To remove the battery cover on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR, follow these steps:

4. Insert the USB cable into the device’s Charger/Accessory jack.

5. Plug the charging head into a standard AC power outlet. The device will turn on with the screen locked and indicate its charge state and percentage.

6. When charging is finished, first unplug the charger’s power plug from the AC wall outlet, then disconnect the charger’s connector from the phone.

Your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR does not support the use of non-approved batteries. Using one may cause damage to your phone. If you use a non-supported battery, you will hear a series of beeps and see a warning message: “UNABLE TO CHARGE NON-SUPPORTED BATTERY. SEE USER MANUAL”.

If you receive this warning, battery charging has been disabled. Samsung charging accessories will only charge Samsung-approved batteries. When using a non-supported battery, the phone can only be used for the duration of the life of that battery and cannot be recharged.

To turn your phone on:

Press and hold the Power/Lock Key for three seconds. While powering on, the phone connects with the network, then displays the Locked screen.

To turn your phone off:

1. Press and hold the Power/Lock Key for two seconds.

2. At the prompt, tap Power off.

Standard Unlock:

1. If needed, press the Home key to wake the screen.

Your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR uses a Google account to utilize its Android features. When you turn on your phone for the first time, you should set up a connection with an existing Google account or create a new one.

1. Press the Home key, then touch Applications → Gmail.

2. The Add a Google Account screen displays. Tap Next to continue.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to create a Google Account, or to sign in if you already have one.

Front View:

1. Earpiece: Listen to callers.

2. Camera Lens: Used when taking photos or recording videos.

3. Menu Key: Press to display options for the current screen.

4. Home Key: Press to display the Home screen. Press and hold to launch Task Manager.

5. Microphone: Passes your voice to other parties in a call.

6. Back Key: Press to return to the previous screen or option.

7. Search Key: Press to launch Search.

8. Light and Proximity Sensors: Adjusts screen brightness and darkens the screen during calls to save battery.

Side Views:

1. 3.5mm Headset Jack: Allows you to plug in headphones.

2. Accessory Hook: Attach optional accessories, such as a lanyard.

3. Volume Key: Adjusts Master Volume, call volume, or mutes an incoming call ringtone.

4. USB Power/Accessory Port: Plug in a USB cable for charging or syncing.

5. HDMI Port: Connect your phone to a High Definition monitor or television.

You can navigate your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR using the command keys and the touch screen.

Command Keys:

Clearing Notifications:

The buttons at the top of the panel also allow you to quickly enable or disable Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Mobile Data.

Your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR comes with 7 Home screen panels that you can customize.

Adding and Removing Panels:

1. Navigate to a Home screen panel, then press the Menu key.

2. Touch “Edit page”. Thumbnail images of the Home screen panels will appear.

3. To remove a panel, touch, hold, and drag the panel image to the “Remove” icon.

4. To add a panel, touch the plus icon.

5. To set a panel as the main Home panel, touch “Set home” on the preferred panel, or drag it to the center position.

Adding Items to a Panel:

1. Navigate to the desired Home screen panel.

2. Touch and hold on the screen to display the “Add to Home screen” menu.

3. From here, you can add Widgets, Shortcuts, or Folders by touching the respective option and making a selection.

Changing the Wallpaper:

1. Navigate to the desired Home screen panel.

2. Touch and hold on the screen and select “Wallpapers”, or press Menu and select “Wallpaper”.

3. Choose a source for images: Gallery, Live wallpapers, or Wallpaper gallery.

Your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR offers multiple ways to make calls:

Using the Phone Keypad:

1. Navigate to a Home screen and touch the Phone icon.

2. Enter a telephone number on the Keypad screen.

3. Touch the green call button to place the call.

Using Speed Dials:

1. From the Phone keypad, touch the digits of the speed dial number, holding the last digit until the number dials.

From Contacts:

1. Navigate to a Home screen and touch Contacts.

2. Find the contact and touch it to open the entry.

3. Touch the green call button to dial the default number.

From Call Log:

1. Navigate to a Home screen and touch the Phone icon, then touch the Call log tab.

2. To call a number, touch and sweep the Call Log entry to the right.

When you receive an incoming call on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR, you have several options:

• Answer the call: On the Incoming call screen, touch and drag the green phone icon outside of the large circle.

