel List:

To view the channel list, ensure the TV is set to a digital or analogue source with no menus displayed.

1. Press [OK] on the remote to open the channel list menu.

2. Press the LEFT / RIGHT arrow buttons to filter channel types (Digital TV, Radio, All).

3. Scroll through the list using the ▲/▼ buttons, then press [OK] to view the currently highlighted channel.

4. Press [EXIT] to exit the channel list.

The USB record facility is available in Freeview/Saorview mode when used with a compatible high-speed USB memory stick or USB hard drive. A high-speed stick is necessary as the TV reads from and writes to it simultaneously.

Minimum specification for a USB Memory Stick:

• Read Speed: 80 Mb/s (Megabit Per Second)

• Write Speed: 40 Mb/s (Megabit Per Second)

Pause Live TV (Time Shift):

1. Press the play/pause (►II) button to pause live TV. The live content will be recorded.

2. Press play/pause (►II) again to resume watching.

3. Use the fast forward (►►) and fast rewind (◄◄) buttons to navigate within the recorded buffer.

Tip: When you switch the TV to standby or change the channel, the time shift memory is wiped. To restart, you must press the play/pause button again.

One Button Record:

To record the current channel you are watching at any time, press the red RECORD (●) button on the remote control.

Tip: This television has one TV tuner, so it can only record the channel you are currently watching or record one channel while the TV is in standby mode.

Note: The USB record function is only available in Freeview/Saorview TV mode. Due to copyright laws, it is not possible to record to/from any other input/output source.

The USB mode allows playback of various content types saved on a USB Memory Stick.

1. Switch to the USB source. A menu screen will appear, dividing content into Photo, Music, Movie, and Text based on file type.

2. Use the ▲/▼/◄/► scroll buttons to navigate through the menus. Press [OK] to confirm the item you wish to play/view.

3. Select the drive you require. If your drive only has one partition, you will only see one item.

4. Once you access an item, you can control playback using the remote control buttons (play/pause, stop, etc.) or by pressing [INFO] to access an on-screen playback menu. Navigate this on-screen menu with the arrow buttons and [OK].

Tip: If you experience a playback issue (e.g., the picture plays but there is no sound), ensure the files are in a compatible format. Refer to the technical specification page for a list of compatible file types.

Note: USB extension cables are not recommended as they can cause a reduction in picture/audio quality and stoppages during playback.

Some options are only available in certain sources, e.g., HDMI. They are unavailable in other sources where they have no effect.

Yes. In the ‘Time’ menu settings, scroll down to ‘Auto standby’ and select OFF.

1. Check that you are in an area that can receive Freeview/Saorview signal.

2. Check you are using an aerial that can receive a good digital signal. In most cases, you will need an outdoor digital high-gain/wideband aerial. In areas with excellent digital coverage, a loft-type aerial may suffice, but you will likely need a booster between the TV and the aerial wall socket. A portable/indoor type aerial is often not sufficient for a good digital signal.

If the TV does not save channels when powered off, the channel database may be corrupt. Please follow these steps to resolve the issue:

1. Turn off the TV.

2. Remove the RF/Aerial cable from the rear of the TV and then turn the TV back on.

3. Using the remote control, press Menu followed by 8-8-8-8 to enter the initial setup/first time installation menu.

4. Press OK to let the TV run the full tuning process without the aerial connected.

5. Once completed, turn off the TV, reconnect the RF/Aerial cable, then turn the TV back on.

6. Repeat steps 3 & 4 with the aerial connected.

In addition to connecting via SCART, you must also connect the aerial cable from the wall socket to your VCR/DVD Recorder and then another aerial cable from the VCR/DVD Recorder to the TV. This provides the signal to the recorder.

1. Ensure the TV’s source is set to the correct HDMI input.

2. Check the output settings on your Playstation/Xbox are as per the console’s instruction manual.

There is a master password of 4711. You can use this to gain access to the TV menu and reset the normal password.

Freeview HD channels found during tuning will be placed in channel positions above 100. For example, 101 (BBC1 HD), 102 (BBC2 HD), etc.

Ensure the USB Memory Key is formatted to the FAT32 file system.

If you wish to use a portable hard drive larger than 32GB, it must be formatted to the FAT32 file system. Windows XP/Vista computers are only capable of formatting drives up to 32GB in FAT32, so you may need a separate software programme/utility to format larger hard drives.

Check that the USB memory stick meets the minimum speed requirements. Standard definition channels require a read speed of 20 MB/s and a write speed of 6 MB/s. HD channels require a read speed of 80 MB/s and a write speed of 40 MB/s. USB 3.0 sticks should be used where possible.

During the first-time installation screen, press and hold the GREEN and YELLOW buttons on the remote control for a few seconds. The power light on the TV will blink 5 times to confirm the TV and remote control are paired.

1. Switch the TV on using the standby button on the TV set itself (not the remote control).

2. Once switched on, press the standby button on the TV set once. This will prompt the ‘pairing menu’ to appear.

3. Scroll through and highlight ‘Pair your remote’ by pressing the CH+/CH- button on the TV (this acts as scroll up/down).

4. Press the TV set’s standby button (this acts as OK in the menu) to confirm your selection.

5. With the remote control, press and hold the GREEN and YELLOW buttons for a few seconds. The power light will blink 5 times to confirm the TV and remote control are paired.
