When making connections to your ROTEL RB-1592, be sure to:

• Turn off all the components in the system before hooking up any components, including loudspeakers.

• Turn off all components in the system before changing any of the connections to the system.

It is also recommended that you turn the volume control of the amplifier all the way down before the amplifier is turned on or off.

Place the ROTEL RB-1592 on a solid, level surface away from sunlight, heat, moisture, or vibration. You must allow a minimum of 10 cm or 4 inches of unobstructed clearance around the unit for proper ventilation.

Do not place the unit on a bed, sofa, rug, or similar surface that could block the ventilation openings. If the unit is placed in a bookcase or cabinet, there must be ventilation of the cabinet to allow proper cooling.

Keep the component away from radiators, heat registers, stoves, or any other appliance that produces heat. Do not stack other components or objects on top of the ROTEL RB-1592.

Clean the enclosure of the ROTEL RB-1592 only with a dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner. Do not use this unit near water.

Your ROTEL RB-1592 is configured at the factory for the proper AC line voltage in the country where you purchased it. The AC line configuration is noted on a label on the side panel. The unit must be connected to a polarized 3-pin wall outlet.

Connect the component to the power outlet only with the supplied power supply cable or an exact equivalent. Do not modify the supplied cable or use extension cords.

Be sure the power switch on the front panel is turned off. Then, plug one end of the cord into the AC Power Input connector on the back panel, and the other end into an appropriate AC outlet.

If you will be away from home for an extended period, it is a sensible precaution to unplug your amplifier.

The power switch is located on the left side of the front panel of the ROTEL RB-1592. To turn the amplifier ON, push the switch in. The indicator light around the switch will illuminate. To turn the amplifier OFF, push the button again to return it to the out position.

The ROTEL RB-1592 has a thermal protection circuit that protects the amplifier against potential damage from extreme or faulty operating conditions. It monitors the temperature of the output devices and shuts down the amplifier if temperatures exceed safe limits. The unit also includes overcurrent protection.

Should a faulty condition arise, the amplifier will stop playing and the PROTECTION LED on the front panel will light. If this happens, turn the amplifier off, let it cool down for several minutes, and attempt to identify and correct the problem (e.g., shorted speaker wires, inadequate ventilation). When you turn the amplifier back on, the protection circuit will automatically reset, and the LED should go out.

The ROTEL RB-1592 provides options for manual or automatic power on/off operation using a two-position flip switch on the back panel:

• With the 12V Trigger switch in the OFF position: The amplifier is turned on or off manually using the front panel power switch. This mode is also used if you are using a switched AC outlet to control power.

• With the 12V Trigger switch in the ON position: The amplifier turns on automatically when a 12-volt trigger signal is present at the 12V TRIG input. The amplifier goes into standby mode if the +12 volt signal is not present. The front panel POWER SWITCH must be ON for the +12V trigger to work. Turning the switch OFF cuts power to the amplifier, regardless of whether a trigger signal is present.

The ROTEL RB-1592 has two types of input connections: unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR. To prevent loud noises, ensure the amplifier is turned off when making any signal connections.

1. RCA Inputs (Unbalanced): Use high-quality audio interconnect cables. Connect the left channel output of your preamplifier to the LEFT INPUT on the RB-1592, and the right channel output to the RIGHT INPUT.

2. XLR Inputs (Balanced): These inputs accept audio signals from preamplifiers or surround sound processors with XLR outputs.

3. Input Selector Switch: Use the toggle switch in the middle of the rear panel to select the type of input signal you are using (either BALANCED for XLR or UNBALANCED for RCA).

The nominal impedance of the loudspeaker(s) connected to the ROTEL RB-1592 should be a minimum of 4 ohms. If you are driving multiple pairs of speakers connected in parallel, the effective impedance is cut in half. For example, driving two pairs of 8-ohm speakers results in a 4-ohm load. When driving multiple speakers in parallel, select speakers with a nominal impedance of 8 ohms or higher.

Use insulated two-conductor stranded wire to connect the ROTEL RB-1592 to your speakers. The size and quality of the wire can have an audible effect on performance. While standard speaker wire will work, it can result in lower output or diminished bass response, particularly over longer distances. In general, heavier wire will improve the sound. For best performance, consider special high-quality speaker cables.

The ROTEL RB-1592 has four pairs of color-coded binding posts, two for each channel. These connectors accept bare wire, connector lugs, or dual banana-type connectors (except where prohibited).

First, ensure the polarity (positive/negative orientation) of the connections for every speaker and amplifier connection is consistent so all speakers will be in-phase. If polarity is reversed, bass output will be weak and stereo imaging degraded.

• Using Banana Plugs: Connect the plugs to the wires and then insert them into the backs of the binding posts. The binding posts should be screwed in all the way (clockwise).

• Using Terminal Lugs or Bare Wires: Unscrew (turn counterclockwise) the binding post. Place the connector lug or bare wire around the binding post shaft. Turn the binding post clockwise to clamp the connector lug or wire firmly in place. If using bare wire, strip the insulation from the end of each conductor, being careful not to cut the wire strands.

If the power indicator is not lit, it means there is no main power to the ROTEL RB-1592. Check the AC power connections at the amplifier and the AC outlet. Also, check the front panel power switch to ensure that it is set to the ON position.

If the amplifier is receiving AC power but is not producing sound, first check the PROTECTION INDICATOR on the front panel. If the indicator is lit, refer to the troubleshooting steps for a lit protection indicator. If it is not lit, check all of your connections and control settings on associated components.

The front panel PROTECTION INDICATOR lights when the ROTEL RB-1592 protection circuits have shut off the amplifier. This typically occurs when ventilation openings are blocked, there is faulty speaker wiring, or after a period of extreme use. To resolve this:

1. Turn off the system and wait for the amplifier to cool.

2. Push the front panel power switch in and out to reset the protection devices.

If the problem is not corrected or reoccurs, there is a problem with the system or the amplifier itself.