• Silence the ringer: Press the Volume key up or down. The phone’s ringer will stop, and after a number of rings, the call will be forwarded to voicemail.

• Reject the call (send to voicemail): On the Incoming call screen, touch and drag the red phone icon outside of the large circle. Voicemail will answer the call.

• Reject the call with a message: On the Incoming call screen, touch and drag the “Reject call with a message” tab upward. You can then choose a pre-written message or create a new one to send to the caller.

While you are on a call with your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR, you can use these features:

• Add call: Display the Phone Dialer to set up a multi-party call.

• Dialpad: Display a dialpad to enter numbers.

• End call: End the phone call.

• Bluetooth: Switch the call’s audio to a connected Bluetooth headset.

• Mute: Mute or unmute your voice on the call.

• Speaker: Turn the speakerphone on or off.

To manage your call history on the SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR:

1. Navigate to a Home screen panel, then touch Phone → Call log.

Filtering Call Log records:

• While viewing the Call log, press the Menu key, then touch “View by”.

• Select a filter type from All calls, Missed calls, Dialed calls, or Received calls.

Deleting Call Log records:

• While viewing the Call log, press the Menu key, then touch “Delete”.

• Touch call records to mark them for deletion, or touch “Select all”.

• Touch “Delete” to delete the marked records.

Viewing call durations:

• While viewing the Call log, press the Menu key, then touch “Call duration” to view the length of various calls.

Your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR offers three on-screen QWERTY keyboards: Samsung Keypad (default), Android Keyboard, and Swype. To change the keyboard type:

1. Touch and hold on a text input field. The “Edit text” pop-up appears.

2. Select “Input method”. The “Select input method” pop-up appears.

3. Select a keyboard type: Android keyboard, Samsung keypad, or Swype.

The Swype keyboard offers a new way to enter text on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR. Instead of touching each key, use your finger to trace over each letter of a word. For each word, place your finger on the first letter and glide to the subsequent letters, lifting your finger on the last letter.

Tips for using Swype:

• Spacing is automatic: When you finish a word, just lift your finger and start the next word.

• Double letters: Just “scribble” on the key.

• Capitalization: To capitalize a word that isn’t at the beginning of a sentence, glide above the keyboard before gliding over the next letter.

• Punctuation: Tap and hold a key to view a punctuation menu and make a selection.

• Error correction: If you make a mistake, double-tap on the word you want to change.

• Symbols and Numbers: Touch and hold on a key to enter the symbol or number at the top of the key, or use the SYM key to switch to symbol mode.

To create a new contact on your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR:

1. Press the Home key, then touch Contacts.

2. Touch the create contact icon (person with a plus sign).

3. Select a storage location: Phone, Google, or other account.

4. Touch the First name and Last name fields to enter a name.

5. Touch Phone number to enter a phone number and select a label (e.g., Mobile, Home, Work).

7. Enter additional information as needed, such as Groups, Ringtone, Postal address, and more.

8. Tap Save to complete and store the new entry.

You can assign contacts to Groups to make searching for them faster or to quickly message group members.

Creating a New Group:

1. Press Home, then touch Contacts → Groups.

2. Press Menu, then touch Create.

3. Touch the Group name field to enter a name.

4. Touch Ringtone to choose a specific ringtone for this group.

5. Touch Save to save the new group.

Adding Contacts to a Group:

1. Press Home, then touch Contacts → Groups.

2. Touch a Group to display it, then touch the add member icon.

3. Touch contact(s) to mark them for addition, or touch Select all. A check mark will appear.

4. Touch Add to add the selected contact(s).

Removing Contacts from a Group:

1. Press Home, then touch Contacts → Groups.

2. Touch a Group to display its members.

3. Press Menu, then touch Remove member.

4. Touch contact(s) to mark them for removal, or touch Select all.

5. Touch Delete to remove the selected contact(s).

Speed Dials are 1-, 2-, or 3-digit shortcuts (1 to 100) that you assign to contacts for quick calling.

