When using the SALTON CJ-5, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including:

1. Read all instructions.

2. To protect against electrical hazards, do not immerse cord, plugs, or the appliance in water or other liquid.

3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.

4. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning.

5. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return appliance to Salton for examination, repair or adjustment.

6. The use of accessories or attachments not recommended by Salton may cause hazards.

7. Do not use outdoors.

8. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.

9. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.

10. This appliance is for Household Use Only. Do not use appliance for other than its intended use.

11. Do not leave unit unattended while in use.

Yes, the SALTON CJ-5 has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the plug in any way.

The parts of the SALTON CJ-5 include:

Before first use, disassemble the unit following the Care and Cleaning instructions. Wash the Cover, Reamer, Upper Strainer, Lower Strainer, and Pitcher in warm soapy water. Wipe the Base with a damp cloth. NEVER IMMERSE THE BASE IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.

To use the SALTON CJ-5:

1. Plug the Citrus Juicer into a 120 V outlet.

2. Roll fruit between the palm of your hand and the counter top to break down fibers. Cut fruit in half crosswise. NOTE: Fruit at room temperature will yield more juice.

3. Slide the Pulp Selector to the desired position, large dot for more pulp, smaller dots for less pulp.

4. Press the cut side of the fruit down on the Reamer. The Reamer will begin to turn. Altering the pressure on the reamer may cause the Reamer to automatically change direction. This is a normal operating feature. Move the fruit from side to side to get the maximum amount of juice. NOTE: The Reamer is designed for every kind of citrus fruit.

5. If pulp begins to build up in the strainer, remove the Reamer and Strainer and remove pulp. Replace the Strainer and Reamer and continue juicing. NOTE: Do not operate for longer than 6 minutes without interruption.

6. When finished juicing, unplug unit from outlet, remove Reamer and Strainer. Remove Pitcher by holding the Base and turning counterclockwise. Pour juice into glasses.

Slide the Pulp Selector to the desired position: select the large dot for more pulp or the smaller dots for less pulp.

Altering the pressure on the reamer may cause the Reamer to automatically change direction. This is a normal operating feature.

Do not operate the SALTON CJ-5 for longer than 6 minutes without interruption.

1. Unplug from outlet.

2. The Cover, Reamer, Strainer Assembly and Pitcher can be washed in warm soapy water or in the top rack of the dishwasher.

3. Wipe Base with a damp cloth.

4. DO NOT IMMERSE THE BASE IN WATER OR ANY OTHER LIQUID.

To separate the Upper and Lower Strainer, push on the Pulp Selector button and grasp tab on Lower Strainer and gently pull apart. To re-assemble, line up the inner circles of both the Upper and Lower Strainer making sure that the Pulp Selector button in the Lower Strainer is in line with the slot for the Pulp Selector in the Upper Strainer. Snap parts together.

To remove the Pitcher, hold the Base and turn the Pitcher counterclockwise.

1. Position the Pitcher so that the center hole fits over the shaft of the Base. Turn clockwise until it clicks into position.

2. Place the Strainer Assembly on the Base so that the Pulp Selector is positioned over the handle on the Pitcher.

3. Position the Reamer on the Strainer so that the shaft from the Base fits into the center hole in the bottom of the Reamer.

4. Place cover on top of unit.

A short supply cord is provided to reduce hazards. Extension cords may be used if care is exercised in their use. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance. If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be of the grounding-type 3-wire cord. The extension cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the counter top or table top, where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