1. Press Home, then touch Contacts.

2. Press Menu, then touch More → Speed dial. A list of speed dial numbers appears.

3. Touch a speed dial number, then touch a Contact to assign them to that number.

Note: Speed Dial 1 is reserved for Voicemail and cannot be changed.

To create and send a message:

1. Navigate to a Home screen panel, then touch Messaging → New message.

2. Touch the “To” field to enter recipients from your Recent calls, Contacts, or Groups.

3. Touch the “Type to compose” field and write your message.

4. To add an attachment and convert the message to a multimedia message (MMS), press the Menu key while composing and select “Attach”. You can add Pictures, Videos, Audio, and more.

5. Review your message and tap Send.

Your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR has a full HTML browser to access the internet.

Accessing the Browser:

• Navigate to a Home screen panel, then touch Applications → Browser.

Navigating Pages:

• Zoom In/Out: To zoom in, place your thumb and index finger together on the screen and drag them apart. To zoom out, do the opposite.

• Scrolling: Touch and drag your finger on the screen to navigate pages.

• Selecting Links: Touch a hyperlink to select it. Touch and hold a hyperlink to see options like Open, Open in new window, Save link, and Share link.

Using Browser Windows:

• You can have up to eight windows open at once. To open a new window, press Menu → New window. To switch between windows, press Menu → Windows.

To take a picture with your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR’s built-in camera:

1. From the Home screen, touch Applications → Camera.

2. Using the display as a viewfinder, compose your picture by aiming the lens at the subject. You can touch the screen to focus on a specific area.

3. To take the picture, touch the “Take” button (camera icon).

4. After taking a picture, touch the Image Viewer thumbnail to view the picture. While viewing, you can use options to zoom, delete, share, or set the picture as a contact icon or wallpaper.

To record a video with your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR:

1. From the Home screen, touch Applications → Camera.

2. Touch the Mode button to switch from Camera to Camcorder mode. The icon will change to a video camera.

3. Using the display as a viewfinder, compose your shot by aiming the lens at the subject.

4. To start recording, touch the Record button (red dot).

5. To stop recording, touch the Stop button.

6. After recording, touch the Image Viewer to view the video. You can then share, play, or delete the video.

To connect to a Wi-Fi network:

1. From the Notifications bar, sweep your finger downward to display the Notification Panel.

2. Touch the Wi-Fi icon to turn Wi-Fi on. Your phone will automatically scan for available networks.

3. When the scan is complete, a list of detected hotspots appears.

4. Touch a Wi-Fi hotspot to connect.

• If the hotspot is open, you will be automatically connected.

• If the network is secured, enter the password at the prompt to connect.

You can use your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR to share its network connection with other devices.

1. From the Home screen, touch Applications → Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot.

2. Touch “Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot” to turn the service on. Read the Disclaimer and touch “Accept” to proceed.

3. Read the information about battery usage, then touch “Turn on Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot” to proceed.

4. Other devices can now find your phone’s network (named SCH-R930 by default) and connect using the provided password (your phone number by default).

Important: Using the Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot feature requires a data connection, consumes battery power, and may incur additional charges. Contact your service provider for more information.

To pair your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR with another Bluetooth device:

1. From the Home screen, press Menu, then touch Settings → Wireless & networks → Bluetooth settings.

2. Touch Bluetooth to turn on Bluetooth.

3. Activate the target device’s discoverable mode.

4. On your phone, touch “Scan devices”.

5. From the list of scanned devices, touch the target device you want to pair with.

6. At the prompt, enter or confirm the passkey for the target device and touch Accept. Your phone is now paired and ready to transfer information.

A factory data reset will return your SAMSUNG GALAXY S AVIATOR to its factory defaults. This action erases all data from your phone, including your Google account, system and application data, and downloaded applications. It will not erase current system software or files stored on an optional memory card.

To perform the reset, go to the Settings menu, touch Privacy → Factory data reset, then follow the prompts to perform the reset.
